Throughout this semester, I have seen improvement in my writing. Coming into this class, I was not confident in my writing and was hard on myself. Furthermore, I felt like my writing was basic and didn’t grab the reader’s attention. Despite me being unsure about my writing, I have strengths in choosing good quotes that support my topic. I have improved and learned that it is important to stay on topic and have proper citations. To my surprise, I have learned skills in English 1157 that will help me continue to improve my writing.

Reliable sources in an essay support the topic. In my persuasive essay, I used reliable sources such as the Washington Post and Forbes, and they have helped me strengthen my viewpoint. An essay topic can be something as crazy as why Americans should not celebrate Thanksgiving, but with great sources that support the writer 's point of view, a reader can be persuaded. At first in my persuasive essay I realized that you should not overuse one source because it looks as if your topic is not valid. I later used multiple sources in my final draft to show my professor that there are many sources to support my opinion. However, I have seen development in my writing that will help me continue to grow as a writer. In my first essay, “How to Get Away With Murder,” my professor left the comment “I really want to see what you like about the show. You tend to keep those positive statements to one sentence. We need to work on developing examples.” I can tell by my professors comment on my third essay, “The Dark Side Of Hollywood,” my writing has progressed because he said, “… this essay is very strong. It is supported nicely well researched and powerfully agreed.” In the beginning of this semester I regretted not dropping this class, however, I am glad I didn’t because I obtained essential skills that will help my writing
