What Kind of Jewelry did Ancient Roman People Wear?

Jewelry is a wonderful way of displaying our favorite gems. Or perhaps a lovely charm? Or something a special someone gave you? Whichever way, we can admit that it's very special. So it would only figure that the ancient civilization of Rome would decorate their necks, ears, and wrists with elaborate and gorgeous accessories. However, what kind of jewelry did they wear? Who was allowed to wear the shiny charms? What were they made of? What were preferred materials to make them? The ancient civilization of Rome has many secrets that have been uncovered over the years, with many questions answered, along with mine.

Resources for ancient Roman jewelry was usually brought in from the European and Mediterranean continents. Since ancient Rome had a big trade route, they even were able to obtain more materials for their jewelry along from the Silk Road, which ran through East Asia. Pearls that were brought from the Persian Gulf were used as popular gemstones in ancient Roman jewelry. Also, from Egypt, emeralds and peridots were used, as well as carnelian, jasper, lapis lazuli, and onyx from Persia. Gold was a popular material in all forms of ancient roman jewelry. Snake bracelets were a popular form of jewelry to be worn, because snakes were the symbol of fertility and immortality and were intended to warn off evil. These snake bracelets were usually made of gold. There were also torques. Torques were often worn by Roman warriors, priests, and noblewomen. Torques were circular, necklace-type jewelry that was worn tightly around the neck.
