Recommended: characteristics of what a hero is
A hero is characterized as any person who is admired for their courage or achievements, thus serving as a model. Some other characteristics associated with a hero are bravery and daring. It is the manner of facing and dealing with anything that is recognized as dangerous, difficult, or painful that further defines a hero. A primary example of a hero is the courageous men and women, many of whom are employed in a regular non-military job and have spouses and children at home, who are sacrificing their lives while fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. These soldiers are very brave despite the grave circumstances while performing their military service duty. For example, Senator John McCain comes to mind when thinking about …show more content…
He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January of 2008 and continued acting until 2009, when he became too ill. While working on “The Beast”, “Swayze opted not to use painkilling drugs because they would have taken the edge off his performance”. Patrick Swayze was a hero in the 1987 film, Dirty Dancing. Patrick insisted on always doing his own stunts, and this same courage was waged in his battle with cancer. As a further explanation, a hero is not any person, but rather a person who is admired for their courage or for the things that they have achieved. Also, a hero is not an animal, as so many people like to think, because they lack heroic attributes. In essence, the soldiers, Senator John McCain, and Ted Kennedy all exhibit heroism because they boldly faced danger and pain, and are honored for their courage and achievements. Other heroic attributes are daring and fearlessness depicted by the pilots who crash-landed their plane, the Captain Richard Phillips hostage incident, and Patrick Swayze’s war with cancer. Thus, a hero is any person who has the quality of being courageous, brave, or fearless. Works Cited Anonymous, “Patrick Swayze dies of pancreatic cancer”, 15 Sep.
According to google.com a hero is someone who “is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievments, or noble equalities.” (google.com). For example, superman , superman is an all time american classic modern hero who is admired for his courage and for saving earth multiple times from super villains. Another example of a hero is Beowulf. Beowulf was created around 1000 AD and was known far and wide throughout the lands for his selflessness, bravery, and courage .
A hero is somebody who commits an act of remarkably bravery or who has shown an admirable quality such as great courage or strength of character. (Encarta, 2009) Joseph Campbell has come up with eight of his own characteristics of a hero. Joseph Campbell is known as a scholar of mythology. There are several people in our times that are considered a hero. Whether, these heroes are fictional or nonfiction, they all portray some kind of heroic abilities.
A hero is a man of courage and ability who is admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. A hero is a person who does not come along very often in any time period. He is a special person, who is a step above the average person in the way that he handles any situation that may arise.
What do you think a hero is? A hero is someone who helps people. The main trait of a hero would be brave. Some examples of a hero would be in the S.E. Hinton book The Outsiders. By the end of the book Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally are heroes because of their bravery.
The Hero is one of the most common archetypes. Heroes are great people that do good deeds for the sake of everyone rather than personal gain. As a hero you are someone that people revere and respect. There are a few requirements for a character or a person to be considered a hero. These requirements are:
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary a hero is an individual who is admired for great bravery or fine qualities. To me a hero is so much more than a person who shows great bravery. When I think of a hero many fine qualities come to mind; intelligence, courage, altruism, compassion and great bravery.
Generally when you think of a hero, who do you envision? Most likely, you picture a strong and imposeing figure, someone capable of performing in high pressure situations, demonstrating bravery and passion to help his/her fellow man. Those who typically fit that role in society are firefighters, policemen, and soldiers. Those people deserve all the credit and recognition they receive for their courageous acts. However, what about individuals or groups who aren’t necessarily on the “frontlines” physically protecting others and saving lives, but who work extremely hard to improve the lives of others in some way? These everyday people deserve credit as well. After all, to the people they help, these volunteers or activists are heroes. An example of such a group is the Greensboro Four, a few African American college students in the early 1960s who helped change the landscape of segregation in the Jim Crow South.
A hero is defined as "someone admired for his bravery, great deeds or noble qualities". There are three categories to which all heroes can be classified into, one of which is the anti-hero genre.
Webster’s dictionary defines a hero as any man admired for his courage, qualities or exploits, especially in war. Some people attribute the term hero mostly to war. My personal definition of a hero is someone who takes a stand against evil or an unjust cause. The term hero can be applied to anyone, it isn’t necessary to save the world from explosion to be a hero. The act of standing up for a friend can also be called a heroic act.
Being a hero requires an individual to possess bravery, kindness, and selflessness. These characteristics are noble qualities people admire. Heros achieve incredible tasks that other people cannot imagine. Hero is a word to describe person who is determined, selfless, and courageous, and this word can also be used to describe Malala Yousafzai.
A hero could be anyone. A hero could be an ordinary person who has impacted someone or has inspired a change toward greatness in their life. A hero can be passive or active, famous or ordinary, rich or poor. What gives a hero a distinct similarities to other heroes and distinguish them from non heroes is their ability to influence others that they are extraordinary because of their means to overcome obstacles, defeated adversities, and still manage to be a leader, role model, or an admirable person within society.
There are many types of heroes (such as the ones in comic books, myths, movies, or even just everyday life heroes) but all of them have perseverance when they’re going through a conflict. Heroes are role models and they’re people that we look up too. They all have unique and special qualities that make one another different from each other. For example policemen battle crime everyday and when they’re overcoming a conflict they have determination, courage and other traits that people admire them for and that make them as a hero. Typically a hero is admired for their achievement/actions and qualities.
In today's modern times we hear the word hero all of the time. The news media throws the term around as if it is an everyday word. What exactly is a hero? Who, or what, can be classified as heroic? The correct definition of the word hero is: One invested with heroic qualities in the opinions of others. That is a fine definition for books and intellectual minds. To the average person, however, a hero is much more.
You also don’t have to kill anyone, conquer foreign land, or risk your life to be a hero. Anyone who influences anyone else by saving or helping save his or her lives is a hero. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to minorities. Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest heroes, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country.
...America and Franz Stigler of Germany show that it does not matter if you are fighting for different countries but to fight with a code of honor and respect. Stigler showed signs of respect and humanity when he spared Charlie Brown and his crews life on December 20th, 1943. And Nick Scott sends a message to the world as he turned his life around and became a wheelchair body builder after becoming a paraplegic in a horrific car wreck. He helped show that it does not matter if you are disabled, you should never give up and always have a positive mindset. I believe heroes do exist in the 21st century and we will only hear more heroic stories throughout our lifetime. “Heroism should exist as an attitude, not as a person.” (Text 1 Lance Armstrong Syndrome: Do Heroes Exist?) We all have the opportunity to be a hero; it is whether or not you are brave enough to show it.
