Billboards, commercials, ads, and even certain products all serve as scapegoats for one of the world’s top growing occupations, Graphic design. Collectively graphic design is the creation of art, with the goal of making an impact on someone in some way. Whether it’s an ad or purely just art, the goal is to appeal to the senses and emotions. An easier way of saying it is creatively creating ways to obtain others interests. Graphic designers have the responsibility of being creative, trying new things, and thinking outside of the box. Although being completely original isn’t necessary either. One must learn how to ‘steal like an artist’. Perhaps the most daunting part of being a graphic designer is getting in the correct place of mind to envision what your target market, or client wants to see; most of the time they don’t know what they want to see. A designer has to realize, that he or she is not designing for themselves but for the client, it is easy forget which is more important. Graphic design isn’t just an occupation, or a skill. It is an art. And like any other artist, to be successful, doggedness and imagination are the key to success.
In the field of graphic design the evolution of technology has allowed for us to become more productive in the design process of any given project. Many advancements made solely on the computer have improved the speed with which we complete a task. Some of these advancements however may not be as cost effective as previous methods. For example photography. It is a common misconception that digital photography is more cost effective than the previous form, film photography. But once the prices of the cameras are analyzed, as well as a computer, which is needed to develop digital photography, y...

...ible to know what will become trends, and it is the job of a graphic designer to follow those trends, stretch the borders, and break the boundaries, therefore creating new, original pieces of art. This one reiterated detail, stealing like an artist, really is what binds together what it really means to be a professional graphic designer and, to be good at it.
In conclusion the overall need for graphic designers is evident. Graphic designers are used for just about everything. It is inconceivable how much influence people who sit at a desk and design things have on everybody else and their habits. The amount of skill and determination it takes is not unlike any other profession. Graphic designers are just normal people, with extraordinary tasks. The profession of doing what you want for a living, and maintaining a consistent level of happiness is beautiful. Its art.
Though people can look into color and composition, others can still even look into the source of the art itself. Cole goes deeper, delving into the source of the art, looking in particular into the idea of cultural appropriation and the view a person can give others. Though it is good for people to be exposed to different opinions of a group or an object, sometimes people can find it difficult to tell the difference between the reality and the art itself. Sometimes art can be so powerful that its message stays and impacts its audience to the point where the viewer’s image of the subject of the art changes entirely. Cole brings up an important question about art, however. Art has become some kind of media for spreading awareness and even wisdom at times, but in reality, “there is also the question of what the photograph is for, what role it plays within the economic circulation of images” (973). Cole might even be implying that Nussbaum’s advertisement can sometimes be the point of some media, and that sometimes the different genres of art can just be to make someone with a particular interest happy. One more point that Cole makes is that “[a]rt is always difficult, but it is especially difficult when it comes to telling other people’s stories.” (974) Truthfully, awareness and other like-concepts are difficult to keep going when a person or a group is not directly involved.
It’s often unacknowledged that there are designers that are behind creating and drawing out the designs we see on our everyday products, whether it be toilet paper, bleach, or a can of soup. There are people behind creating the enticing labels that urge us to crave and need that product. Andy Warhol shined a light on a whole world of unrecognised artists,
The creation of a graphic should be simple enough to always recognize but also impactful enough that it is memorable and synonymous with the identity or brand it is created for. This also comes into play with the idea that as an artist your goal, “is about getting people to engage their environment” whether it is through sonically making them experience something or viewing something which can change their entire viewpoint. Within Shepard Fairey’s manifesto, he touches upon two key elements that should be looked upon within all pieces of art that you interact with, these being the phenomenology and the human nature to follow trends and the “CONSPICUOUSLY CONSUMPTIVE nature of many members
Technology and social change have long been vital in the evolution of graphic design and its importance in the society. In particular was the Industrial Revolution between 1760 and 1840, which brought about the transformation from agrarian to industrialized societies across Europe and America. Mass production was made possible by new technologies; availability and variety of goods increased and cost of manufacturing decreased, accompanied by the higher standard of living for many people. A consequence of mass production on graphic design was that it led to the demise of the unity between design and production. Craftsmen were replaced by modern technologies, sacrificing artistry for speed and cheaper production.
As a graphic designer, I always strive to make all the elements included in my work flow together in a way that doesn't over complicate whatever message I want to convey. My goal is to take my interests—and sometimes, my experiences, and to give them purpose in my art. I want my audience to feel something from my efforts, even if they don't completely understand what it is I am going for.
Many do not consider where images they see daily come from. A person can see thousands of different designs in their daily lives; these designs vary on where they are placed. A design on a shirt, an image on a billboard, or even the cover of a magazine all share something in common with one another. These items all had once been on the computer screen or on a piece of paper, designed by an artist known as a graphic designer. Graphic design is a steadily growing occupation in this day as the media has a need for original and creative designs on things like packaging or the covers of magazines. This occupation has grown over the years but still shares the basic components it once started with. Despite these tremendous amounts of growth,

Graphic design is a type of art that has been around almost since the beginning of time. Its main purpose has always been to communicate something to the viewer, and this communication is being done through visuals and in some cases typography as well. An era of graphic design that revolutionized design into what we now know it as today is the Swiss design era. Specifically, work done by Armin Hofmann. His work is what kick started modern graphic design. His designs have a clean, minimal feel, which is popular even in today’s graphic design. Hofmann as well as other Swiss graphic designers in the modern art movement really set the bar for designers who came after them. The post-modern
Digital art has a fifty-year history of innovation and experimentation with new technology. The Pioneers of digital art were not artists but people who were exploring new visions through computers and the writing of computer programs. According to the Digital Art Museum, which is a joint venture between London Guildhall University and two independent art galleries, digital art can currently be classified according to three phases Phase I of digital art was from 1956-1986. The Paintbox Era, the second phase, lasted from 1986-1996. Art software became readily available and attracted more artists to the new media. Especially useful was the paint program and devices such as the scanner and film recorder. Phase III, 1996-2006, is called the Multimedia Era because of the increase in technology and Internet access allowing the digital media artist interactivity with many art forms. The widespread availability of computers and software has allowed the digital artist to create distinctive works of art. Digital art is able to combine and transform more traditional types of art such as painting, sculpture, photography, animation and filmmaking. Digital technology allows the artist to create and manipulate color, images, and texture, instantly. Images can be made to appear, disappear and even combine or morph.

There are many ways it is used to either pursue or detach itself from a political agenda. Many take more on an illustrative role when it comes to expressing how they feel about a certain topic, however it is very common for existing pieces to be used and manipulated to influencing the public to believe in the politicians
Computer Graphics is the bond between humans and computers. Computer graphics is a large field that branches into almost all fields of computer science; however its roots are young. Computer graphics has massively grown over the past 40 years and is now our primary means of communication with computer applications. Do to technological limitations in the 1950s, computer graphics began as a small, specialized field. The Whirlwind project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is marked as the origin of computer graphics (Machover 14).
During my whole life and experience I have been interested in the Art, Creativity, and I have been traveling around Graphics Designing. When I go out to centres, supermarkets, the high streets around Kingston anywhere in London, Germany and other parts of Europe which I have seen. I have seen lots of Graphics designs in advertising, Billboards companies for example in electronical products or any type of product the graphics advertising companies running around the world, just because of that I was inspired in the graphics designing and I was influence by the subject.
‘You cannot hold a design in your hand. It is not a thing. It is a process. A system. A way of thinking.’ Bob Gill, Graphic Design as a Second Language.
In the art community there is a lot of controversy in distinguishing what the difference between an artist and a designer. Designers are told they are not artist and they need to stop thinking they are artist. When dealing with art and design specific demographics and viewers interpret the messages of each subject in different ways. Art is said to be elucidated and design is said to be understood. Artists usually develop a work of art with the intention of bringing an emotion viewpoint, instinctive feeling, and or state of mind. When you look at an artist work it cannot be limited to just exhibiting one individual thought or just one individual meaning. That is a big difference when it comes to graphic design. Graphic design usually has a very specific goal and point to make. When dealing with graphic design there should not be any room or space for any mixed messages or multiple meanings. The audience of the design should immediately understand the design that the designer created. Art connects to people differently in so many ways. The only reason it connects to people in different ways is only because it is interpreted differently.
