Pip influenced several characters in Charles Dickens's Great Expectations, when he rose up on the social ladder. When Pip received his fortune, he rose from society’s bottom rung of the ladder to the top rung. Consequently, he changed both physically and mentally, from being an innocent boy to an arrogant man. Also, Pip came to the realization that how he treated the people who cared for him, was absolutely wrong. This had an influence on countless characters and how they felt about Pip, including main characters; Joe, Uncle Pumblechook, and Estella. Joe and Pip are good friends and both had a big impact on each other lives, until the fortune dramastically changed their relationship. (Pg.234) When Pip finds out who his benefactor is and the story behind Estella, he realizes that he should not have treated the people that help him through the tough times, because he needs their help right now. (pg. 288) Then when he is in trouble with debt, Joe is there to cover all of it. Even though Pip treated Joe poorly, Joe still loved Pip and did not want him to get sent to jail. Pip instantly fell in love with Estella, but Miss Havisham had taught Estella to break guys hearts; therefore, she was mean and rude to Pip. She insulted him for being a commoning laboring boy, instead of a prestigious gentlemen. When Pip received the fortune to become a gentleman, he thought Miss Havisham was his benefactor, because she meant for Pip to marry Estella. He tried to get in contact with Estella, but she treated him the same as she had before he was a gentlemen. Pip finds out his true benefactor and that Estella is to marry Drummle. Changing his life completely Pip tries to move on, he starts treating the people better and putting them before himself. When Pip comes home from living in London he goes to Miss Havisham and finds Estella there. They talk about their pasts and how their lives turned out, realizing that now they are to be together.
