Modernisation, Westernisation and Islam

The core purpose of this research is to look over the issue in three aspects i.e.
• What is Islam’s stance over modernisation?
• What is Islam’s stance over westernisation?
• What is the prime difference between modernisation and westernisation?
I have been compelled to do this research because of several reasons. Firstly, the widely believed phenomenon that muslims are a backward creed and Islam in principle is against development in science and technology. Secondly, because muslims in recent times have not been able to achieve significant milestones in science and technology.
Now, this research aims to bring about all the aspects of this debate as to how far Islam supports modernization. To start with, I’ll start by dividing this debate into the following steps:
• Muslims contribution to science and technology
• Muslims contribution to infrastructure and architecture
• Islamic reforms in society
That being said, I hope that this research will open new horizons of thought for the fellow readers and bring about the hidden aspects. Not only this, but this research will also provide ample arguments to fellow readers that shall help them in any debate whatsoever on the topic and will ensure that no one who has read this article is not able to answer an argument that questions Islamic credibility and its stance over the ever changing world that has now turned into a global village.
I pray that by the grace of Allah(swt) this article doesn’t go in vain and serves its purpose well.

Essay about The Westernization of Middle Eastern Women’s Fashion

- When people think of a Middle Eastern woman, the most common image that comes to mind is a lady wearing a long black dress, known as an ibaya or jilbab, and a hijab. That is, if a niqab isn’t pictured along with it. And although that might have been a pretty accurate depiction a few decades ago, the fact if the matter is: Middle Eastern women’s modern fashion is as westernized as it’s ever been. Although I’m focusing mainly on Islamic dress, a lot of this applies to non-Islamic Arab women as well....   [tags: Clothing, Islam]

Essay on Tension Between the West and Islam

- The tension between the West and Islam has become a hot topic lately but the conflict between the two has always been there, and is illustrate through the works of Al-Farabi, Nilufar Gole, and Sayyid Qutb. Each author has a different perspective on modernization and the west. The significance of these three authors, whose works span over a period of 1,000 years, is that their work reveals the enduringly complex relationship that Islam and the West have had. Even though, Al-Farabi doesn’t specifically address the tension between Islam and the west his theories are compatible with several of their secular ideals; many of which coincide with the Greek philosopher, Plato....   [tags: Islam]

Islam and Gender Equality in Turkey Essay

- Unlike its other Islamic neighbors, Turkey abolished Sharia law and became a secular nation in the 1920s. As a result, women in Turkey had rights and freedoms not enjoyed by women in any other predominantly Islamic country (Arat 870). The first president of the newly transformed country was named Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who wore western-style clothing. Though Turkey was secular, it was not democratic, as one party ruled (Arat 870). By the 1950s things began to change again as Turkey transitioned to a multi-party system and the Islamists began to campaign more loudly and publicly for the right to practice their faith in public (Arat 871)....   [tags: Islam ]

Essay on What Makes Islam, Islam?

- Religion can be viewed from many different perspectives. People throughout the world hold different religious values. One person’s religious value will not match the religious values of another person. Globalization as a whole has affected the way we view the different religions and our feelings towards them; it has moved towards a more symbolic representation of ideologies. Many have come to believe that the west is more superior to others. Martha Crenshaw argues that globalization is a key driver of terrorism because there is a comparison between countries having less access to means of production and others having more access....   [tags: Islam ]

- Women in Islam      Religious institution has a profound impact on any and every society. Social norms, mores, and expectations are mostly defined by our belief systems, even if we ourselves don’t practice a religion.
