The twentieth century was an era full of revolutionary changes that shaped the world.
One of the most innovative people in the movie industry was particularly Walter Elias Disney. Disney grew up on “a farm in Marceline, Missouri, a small, Midwestern town […]” (Schwartz 441). Certainly, his “vision and ambition were driven by a zestful creativity” that made him an American sensation (Cole 7). In fact, Walt Disney was one of the most influential people of the twentieth century that transformed the world’s motion picture forever. Therefore, he ought to be included on the list of America’s 100 Most Influential People of the Twentieth Century. He has accomplished this through his artistic expression, innovative acts, and the changing of human perception in cinema.
Walt Disney used his charming artistic expression, and took everyday experiences into account to construct unique characters that have intrigued people for half a century. For many years, movies were made silently, with human actors, but, “[…] Disney had grown tired of the combination of cartoons and live-action and longed to make all cartoon films […]” (Nardo 30). By moving on from the old way of creating movies, Disney artistically began to express his desires through his uses of animation, revolutionizing the genre of film to include animation. Walt Disney was the role model of the twentieth century movie industry, and his legacy continues to live on. Back in the roaring twenties America was seeing such world-changing phenomenons such as The Great Gatsby, and penicillin, but what took the world by surprise was none other than Walt Disney and his lovable creation, Mickey Mouse. Walt Disney, throughout his entire lifetime and career, always had an idea, a spark, and a way to make things better. Even in the face of tough times, he never failed to keep his optimistic attitude and kind faith in humanity from infecting those around him. A major part of his success was due to the technological innovations that revolutionized the film industry.
The standard Disney story from the mid 1930s to the beginning of the 1940s is one of the pursuit and somewhat linear progression towards realism. Many theorists used the term ‘hyperrealism’ to describe what appeared to be Disney’s “attempt to represent reality in a medium predicated on artificiality” during the Disney-Formalist period (Disney Formalism, Pallant, 40). Indeed, as the animation and technology employed by the company became more advanced, productions relied less on gag-based humor and metamorphosis and more on realistic animation to develop character and narrative. Walt Disney created the American fantasy from thoughts pulled out of the far reaches of his imagination. He was a man who had never let go of his inner child. By simply reaching for that inner child he created every child's dream in the form of a simple talking mouse. That mouse became his trademark. Mickey was a trade mark to be used to his advantage though. With his fame and money gained from Mickey he could go on to do heroic things like build schools, work to aid his country during war, build family friendly theme parks, and make unforgettable movies. That is exactly what Disney has done and what all Americans should strive to do. Mr. Disney as we know it was full of creative ideas, produced wonderful films and amazing short films. From the beginning to the end of his life he had his ups and downs like anyone. Still without the hard times, he never would have overcome them and become a role model for so many young lives. Throughout his movies, each one was created from a problem that he had to overcome. However from this Walter Disney was able overcome his problems and grow, with the brilliant show of; competency, perseverance, and creativity. As well as share the important lessons he learned along the way.
Walt Disney once said, “All of our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” One man’s dream changed the world. Walt Disney is known worldwide for his ingenuity and creativity. He is also recognized for one of the biggest corporations worldwide. So what has made him stand out? All through Walt’s life, he worked hard to rise above his circumstances, determined never to give up, and above all to never stop dreaming. Walt Disney is among the top most successful businessmen of his time because of the ventures he made, the work he established, and his legacy that lives on.
Walt Disney is the greatest entrepreneur of all time in most minds of little people and big people everywhere. The reason for this is he started his ‘business’, selling sketches, at the age of around seven years old. He was a vibrant child, as well considering he painted the side of his barn with tar. To him schoolwork was boring which he actually said once he was a lot older. Walt Disney was a family man, considering he had so many children; his children even had lots of children. Walt Disney was a man with a lot of talent, character, and imagination, who deeply loved fairy tales.

The Disney corporation is easily the greatest empire of entertainment in the world thanks to the creator Walt Disney and his brother.
