The Virtual World and Parenting: Effects On Emerging Adulthood My own life path has been full of unexpected events and choices. These events and choices carved out my future with various paths I would’ve never guessed I would take, not only changed the outcomes in my future, but also my transition to adulthood. The virtual world is a large percentage of my life. My parents and the virtual world impacts both my brain and body negatively, so my emerging adulthood has been hindered by them because, mentally, I have not been able to detach my mind from the virtual world versus real life - my mother and father never parented me to help guide my way into the future.
My parents were too busy battling their own wars to notice that I was slipping

I lived and breathed to be behind my computer screen. I had no parenting, hardly any worldly knowledge, and no self-discipline. She heard from my mother that she could no longer take care of me and that I was detached from the real world so my aunt plucked me out of the home I was in and moved me into hers. It was a huge task for her and my uncle but they parented me and helped me start my emerging adulthood on the right track. When I moved into their house they bought me clothing, helped me form social skills, and got me started in a GED program. Without them I would’ve either transitioned to adulthood later or I would’ve rotted away in my parents’ …show more content…
My virtual relationships still mean more to me than my face-to-face ones, because of this it’s hard for me to disengage from the virtual world to get realistic tasks done. Even with the knowledge of knowing that the virtual world makes my physical life harder I still enjoy being with those people whom I’ve created relationships with because they mean the most to me. My hobbies exist online; the people I love exist online. Will this make things harder for me to move forward in life? Absolutely, until I find that balance the virtual world will always pull me away from things that need to be done. Now that I am on my feet, I am attending college and my mind is set on majoring in Dental Hygiene, this may be subject to change. I have also lost over one hundred pounds and undergone a few serious surgeries do to being sanitary for so long. I might not have the room to “explore” as much as I’d want during my emerging adulthood but I have wasted a good number of years doing nothing with my life. With the time I do have, my goals are to have a sense of self security in my future with a stable income, and to end up happy with the career I choose and the family I end up creating with my
My college plans include attending a two-year college and then pursing a degree in dental hygiene. I believe that I will have a great opportunity to give back to my community with my chosen career. As a dental hygienist, there would be many ways to help young and old alike. The time that I would volunteer would enable me to become more involved in the life of our community.
... In the future I hope to become a Dentist and have my own practice. In order for that to happen I must have an associate’s degree, bachelor’s, volunteer dental hours, and must have a dental license. Someday I would like to make a difference in someone’s life, like someone did for me. With hard work and dedication, anyone can go far.
As we grow up, we are often asked what we want to be. Many people say careers such as a doctor or an actor. When I grow up, I want to be a dental hygienist. When I tell people this they often think i’m crazy for wanting to “work in someone’s mouth”. Dental hygiene is appealing to me. It is a big part of personal hygiene and keeping yourself healthy. One of the first things a person notices about you is your smile and I want to help people perfect theirs. I know that being a dental hygienist will not be the easiest thing in the world but there are some benefits. You don’t have to work full time if you don’t want to. Upon enrolling at Texas State Technical College, I met some amazing professors who really inspired me to go for with my dreams of becoming a dentist. Even after expressing my fear of failure because I had a child, they assured me that I had it in me to do it. I had no idea how much work it would take to get to where wanted to be, but I knew that this was the career for me. It felt so good to finally know my purpose in life. Before actually starting my prerequisite for dental school my main motivation for going into dental school was to help people and I had a genuine interested in all the new technology. All the new advancements in technology that the dental industry as a whole had offered definitely reeled me in. I didn 't really know what I was getting myself into or how much dentistry has to offer until I actually started working as a dental assistant. There is where I learned what my purpose in dentistry was going to
All the various factors that lead me to dentistry amounted to just a part of my decision to become a dentist, the other half of my decision came from the simple question, “(w)ill this be a satisfying career for me?” A satisfying career, to me, is defined by whether or not I can use my career as a means to assist others and experience a sense of accomplishment and self-gratification in helping others. The notion of a satisfying career was one that came through personal experiences. Being a former Medicaid recipient, I was thankful to those that worked in the public health sector to help those in need, including myself and my family. Through my past experiences, I felt obligated to reciprocate the resources and assistance that I had received. At the end of my career, I hope to reflect back on my career and experience a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment for having helped others throughout my career; this is what will amount to successful career, from my point of view.
By this, addicts turn gaming into reality, changing certain criteria over social ways and behaviors. To start with, gamers tend to lose themselves to fantasy games. I can remember coming to school and hearing all my classmates talk about how much they hated going to the dentist. Going to the dentist was one thing that I have always loved to do. The sound of the tools and just the smell of the clinic was never a bad atmosphere to me, I actually enjoy the dentist. Laura was my first dental hygienist from as far back as I can remember, and she had the whitest teeth I have ever seen! I have honestly came to the conclusion that I am obsessed with teeth. With this being said, I have always felt and known that I wanted to be a dental hygienist. I am currently in my first year here at Community College getting my preq for dental hygiene. I always get the question, “Why would you want to look in somebody’s mouth all day?” After I hear this question and then I start thinking to myself. I want to be a dental hygienist because first of all someone has got to do it and secondly, I think smiles light up rooms and if I can help get more smiles in this world then that is what I am going to do. With seeking my career in dental hygiene I have great hopes of being able to help people understand and find compassion in caring for their teeth and inspiring them as Laura inspired me.
The career I have chosen for my future is to become a registered dental hygienist. It wasn’t until I actually learned what dental hygienists do that influenced my interest from medical to dentistry. The first honest reason I was gravitated to dental hygiene was because of the salary. I didn’t really know what Dental Hygienist actually did until I did some research.
Do you know what you want to do when you graduate from high school? For me that’s an easy question to answer. I want to go to college to become a Dental Hygienist. My mother was taking care of me, and my three other siblings all alone by herself. When my father was living my mother only had one job, but now she had to work more. She had a massive impact on our lives by making sure we had everything we needed. Because I was the oldest of my siblings, I felt like I was a parent. At just eight years old, I had to skip school just to make sure my siblings had someone to look after them while my mother worked. I was obligated to feed them, give them baths, and put clothes on them. It was very difficult, but I knew my mother had to pay bills, and take care of us and herself, so I knew she couldn’t afford a babysitter. When times got very tough, my mom would get stressed out and take it out on us by throwing tantrums, hollering at us and beating on us. I didn’t have a choice but to encourage my mother, and be the one to push her to not give
It was on a Friday morning at 4:30 A.M. that happiness and joy filled the hearts of both my parents. I was born on November 29, 1996 at Broward General Hospital in Fort Lauderdale Florida. My parents had five children, and among the five children that they had, I was the third (or middle) child from them. It started off as two boys, then I came along as the first girl, after it was another boy, then finally, another baby girl; so total was three boys and two girls. The way that my parents lived and treated each other was the same as if any other married couple that loved each other so much. They’ve gone through a lot to get to where they are now today, but they made it and along the way had us five children. They have been really strong with each other which made them only have the five of us and no other step children. My mom is a great cook and enjoy cooking for us; this is probably where my passion for culinary comes from. My dad is an amazing tailor, he is very good at making our clothes, and my passion for fashion probably came from him. My dad is also a teacher, one of the best math teacher I know, he is passionate about his job and his family is the center of his universe. I cannot finish this chapter without mentioning my grandmother, I was lucky enough to have ever met. I had spent part of my life time with her, like the rest of the family she is sweet, my grandmother Abelus,
Children of all ages everywhere these days seem to only depend on the internet. The internet is an amazing creation, but people take advantage of it. Since there is internet there is access to all kinds of social media, games, and all sorts of other things. However, because of today’s society internet is one of the only things kids use and go on, whether it’s go on Facebook for hours or watch ridiculous videos on YouTube, the internet is taking a negative turn towards children, their brains, smartness, and attitude. Despite helpful or early learning programs, the internet does not make children smarter.
