There are six different nutrients vital for the human body. Carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins are the macronutrients. Vitamins and minerals are classified as the micronutrient because they are only need in small doses (Nutrition: Science and Applications, 2012).
Carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins are energy yielding nutrients. A constant energy source for the body is carbohydrate nutrients. Lipids are generally known as fats and oils. Lipids are also a source of energy stored in a lightweight form within the body. Proteins provide the nutrients needed for growth and maintenance of the body structures (Nutrition: Science and Applications, 2012).
Water is classified in its own category for nutrients. Water doesn’t provide energy but it is a macronutrient. The function water provides within the human body is it is a lubricant, regulate body temperature and helps with transportation (Nutrition: Science and Applications, 2012).
