The War On Drugs in the USA One of the most explosive issues in the current American political climate is illegal drug use. Drug abuse is intimately connected to problems like crime, economic discrimination, and race relations, and is a topic of great controversy for many Americans. The campaign to stamp out illegal drug use is called the “war on drugs” because it pinpoints the need to crack down on drug dealers, arrest users, and generally pursue an enormously expensive law enforcement agenda. The war on drugs has unintentionally encouraged the prolongation of economic discrimination, especially along racial lines.
