The nervous system is a network of cells that take messages from the brain and spinal cord to other parts of the body. The nervous system is made up of the Central Nervous System and the Peripheral Nervous System. The Central Nervous System has two main parts; the brain and the spinal cord. While the Peripheral Nervous System has the Somatic and the Autonomic Nervous systems included with in it.
The Central NS is broken down by two parts the brain and the spinal cord. The brain is protected by the scull and has a mushroom like shape. The bain has four main parts: the brain stem, cerebrum, cerebellum, and the diencephalon. The brain I the main organ of the Central NS. The average size of a human brain is between 1.3 and 1.4g and weighs about 3lbs. The brain has two types of matter: grey matter and white matter. Grey matter takes the information give and stores it while the white matter is the transporation for the grey matter carring impulses to and from. The White matter consists of nerve fibers called axons. Unlike the CNS, the PNS does not have the protection that the CNS does. The spinal cord is the other main part of the Central NS. The spinal cord is a tube like structure that extends out from the brain. It 's length ranges from around 43cm in women to 45 cm in adult males. It has a total of 31 segments with a pair of nerves coming out from each segment. In the spinal cord is where we get both our motor and sensory nerves from and all this is encompassed in the spinal cord.

The fourth lobe in the cerebrum is the occipital lobe. The optical lobe is located in the cerebral hemisphere of the brain toward the back of the brain. The main function of this lobe is to control all vision.
The cerebrum is known as the large brain and the cerebellum is often called the “little brain”. The cerebellum only makes up a tenth of volumn of the humand brain. This region of the brain controls essential functions like posture, balance, coordination, in other words it controls our movements. If a person damages this region of the brian it typically does not have any affect on intellect of emotion. When this region is damaged it typically there is loss of balance and the patients are not able to stay on their feet. It also affect their ability to lift things and their hands usually shake.
