Without firm education guidelines in place, parents of school age children who were not well educated themselves, may find it easy to fall into the lackadaisical pattern of slacking off in the formal education area. A pattern of putting children out into the work force earlier instead of getting a formal education may begin to emerge, especially during these increasingly more difficult economic times. The results of this could bring an increase of lower educated blue collar workers and a severe shortage of those capable of maintaining a middle or upper level job position. This ultimately would put the United States even further behind other countries in the areas of technological advancements. “Over the past thirty years, the modern workplace has radically changed, and the demands on those making the transition from the classroom to the workforce continue to rise. Students from Birmingham and Boston no longer compete against each other for jobs; instead, their rivals are well educated students from Sydney and Singapore” (Kirsch).
Giving parents the ability to have more of an input into their children’s education, along with keeping the mandatory school requirement in place, seems to be an ideal situation. Finding a balance ...

This entire process could take years to complete, then those in need of education would have to acknowledge that they need the programs, and then be willing to participate in them.
