We are living in a tech savvy era. In this day and age, it seems like everyone from the youngest to the oldest must have a cell phone. It is somehow unthinkable not to have a cellphone. Have you seen children as young as 5 years to adults over the age of 80 years with a cell phone? I don’t have a cell phone and I am very happy with the choice I made. I don’t want a cell phone. Cell phones and their accessories are expensive. A smartphone can cost as much as $750.00 and its case more than $90.00. Do not get me started on the monthly bill. When you first open an account the wireless carrier claims they give you the best plan ever, and that the monthly rate will remain the same for at least one year. I have found that because of the text feature on cell phones, verbal communication has become a lost art. Instead of communicating directly face- to- face or even by phone, people prefer to send text or instant messages. People have lost the skills to articulate verbally and even how to look each other in the eye and talk! My conversations are meaningful without a cell phone; I am able to look people in the eye without hesitation when we speak. I am also able to hear the sincerity in someone’s voice or the anger in their tone. I can engage in one on one contact. Through text messages a person’s tone can be misinterpreted. A message that may have been sent with no poor- intentions may be interrupted by the reader as sarcastic or rude. Cell phones can take that person to person connection …show more content…

I do not have to worry that my cell phone is about to get turn off because the payment is late. It is also one less strenuous thing on my budget. It is one less bill that has to be paid monthly. At home I can enjoy quality time with my family at the dinner table. We are able to communicate about how our days went. I do not have to worry about being interrupted by notifications or a ringtone informing me of an incoming text or call. If someone needs to reach me, they can call my house phone number. If they do not get me at home, they can leave a voicemail message. I will return the person’s call at my earliest convenience. There is nothing wrong with not being reachable at all hours.
