#5 Respect
What does it mean to respect another person? Often, we show respect, and sometimes lack of respect, for authority figures, athletes, famous figures, and military personnel. As humans, we show respect for these people that we have never met and our only knowledge of them is what we read in the media or see on tv. How is it so easy to respect them, but not those around us? During high school, I became involved with a young man who was constantly being rude to our teachers, strangers in public, my parents, and even me. I was blind to how distasteful his behavior was because he hid behind a pretty smile and sweet talking. Ignoring constant warnings from friends and family, I continued to take his side. His disrespect soon became violent, but I just saw it as my fault over and over. Not until, my family finally confronted me about it did I realize how disrespectful he was as a person. “The specific traits that seem to make a relationship partner worthy of respect include commendable moral qualities, consideration for others, acceptance of others, honesty, and willingness to listen to others.” (Miller 214) Respect for not only a significant other, but those around you, is a huge key to a successful relationship.
#4 Communication
I HATE talking about my feelings and emotions because it makes me feel vulnerable and weak. I worked my entire life to build up a strong, independent image, and I do not want others to see me different than that. Well that’s how I felt until my latest relationship. My last boyfriend forced me to tell him how I was feeling, when I was upset, or just anything that was bugging me, and after a while it became second nature. I learned the power of strong communication and saw how the lack t...

..., like a friend, be someone we “seek” and happily volunteer our time to their presence. I have witnessed a number of relationships fail due to not developing these factors; the couples often rushed into a romantic relationship without a true understanding of the other person or did not know how to maintain the relationship once the heat and “honeymoon” phase died down. Within my latest relationship, which lasted eight months, I pursued a friendship with him before anything physical or romantic. We learned how the other person behaves and reacts to situations and also learned about each other. Our purely friendship lasted for three months before intentions of pursuing an intimate relationship were made. Though it ended, this relationship brought me happiness, taught me a lot about myself and who I am in relationships, and I gained one of my best friends from it.

Movie Analysis : Mean Girls Essay examples

- The movie Mean Girls is about a bunch of high school girls who are only looking out for their best interest and bringing down other girls around them. This may just be a movie, but this movie is also a great representation of typical high school girls. High school years for girls are very awkward. All that most girls want to do is to fit in. This is not the case for all girls, but it is seen a lot in high school where girls will do just about anything to get peoples attention. They will dress differently, the act differently, they will go against their own morals, and they will backstab their friends....   [tags: High school, Mean Girls, At Seventeen, Tina Fey]

Essay about Movie Analysis : Mean Girls

- Movie Analysis: Mean Girls The movie that I chose to do my analysis on, is Mean Girls because it is my all-time favorite movie. I watched it a million times, it never gets old and plus I know every single line in the movie. The main character Cady, played by Lindsay Lohan, exhibits how to go from being a nerd, popular, hated and rehabilitated all in one school year. It’s hilarious movie about high school but, it also covers many interpersonal concepts that we learned in class like: verbal communication, conflict and relationship dynamics....   [tags: Mean Girls, Lindsay Lohan, Tina Fey]

Body Image, Peer Pressure, and Identity in Mean Girls Essay examples

- It has not been too long ago that I still remember my adolescent years. I always remember the unintelligent things I did that I wish could change, but this Psychology class made me realize that all adolescents go through the same things I experienced. Adolescents are known to try to find their identity, go through peer pressure, make mistakes, and try new things. The move I picked that closely represented what adolescents go through was “Mean Girls”. Some of the scenes in the movie seem a little exaggerated, but it has happened in certain high schools even though I had not experienced it personally....   [tags: Mean Girls Essays]

Analysis Essay On Rousseau And Mean Girls

- Benjamin Taft Political Science 221 11/29/2017 Essay on Rousseau and Mean Girls In the Discourse on the Origin of Inequality, Rousseau demonstrates that in the state of nature, man was free and equal. According to Rousseau, man’s problems started from the evil in the society that has caused inequality. During the state of nature, man was similar to an animal with no knowledge of material things, status, and money. In part two, Rousseau states, “Man’s first sentiment was that of his own existence; his first concern was that of his preservation ....   [tags: Mean Girls, Mark Waters, Political philosophy]

Names and Titles in Gloria Naylor's novel, Mommy, What Does Nigger Mean

- Names and Titles in Gloria Naylor's novel, Mommy, What Does Nigger Mean   "Words themselves are innocuous; it is the consensus that gives them true power." (Naylor 344) A name is a mark of classification, a basis for self identity. Able to elevate or annihilate a persons' perception of herself and the surrounding society, these designations can uplift, joke, chide, mock, insult, degrade. "Society" implies the people and the atmosphere encompassing an individual in her daily life. "Culture" is closely tied to the society of a person--it is the aspects of her life which are directly influenced by such issues as race, color, nationality, religion, sexuality, and any other number of...   [tags: Mommy What Does Nigger Mean Essays]

Essay about The Doctrine Of The Mean

- The Doctrine of The Mean is the Aristotelian writing of virtues, of Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics. Aristotle explains virtue as the excellence and the good of the character, in reflection to the good or the virtues of an action: “So virtue is a purposive disposition, lying in a mean that is relative to us and determined by a rational principle, and by that which a prudent man would use to determine it. It is a mean between two kinds of vice, one of excess and the other of deficiency…” Here Aristotle gives us an outline of his provisional explanation for virtue; where you would find virtue, and its dependency on the situation....   [tags: Ethics, Morality, Virtue, Justice]

Aristotle 's Doctrine Of The Mean Essay

- Aristotle’s “doctrine of the mean,” I believe, may shed some light on the nature of moral virtues (virtues of character). The doctrine of the mean can tell us some things about moral virtues, but I would also that the doctrine of the mean ultimately creates a rather unhelpful and overly simplistic concept of morality. More than anything, I think the doctrine of the mean tells us more about Aristotle than the nature of moral virtues. First, we should define the terms we are discussing. When Aristotle talked about “moral virtue,” he considered it a state of character— character as opposed to “virtues of intellect” (which Aristotle also talked about)....   [tags: Ethics, Virtue, Courage, Virtue ethics]

Essay about Mean Green

- Mean Green With the development of societies and the historical events that shape those societies it is verifiably true that the ideas of the ruling class result in what the rest of the world perceives as reality. The economic establishment of capitalism as a means of production is a key determinant of this perceived reality. The exploitation and struggle brought on by the ruling class towards the working class of a nation state are eminent outcomes of the dehumanization over the oppressed class....   [tags: Economics]

Essay about Aristotle's Doctrine of the Mean

- Aristotle's Doctrine of the Mean When we consider the questions of how we ought to live our lives, we often seek for some schematic that we can employ to help us categorize actions or qualities as good, bad, or indifferent. Such a means of organization would indeed make it easier to determine what the right thing to do is. Aristotle once attempted to formulate a similar plan. His ethics used a scheme by which characteristics could be measured and the right amount attained. Such an account is known as the doctrine of the mean....   [tags: Philosophy Essays]
