Life isn’t as beautiful as everyone plays it out to be. People are mean, crazy, hurtful, and everything else that could lead someone to their last resort. The human mind is filled with millions of holes for things to think about from what you’re going to wear tomorrow to how you could possible get off the earth the fastest. It can be beautiful but it could also be your worst nightmare. Is that really what life is? Once it hits you that everything doesn’t end with a happy ending and not everyone can be their favorite princess from their childhood, things get a little bit darker.
Learning and growing used to seem like the best thing ever, going out with your friends and learning things to make others impressed but once all of the easy stuff is known quite well, reality is all that’s left. No more make believe and no more easy way out, you’re basically stuck. Growing up used to seem like a fantasy and for most, it’s now a nightmare that we’ll never be woken up from.
Everyone makes mistakes, it’s a part of life that no one can take away but only the lucky ones with enough strength will be able to look past them in the end. But for others, that’s not the case. Living in regret and trying to figure out why you out of all people had to do what made you the “terrible” person you now are. Some things will stick with us forever, the pain, the noise, the thoughts, the sights, the touch of what you are now so afraid of. Why does it have to be like this for so many hopeless people?
You’re alone and you feel like there’s no way out. You need to run as far as you can to get away from the pain. Maybe you’ll fun so fast and so far that you’ll finally be free. Maybe if you jump as high as you can, it’ll be left underneath you. Maybe if you leav...

...ish, and rude person all at once. She did no good at all as she was struggling with herself but she didn’t mean to hurt anyone. Her family were the only people she had left in the big world around her and she couldn’t imagine a moment when she didn’t have them by her side.
Things definitely got harder as time passed. Arguments, yelling, and fighting often but it was because of her as she thought. Her bad mood rubbed off on everyone around her and she took full blame without anyone knowing. Her grades dropped, her social life wasn’t as important, she became her own best friend. She became the best friend to herself that was holding a knife behind her back saying that it was the right thing to do. School was hard for her and got harder and harder by the day. She was a mess and when the guidance counselor got some interesting news, she was called down to speak to him.
There is an old cliché that talks about how life isn't a bowl of cherries and that it presents hardships to everyone. Thomas Hobbes takes this cliché to another level when he says, "The life of man [is] solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short." To most this quote is depressing and dismal, but in many literary works, it portrays the plot that develops throughout the work. From Holden Caulfield in The Catcher in the Rye, to Hamlet in Shakespeare's play Hamlet, and even Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby, the life of man doesn't seem all that it's cracked up to be. These characters face struggles that lead them to become depressed, lonely, senile, and even mad. Whether they are losing their fathers, the love of their lives, or themselves, these characters are a part of a story that shows very little light. The themes of these various works are fall across a similar spectrum as they deal with the misery that life can bring.
Everyone makes at least one decision in their lifetime and it’s not always a good choice or decision. Some are small, domestic, and innocuous. Others are more important, affecting people’s lives, livelihoods, and well-being. Many of the simple decisions people make like what color pants they will wear today or whether or not they want spaghetti for dinner, etc. are often automatic or based on their preference at a given moment. Inevitably, we make mistakes along the way. So as you look back at your life and think about some of the poor choices you have made, you might find yourself wondering exactly why you made those decisions that seem so poor now in retrospect. Why did you marry someone who was all wrong for
“Growing up” is a very broad term that is used without a true, consistent definition. In essence, it describes and encompasses themes of coming of age and the loss of innocence as a person moves from child to adult. In many respects, people view this change as a specific, pivotal moment in a person’s life, such as an eighteenth birthday, or the day a person leaves their parents’ house. This idea of having a crucial moment in life, which provides the open door into adulthood, is portrayed in many novels. It is easy to find a death that occurs, or a specific event that causes a character to “grow up” prematurely, but many times, contrary to most beliefs, that exact event is not the turn of the key leading through the doors to maturity. It is rather just a small push which starts a domino effect. This is the same scenario in the novel All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy. This novel proves that loss of innocence is a learning process rather than the result of a
I realized that coming of age is difficult for some people, Ponyboy for example. The ongoing feud between the Socs and the Greasers caused Ponyboy to grow up in dangerous conditions. These conditions caused Ponyboy to have to adapt, and the adaptions that Ponyboy went through weren’t exactly
Sometimes you need to 'stop and smell the roses,' as the saying goes, and just enjoy life as it comes at you. And life does indeed come at you, with its ups and downs, but perhaps a particular low is needed in order to appreciate the normal. But high points make themselves known easily, announcing themselves with imprints on the mind, memories.
...s is right; every story has a silver lining. But it is once we open ourselves to life and its endless possibilities that we may find it.
Have you ever thought about how hard growing up is? Coming of age can mean many different things for different people but it mostly means growing up. Everyone has their own meaning, it’s different for each family, culture, etc. For example, for some people coming of age means to be able to drive, for others its graduating high school. In addition to coming of age comes responsibility, privileges, consequences, and many others. Coming of age can change your perception of life because of the things that come along with it but just because you can do more things that you weren’t able to do before doesn’t mean that you should just be focusing on this new part of your life.
Though people see adulthood and childhood more different than alike, we never stop growing, no matter the age. We never stop learning. We always have rules to follow through life. There is an
There are two different but similar stages in a person’s life: childhood and adulthood. I remember when I was a child, all I ever wanted to do was being an adult. Now that I am an adult or semi adult, I wish to be a child again. Looking back at my childhood everything seemed so easy. Now that I’m out in the “real world” everything seems to be ten times harder. As we continue to grow and develop we go through several stages of life. These characteristics can be distinguished by these similarities and differences: our thoughts in each stage, our actions in each stage, and our experiences.
And so we find ourselves ready and eager to move on. We take with us the strength and knowledge we've gained through our interactions, encounters, challenges and accomplishments at school and at home with parents, teachers and friends. Remember life is not a race but a journey to be enjoyed each step of the way. I leave you with these words from the mountain climber John Amatt: "Adventure isn't hanging on a rope off the sides of a mountain.
People don't truly accept life for what it is until they've actually tasted adversity and went through those misfortunes and suffering. We are put through many hardships in life, and we learn to understand and deal with those issues along the way. We find that life isn't just about finding one's self, but about creating and learning from our experiences and background. Adversity shapes what we are and who we become as individuals. Yann Martel's Life of Pi shows us that adverse situations help shape a person's identity and play a significant role in one's lief by determining one's capabilities and potential, shaping one's beliefs and values, and defining the importance and meaning of one's self.
Viktor Frankl said, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing; the last of the human freedoms to choose one’s attitude in any given circumstance, to choose one’s way.” I support this quote because if something doesn’t go the way you want it you could either look at the bright and spirited part of it, and make things better, or look at the dull and awful part of it, and make things worse. If it were me I would always try to look at the bright part of it, especially since you are the one who chooses your own perception and outlook on life. That is why you should think of it like this; do you want your perception on life to be tremendous and wonderful or dreadful and horrific.
To begin something new, you must sacrifice something old. To enter the real world, you must graduate your childhood.
Growing up, everybody gets to learn that the real world is not a fantasy that’s easy to cope with. While I was growing up I believe that life was really easy; not until I reached 12th grade. That’s where I got to learn how to be independent, and work hard to earn my things. 2015 was the year where I got a little taste of the real world. Growing up was a blur, and I barely remember everything from my childhood, so I shall tell my reader the important facts, challenges, and rewards I have faced in my life.
At the beginning of one’s journey of gaining more knowledge, most children don’t mind school, for it is a change of environment for them. The majority of elementary school adolescents even enjoy school to some degree. As time wears on, we usually, and sadly, begin to see a change of heart. Children become fatigued from school and therefore don’t take pleasure in going anymore. Maybe their teachers didn’t teach them in the way that they learn most efficiently, or maybe students just become bored with the whole “school scene” itself. Whatever the case, it is apparent that by the time they reach high school, their interest for learning alone has died out.
