Learning styles are comprised of a set of tendencies, attitudes, and behaviors that facilitate the learning process through the delivery method. Learning styles can be classified and identified in numerous ways. Based on learning strengths, weaknesses, and preferences, individuals can define their personal learning style (Blanchard & Thacker, 2013). The results of a self-assessment have revealed that my personal learning style is defined as visual (Vark, 2017). Understanding the needs of a visual learner who is challenged with the influences of adult responsibilities will reveal how best to leverage strengths and weaknesses throughout an educational journey.

Characteristics
Tools such as charts, diagrams, and presentations provide visual learners with an optimum ability to absorb and retain information. Generally, individuals in this group have an instinctively adept sense of direction and spatial memory. In addition, visual learners prefer to read and write rather than listen to instruction. They also dissociate themselves from their surroundings in an effort to focus on their observations. Finally, visual learners require an overall view and purpose before beginning an activity (Fatt, 1993). The style provides the ability for the learner to first see what they are expected to learn. This step engages a visual learner and opens their minds to the learning experience. In addition to using visual aids, educators should use colors, check lists, and provide an environment conducive for drawing out ideas in order to connect concepts visually.
