This essay involves a very personal subject in my life and in the life of someone I hold very near and dear to my heart. A few years ago one of my closest friends whom I had known for most of my life told me under a cloud of tears, embarrassment, fear, and hope that she thought she had bulimia. I was the only one she had the courage to tell, and she felt that she had to tell someone because she had lost all control over her own actions, feelings, and thoughts. She felt that she couldn’t stop even if she wanted to.
She never thought that she actually had a problem, but one day she was at the library and she sat down at a desk that had a few books on bulimia there. She started to look through the books and found a quiz to determine if you had bulimia. She was bored and she took the quiz expecting that it would say she didn’t have bulimia, but after she finished taking the quiz she had answered yes to every question except the very first one. Her entire world came crashing down around her, and with each word that she read she became even more panicky and scared.
Eventually she came to me, hoping that I could somehow help her and give her the support she needed. I did everything I could to help her. It took up a lot of my time and there were many sleepless nights that I had to go through helping her calm down from her anxiety attacks and uncontrollable urges, but it was all worth it and I would have done more if I could. I believe she has made a tremendous amount of progress and will one day make a full recovery. Bulimia is a very debilitating disease both mentally and physically and people should be aware of its existence because one day one of your close friends may come up to you with something im...

... condition such as bulimia is difficult and often frustrating. The best piece of advice that I ever offered my friend was the idea that there is always hope. No matter who you are or what your problems may be, there is always hope. Every person in the world has a close group of friends or family that loves them. There is always hope, but the only problem is that you have to have the strength to believe in yourself and open up your eyes and see what a wonderful life you really have. No one should take anything in their life for granted because life is always unpredictable and it could always get worse. I will never forget the lessons I have learned in life and I hope that everyone will work to do the same. .

Roxane Gay wrote, “We Lie the Most to Ourselves” and she is explaining on two different perspective stories. One is her cherry brown butter bars where she explains every detail and time it takes to make her bars and secondly she is talking about her life and how she overcomes her fear of being bulimic. We might think that she is telling the truth because they was she made us think that she is baking her cheer bars or a lying to herself because making herself miserable won’t overcome whom she has turned into. Its never good to keep it to yourself because you are hurting yourself more than what you believed. Roxane Gay is telling us that bulimia isn’t a good idea after all, because it hurts you, and will hurt her and yourself doing what she did.

Different forms of treatment are available such as in patient treatments, cell phone apps and therapy to teach how to overcome an eating disorder. Each eating disorder, anorexia nervous, binge eating disorder and bulimia nervosa may respond better to different forms of treatment and each patient is different in what will work best for them to overcome. Support from family and friends is necessary in working with treatment and being strong enough to face an eating disorder once treatment is done. Eating disorders are easy to gain, but with the right treatment can be defeated.
...ual activity, there are teens who are easily “seduced and model their developing sexual lives on the frequently unhealthy sexual media content they consume” (Brown, Steele, and Walsh-Childers 18). Teenagers look up to the people in the media as role models, and if their role models are going around as if sex was an everyday thing, they will think sex is something they should partake in. If “16 percent of female and 12 percent of male [teens] had sex four or more times in the past month” (Abma 1), what can be expected in the next month as high school teens use more and more media and the media continues to be sexual? The fact of the matter is that “teens with the highest level of sexual content exposure are 2.2 times more likely to have initiated sexual intercourse” (Lagorio) than other high school adolescents with little to no exposure to the sexual media content.
Early exposure of pornography to the children leads to premature conversations. These conversations consisting not only the act of sex itself, but also the consequences of it. Children who witness pornography’s “hatred of women” (69) and its determination to “humiliate, degrade and dehumanize the female body for the purpose of erotic stimulation and pleasure,” (69) view this as normal and acceptable behavior, according to Brownmiller. Another large issue that comes with this early exposure is act of pre experimenting. When young children are exposed to these pornographic acts their minds begin to get curious. They want to experience things that children should not yet experience and Brownmiller argues that by “puting pornography back in the closet we can avoid these major
Marya Hornbacher was born on April 4th, 1974, her parents were well-known actors and directors in Walnut Creek, California. She led a chaotic childhood, consisting of a major move to Minnesota, an anxiety disorder, and most of all, perfectionism everywhere she turned, “I always felt there was an expectation that I would do one of two things: be great at something, or go crazy and become a total failure. There is no middle ground where I come from,” (Hornbacher, 281). Marya developed bulimia when she was nine years old, and when she moved away to attending boarding school at fifteen, she became anorexic. Her parents saw it as a phase and Marya did not go into treatment for another seven years, since then, she has had several relapses. Marya wrote her ...

Today’s media is a significantly prominent source of our delivery of information, and by most individuals their views of particular subjects are influenced by the media. It is through the media that we learn most of what we know about or believe in regards to politics and world and local affairs. It is a common and significant aspect in our lives, with many forms of media from which the public form their views. In particular, adolescent exposure to sexual content through television and other such electronic media forms is of growing concern, where its potential effects on their sexual attitudes and beliefs may be harmful. Sexual content can affect any demographic, however adolescents are most vulnerable. The group may be

Pornography is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as printed or visual material containing sexual subjects or activity. Conversation about pornography use is often seen as taboo in today’s society, even though research has shown that “approximately 13% of the US population regularly views Internet pornography” (Twohig, Crosby & Cox 253). Many researchers in the past have focused on the amount and type of people that use pornography, and how often they view it. However, in my research, I wanted to examine something even more intriguing. I examined how pornography, whether viewed or not, influences individuals and their relationships (not only intimate relationships), as well as how it affects society as a whole. I conducted interviews and researched information from previous studies regarding how individuals are affected by pornography (a positive or negative effect). I asked the interviewees their opinion on the effects that pornography has. I found common themes throughout my research that suggest that pornography has an overall negative influence on individuals, and society.
Purpose: The purpose of this speech is to inform my audience about the eating disorder anorexia nervosa.
A year passed and I continued a bulimic life. I had lost 45lbs and I was satisfied with my outcome but within me I felt a empty. “Girl, give me your secret. What are you doing to lose weight?” or “Samantha, you’re look good.” Were comments I started facing and it thrilled me but for some reason I didn’t find comfort in their words. I didn’t feel beautiful, I still felt gargantuan. I pushed away my loved ones and stared becoming a lifeless, lying soul walking around without a
Pornography, as a growing industry in the 21st century, has a negative impact on youth’s perception of the formation of self-respecting, generous, sexual and romantic relationships. A central developmental task for youth and young adults is learning to establish romantic and sexual relationships. However, access to explicit sexual content may compromise one’s ability to establish and maintain healthy intimate relationships. The exposure of youth, defined as those between the ages of thirteen to seventeen, to pornographic images is detrimental to the normal social, emotional, and moral development of those individuals. This is because the false depictions
