What makes a hero? one does not need to have superhuman powers, wear a cape and slay dragons to become a hero. A true hero is someone who is not measured by the size of his strength, a true hero is measured by the strength of his or her heart. Aside from being the Queen of American media, Oprah Gail Winfrey an empathetic and philanthropist individual impacted society by giving those in poverty hope for a better future and giving to those in need throughout her career.
Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Her parents are Vernita Lee, a housemaid and Vernon Winfrey, a coal miner who later became a barber. Her parents separated soon after her birth and Oprah was sent to live at her grandmother 's farm in Kosciusko,
Her father was strict and insisted education. Under her father’s atmosphere, Winfrey became an honors student, voted as “Most Popular” and joined her high school speech team at East Nashville High School, placing second in the nation in dramatic interpretation. At the age of sixteen, Winfrey was hired by the WVOL Radio to read news on the air. Three years later, she became the co-anchoring at the local news. The person would be able to not only detect what others feel, they also experience that emotion themselves. Empathy connects people together, heal broken hearts, and builds trust between individuals.
Moreover, Winfrey’s philanthropic efforts justify her heroic characteristics.
