What is a friends? A friend is someone we turn to when we need our days to be brighter. Someone we treasure day in and day out. A friend is someone, who understands your past, believes in your future and accepts you the way you are. Someone who is with you through the good times and bad times. Everyone has a friend. There are girls that have girls has friends. Even boys who have boys as friend. Sometime you see boys having a girl as friend. There are times when you might see a girl who has a guy as a friend. Which brings us to our next question. Can girls be friend with boys? Just basic friendship; not boyfriend/ girlfriend relationship. When we are children the answer is yes, that is possible. When we become teenager, and even adults does society change their mind about the opposite sex just being friends.
Let’s start by looking at each stage of life. To see how friendship with the opposite sex changes through life. Friendship changes from childhood to teenager to adulthood. Even though the basic meaning of the word friendship stays the same. The way we see the opposite sex through life is what makes us change the point of view about who can be our friend and who can’t be our friend.
Friendship as a child is the simplest type of friendship to look at. Special when it comes to girls being friends with boys. At this moment we see friendship at a preschool level as playmates. Where playing with other person is just for fun. Around the age of five to nine years old; we start to define people as our friends when they are nice to us. When we turn six to twelve years old, then we start being concerned with fairness. Start to care about other people feelings and trying not to leave anyone out of the group. Easier to talk to a male then a female, because males aren’t so sensitive about things. Female think of male friends as a big brother, not as a lifelong partner. Both sex benefits because they are talking one-on-one. Having an inside on how the opposite sex thinks.
With all this in mind we can answer our question. Can girls be friends with both boys? Just a regular friendship between a female and a male. Early time periods will tell you its fine for a child to have the opposite gender as a friend. When it comes to being an adult is another story. They tell you it is not sociable allow to have a male and a female to be friends. Now, today society say different. It is perfectly fine to be friends with the opposite sex. It all depends on how you were raise.
