Are you curious why every time you browse the internet there are advertisements similar to what you searched for on the internet for the past days or even the past weeks? Are you amazed how Spotify would have suggested playlist for you that are similar to what genre of songs you listen to? Ever wonder why every time you go to online stores like Amazon, there are recommended items for you? All of these things are possible with the help of technology, especially web analytics. These sites and applications use web analytics to analyze their users or customers. They gather information from the internet and tailor it to suit the users’ need. It is also a form of marketing to increase the company’s sales by providing items that might interest the consumers.
Beasley (2013) defined web analytics as a way of understanding how internet users interact with websites and mobile applications by collecting users’ behavior and transforming it into a data that can be analyzed. It is also a process of electronically gathering and collecting statistics about website use such as who the users are, where are they located, how they use the site (Marek, 2011), how long the user spends on a specific web site, what are the pages they visited, and what pages or links they click on. The data gathered can help web analysts know what the most popular pages are, what information the users are interested in on the site and what path do the visitors use as they go to and from the web site (Web Analytics, 2011).

Thanks to web analytics and the free web analytical software available online, many businesses are able to understand the behavior and the needs of their customers and increase the sales of the products. As for the organizations that are using web sites to disseminate information, they are able to give a user friendly web site that suits the web page user.
