Got Water?
Water is the most precious source of life we have. As much as we want it to be infinite, it is the most scarce item we have. 70% of the Earth 's surface is covered in water, of that 70% only
3% is drinkable. 2% is trapped in glaciers located in cold areas such as the north and south pole, which we also do not use. Finally 1% is located in rivers and underground aqueducts, this is the source of fresh water we rely on. We use this one percent to supply 7.125 billion people in the world. We struggle to deliver water far and near to households across the world and this problem only gets worse with climate change, pollution, urbanization, and increased population. Water is life. Humans plant and animals depend on water to grow and survive. …show more content…

It hasn’t been solved yet because there is no reliable, long term solution that will ultimately fix the problem right away. Water scarcity is a huge topic that almost every knows about. Currently now the United States has not been hit with a drought like other countries, so it is not viewed as a big issue that needs to be solved now. But by the time we are hit it will be to late to act.
Solutions to our failing water system would be to cut back on unnecessary water waste.
According to BBC “...metering is the fairest way to charge for water and contend that people need to be held accountable for what they use.” (BBC) Metering allows the government to monitor average water use in a household and charge or stop the amount of water going and being used. Homes with meters tend to use 1015% less water than households without them.
The rebuilding of pipelines could also have a major effect, according to BBC “In 20092010 alone, the water industry in England and Wales leaked approximately 3.28 billion litres per
Estrada 4 day...” (BBC) If these pipelines were rebuilt in time can make a huge difference. All the clean water being lost just on transportation is hurting the economy and wasting water. …show more content…

Finally just convincing people to not wash their cars, leaving their sprinklers on or even take long showers can also save billions of liters from being wasted. The solution is very feasible, we have the money and the power to set these restrictions on how much water is being
Estrada 5 drawn. Legally the state and congress can make laws that cut back on unnecessary water consumption. Financially the government and state have enough funds to place meters in every home and look into better ways to save our dying water source. Morally it is possible because no harm is coming to the people as long as they do not abuse our precious source of water or to the environment with is already dying from pollution. My solution successfully solves the problem because it makes numerous amounts of cutbacks on water usage, that can ultimately save us from shortages. By just using a meter household can save 1015% of their water usage. States and the government can also save 4 or more billion liters of water just from the rebuilding of
