Personal Reflection In Education

Introduction Culture is defined as a characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts (“Culture,” n.d.). As I ponder the culture question as to whom I am, I realize I have a hard time explaining who I am. My religion is that I am a Methodist. I am quite shy when it comes to outings and friends. I have been told by the few friends I do have that I am a collector of strange and unusual facts. I like to stay to myself that way I cannot get hurt by others. As for food, I enjoy a variety of foods. I have taught myself how to cook through google and I have mastered Korean cuisine as well as several other ethnicity foods dishes. I primarily speak English, but I can speak in French, Spanish, and Korean. I enjoy music and I listen to anything from classical music to 60’s music. I enjoy art as I have visited France to be able to enjoy authentic master pieces. As I grew up and entered high school, I won a bid for a spot on our schools color guard team. All in all, I am a mother, a wife, a teacher, and a student. I make time for everyone and everything I enjoy in life and I have learned to not waste a second on anything else. The first goal of a multicultural program is to assist children with recognizing differences, as well as similarities, among all people. Allowing children to explore varying cultures creates opportunities for them to see that even when people have different customs and traditions, they often share some common traits, too.
