Some people argue that non-violent criminals shouldn’t be incarcerated because it’s such a huge financial drain on society. Well in my opinion a non-violent criminal is still a criminal; the only difference is they weren’t violent at that particular time. Many crimes have been committed without any physical abuse. Who’s to say the next time they decide to break the law they won’t become violent or a threat to someone. Furthermore, I believe if you do the crime, you have to do the time.

In today’s society majority of people incarcerated are non-violent criminals: such as drug abusers, drunk drivers, prostitutes, and people who refuse to pay child support. Although these crimes aren’t as bad as murder or rape; they’re still a convicted crime. These non-violent crimes can cause harm to someone else or even put criminal’s own life in jeopardy. When dealing with non-violent criminals you have to think outside the box. Try to imagine all the other possibilities that could have happened during these crimes.
