People are called in this life to become saints; a saint is a friend of God. Most people think the saintly people as being gifted with some supernature powers that made them intimate friends of God. Many others think of saints as superheroes. The truth is that saints are not extraordinary people but rather ordinary people who had done the extraordinary in their lives.
Saint Joan of Arc was born in the village of Domrémy in northeastern France on January 6, 1412. Both her parents, Jacques and Isabelle d’Arc, are devout peasants who never traveled far from home. Joan heard the Voice which called her to save France. After both Henry V, King of England, and Charles VI, King of France were gone. A bloody war between the English and the French began. The English along with the Burgundians invaded France. Charles VII, the Dauphin, retreated to Chinon. He was eager to go to the Holy land, Reims, to be authoritatively crowned to be the King of France. But in that time, the English took control of Reims. There was no light in this period of French history. The hopeless French were waiting for a miracle to change the fortune of France. Saint Joan happens to be that miracle. She answered the Voice that comes from heaven that announced her to be the heroine of France. According to what she said to the Judges, “The Voice came to her towards noon. It was summer time; Joan was in her father's garden. She heard the Voice on her right. Afterward, she seldom heard it without a light which came from the same side and was usually very brilliant” (p.27, Etienne Robo). After the three times appearance of the Voice, she finally realized the Voice came from the Host of Heaven through Michael the Archangel. The Voice frequently advise her to be a pious and obedient girl, and it usually begins as a small talk about that she must go to France. After two years, the Voice keep telling Joan more often through St Margaret and St Catherine. When she arrived Chinon and was given an audience, she immediately recognized Charles VII, who was hiding among the members in his court. After St. Joan and Charles VII had a private conversation about the details of God’s sacred mission, Charles remained in doubt for a few weeks. To that end, he commands a theologian to examine if Joan is a virgin as she claimed before. According to the Biography.com Editors, “The clergymen reported they found nothing improper with Joan, only piety, chastity, and humility.” Through many hardships and questionings, Joan finally was able to fight for her country. She was set out to Orleans, where was under the hand of the English. In the siege of Orleans, St. Joan demonstrated her personal holiness. “In a series of battles between May 4 and May 7, 1429, the French troops took control of the English fortifications” (Biography.com Editors). It is hard to explain this miracle if there is not a divine thing to perform it. Although Joan was wounded during that battle, she soon came back to join the fight valiantly. Her heroic action encouraged the French soldier. “By mid-June, the French had routed the English and, in doing so, their perceived invincibility as well” (Biography.com Editors). One day, she heard the voices of three saints: Michael Margaret, and Catherine, who told her how to save France. Joan immediately went out and informed the people of France of her mission. However, many people ignored her and her claims. Though, after Joan correctly predicted the outcome of many battles, she was recruited for her “tactical ability,” because they didn’t know that her predictions came from the saints. In April 1429, Joan convinced the dauphin to give her military assistance to attempt to free Orleans from the English. She led the army into the battle wearing a suit of white armor while holding a banner that showed the Trinity and the stated "Jesus, Maria." A saint is a virtuous person that is honored by church after death who is considered to a degree of holiness and is blessed. In most Christian denominations think all people are saints in the Catholic Church the term saint is given to a person whom which the church has officially been canonized. Furthermore, the Catholic Church explains that they do not create or make a saint; however, they recognize saints. In fact, Frances Xavier Cabrini or as many people refer to her as Mother Cabrini is the first person to be canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church.
Jehanne d’Arc or more commonly known as Joan of Arc nicknamed the Maid of Orleans is a brave heroine who is known for her work during the Hundred Years War. With her defeat at her last battle, Joan ends the Hundred Years War and years later gets declared a saint for her bravery and sacrifice. Throughout her life, she struggled with an education and growing up on a farm. Later in those years she beings to hears voices and sees visions believing it to be from the Heavens and joins the French war because of it. Only being a teenager through all this, at the age of 19 she’s gets betrayed by who she thinks is an ally and burnt at the stake for charges.
The break of the siege on Orléans was due largely to Joan’s involvement and it was her first great triumph. The fate of France rested on Orléans, as it was the key to gaining control of the rest of the country. In 1429, the Duke of Bedford, an Englishman, had laid siege to Orléans and was preparing the way to attack the dauphin at Bourges. The scales were about to tip in favor of the English when Joan first entered the records (Clin, 3). Joan said that as a young child she had desired for her king to have his kingdom but she only took up arms to fight once the saints instructed her to do so (Halsall). Many of the French captains were hesitant to follow a peasant and a girl but her plans always seemed to work (Schmalz). This quote is referring to Joan of Arc. Joan of Arc was very religious; known for seeing visions and voices from God telling her to go deep into France and help with the war, which she did. At the age of eighteen Joan of Arc led French armies through a series of battles and each of these battles resulted in a victory. The Hundred Years’ War (1337-1453) consisted of numerous small raids between local armies in which the French suffered many losses. Two of these losses included the battles at Crecy and Poitiers. However, over time, the French rebounded after the victory at the battle in Orleans in 1429, which was led by 17-year old French peasant, Joan of Arc. Before going into battle, Joan sent a letter to the English demanding that they leave France. Joan’s letter to the king of England in 1429 and her role in the battle at Orleans played a symbolic role and affected the French’s success in the Hundred Years’ War by increasing French spirits and showing the weakness of the English.
Contrary to common belief, saints are not perfect. Saints simply seek Christ more than anyone else. Saints understand the need for Christ in their own lives through their own experiences. St. Teresa of Avila did not live a perfect life, although she strived to after her conversion. St. Teresa, after living in the world, realized her desperate need for a personal relationship with God, but by no means was she perfect.

Her voices or revelations become more specific and urgent as more and more towns were conquered by the Burgundians and the English, while Joan become more distant and absent to her family friends to talk with her voices, and soon, it became apparent to Joan that God has given her a mission to save the exiled prince and France, although, with low-confidence with her peasant stature, her voices gave her the confidence and help to pursue the mission. Her father, oblivious to Joan’s revelations, dreams that she’ll join the army, which meant that she’ll be a camp follower, and so, he demanded her brothers to drown her if she did or he’ll do it himself as he and her mother kept a closer eye on her. Despite her parent’s worry and fear, Joan persisted in completing her mission as she made preparations to visit her her first cousin near Vaucouleurs in December to take care of the baby when in actuality, Joan was planning to go to Vaucouleurs, a town loyal to the French, to get help
Joan of Arc was born in a small village that that laid between both occupied French and Burgundians (who were loyal to the English) territories called Domremie in 1412. Her parents were very devoutly religious who were farmers and her father also performed tax collecting and headed the local watch for protection of the village. Joan was very young and started hearing voices calling for her to assist the French army and the Dauphin (the uncrowned king of France), Charles VII. Those voices were said to be of St. Michael, St Catherine, and St. Margaret. In 1428 Joan of Arc traveled to Vaucouleurs and asked for permission to talk with the Dauphin and was turned away. For Protestants a saint is “anyone who believes in Jesus as a savior.” To juxtaposition that definition Catholics defines saints to be “a special group of holy people, who are venerated. They may act as intercessors between God and Man and may be invoked in prayer.” This deference in definition really shows the constancy of Protestants and their beliefs that Jesus and God are the only ones who truly have importance and focus of the religion. They deny the pope, deny the Virgin Mary to being anything holy, and reject the idea of holy saints and their ability to be mediums to connect with

Saint Catherine was born in Siena, Italy on March 25, 1347. She was one of twenty-five children, and she had a twin but she died when she was just an infant. Her father, Giacomo di Benincasa, was a cloth dyer and her mother, Lapa Piagenti, was the daughter of a poet. Catherine grew up being a very happy child. It is reported that when she was around 6, she she had a vision of God. When she was 7, she vowed to give her whole life to God.
