The truth is you don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. Life is a crazy ride, and nothing is guaranteed. The film An Inconvenient Truth shows us what will happen in the future if we continue to produce waste and pollution. We are the cause of global warming. Global warming turns the earth into an oven. Each year the overall temperature raise, causing more natural disaster and dry lands. If we let this continues, we might even end up in the same wasteland shown in the film Wall-E.
Global warming happens when the greenhouse gases keeps the radiation that comes from the sun back to the planet, causing temperature to rise. Where did the greenhouse gases come from? It comes from the pollution and carbon dioxide that we produced. For example, when we are driving to work, the amount of pollution coming from our car is massive, especially when there are millions of us. The amount of carbon dioxide we produce each day is more than the amount of the oxygen that the plants can produce.
Another problem is that we are going through an overpopulated phase; there are 7 billions of us living in this planet. In 1959 we’ve reach 3 billion population, and in 2011 we’ve reach 7 billion. So in 50 years, we’ve gained 4 billion populations. The more people there are, the more energy and resources consumption is needed. If the populations continue to grow unstoppably, we will run out of resources and forced to look for an alternative way to live.
Global warming also affects plantation growth and weathers; Global warming is the causes of the moisture getting suck out from the soil, it is hard to grow plants on dry lands. Some people thought green building is sustainable, but the truth is that not all green buildings are sustainable. They might be labeled as green building, but they are not as green as they look. Some people think being sustainable is being green, and many of us just ended up mixing those two together, even the people in the construction industry are confused sometimes. If we gain the knowledge of what is truly green and sustainable, we will have a better vision on what’s going to happen as we plan for the future, and our next generation.
In the past 50 years, life expectancy has increased tenfold. Technology has allowed people to live longer, stay healthier, and be able to reproduce; we are looking towards and currently in and overpopulation. Also, the standards of living in third world countries are increasing. People are becoming wealthier and having much more children. By 2050, at the rate at which we are growing, there will be approximately 10 billion people living on earth. Also at the rate of resource consumption, there will not be enough food for everyone. With fresh water already being scarce, there would be a shortage. Most bodies of water will be polluted and certain countries will become dictators. The crucial question is whether we should pour all our resources into mitigation – reducing our carbon emissions. According to scientists who study the climate there are other environmental problems; “we now face a global crises in land use and agriculture that could undermine the health, security, and sustainability of our civilization”.
Think about a time when your car was parked on the side of the street all day long. Then you decide to run to the store and get some things for dinner. The minute you opened the car door, you feel the currents of hot air blowing past you, and when you sit down, you feel as if your car is radiating heat! This is a tiny, yet real example of the process called the greenhouse effect. This effect includes a form of matter, absorbing heat or radiation from the sun. What happened in the car was the glass assists the absorption of the heat and trapped the heat inside, containing it. Equally, the earth's atmosphere contains gases called greenhouse gases such as Carbon Dioxide, Methane, and water vapor, which absorbs the rays we receive from the sun, and trap the heat inside. Our atmosphere, which contains the greenhouse gases acts like a blanket; absorbing the heat from the sun, and preventing it from going away from the earth's surface. The more the heat gets trapped because of the increase in greenhouse gases, the more the temperature rises, causing global warming. Global warming is “an increase in the earth's atmospheric and oceanic temperatures widely predicted to occur due to an increase in the greenhouse effect resulting especially from pollution,” (Merriam Webster Dictionary). The two main causes of global warming are the greenhouse effect and solar variations. The Greenhouse Effect “refers to the process by which absorption and emission of infrared radiation atmosphere gases (mainly Greenhouse gases such as CO, NO, and Carbon Monoxide) warms the Earth’s atmosphere and surface,” (Merriam Webster Dictionary).Solar Variations are “changes in the amount of radiant energy emitted by the Sun,” (Wikipedia).
Firstly, global warming is said to be caused by the high levels of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere by humans. Smoke produced by factories, vehicular exhaust, and the burning of fossil fuels such as coal in power plants are the primary sources of carbon dioxide. The theory is that carbon dioxide being released into the Earth's atmosphere is steadily building up because it cannot escape into space. The theory as to why the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere actually causes the Earth's average temperature to rise is outlined as follows:
Global warming is a major concern among the study of biology. Global warming will lead to drastic changes to Earth. There are so many problems that global warming affects, but the one thing that may be overlooked at times is how global warming will affect local farms leading to a decrease in food supply. Global warming and the greenhouse effect are issues discussed by scientists all the time. A natural process that keeps earths temperature at a livable rate is called the greenhouse effect. The energy from the sun warms up the earth when the rays from the sun are absorbed by greenhouse gasses. The gasses then become trapped in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane and nitrous oxide are the most common greenhouse gasses. Greenhouse gases cause the radiant heat of the sun to be trapped in the Earths lower atmosphere which causes global warming. If there weren’t any greenhouse gasses, the earth would be really cold due to very little sun rays being absorbed on the earth. Global warming can and will lead to several problems that affect the environment in which we humans live in. These problems can lead to warmer temperatures all around the world, it can endanger animals and the wildlife, and it can lead to widespread flooding from the glaciers melting. Here are a few more future effects that I will discuss in more detail about. Damage to human health, Severe stress on forests, wetlands, and other natural habitats, how fish will be affected. Global warming is a serious problem that will affect our generation when we are older.
Of all the effects of global warming, the extreme weather that is taking place all over the world is the most obvious one. Global warming will bring more heat waves, drought, fiercer wildfires and stronger hurricanes. “This intensification of weather and climate extremes will be the most visible impact of global warming in our everyday lives” (75 yrs NWF). Due to rising temperatures, places everywhere will be affected as we get more extremely hot summer days and lesser winters. In addition, as these rising temperatures shifts the cycle of rain and increases evaporation, there will be longer and drier droughts which in turn can lower the water supply for life everywhere. Wildfires can turn out to be even more catastrophic due to warmer temperatures and drier areas combined with accumulated levels of fuel loads in the forest which has built up as a result of decades of fire suppression activities. Moreover, stronger hurricanes are also an effect of global warming as sea levels are rising and heavier rains are falling near the coasts. Overall, global warming is bringing climates that are changing real fast.

Climate changes occur in our earth's atmosphere due to a buildup of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases can occur naturally as well as a result of human activities. The greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. “Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere when solid waste, fossil fuels, and wood are burned.” (2) The gases help to warm the surface of the Earth. Each greenhouse gas absorbs heat differently. If natural gases did not occur, the temperature of the earth would be considerably cooler. “Problems can occur when higher concentrations of greenhouse gases are present in our atmosphere because they have enhanced our earth's heat trapping capability.” (3)
