As violence becomes more common place in todays society, instead people search for something to blame. Experts tend to employ violent video games a scapegoat. They believe that kids that play video games with glorified violence are likely to be violent in real life. Author Gerard Jones disagrees with these ideas and composes a convincing argument against it in his article "Violent Media is Good for Kids." (Jones, 1) I believe this article is written well, considering it makes important points and uses his life experiences to tell us about it. In his thesis, it says that comic books which critics assume are immature and gloried violence actually teach pacifism and tolerance. Jones goes on to say that humans must learn to how to handle our feelings of rage and not try to avoid it. (1) It is an important human trait that can be positive. Then in this article he goes on to give examples from his own life to show how comic book and media has made a positive effect on his life. (Jones, 1) The first example he gives was when he was a little kid in school at first he had trouble fitting in. Then in the comic books he found a fantasy world where he learned to control his rage. This helps him find a group of like minded friends where he feels he belongs. Another example Jones used comes later in his life when he has his own kids. (2) One day he hears that unlike his kids ' friends he is scare of climbing trees. Trying to help his son overcome his fears, Jones shares the story of Tarzan with him. This story teaches kids about overcoming their fears and being brave, and this fantasy story helps his son overcome his own fear. This is an impressive argument by reason of it is effortless to relate to. It shows how comic books...

...he criminals. Today a person that commits an unspeakable crime will have his face posted on every TV and his name remembered. Every one wants their fifth teen minutes of fame, and sadly they determine violence as the only way the world will remember them.
In conclusion Jones and I have come to the same understanding that violent in the media does not translate into violence in the real world. In additionally we see the media as an important component of growing up. Learning how to deal with these negative emotion at a young age is important. In the article Jones says "children engage the rage they stifled come to fear it less, and become more capable of utilizing it against life challenges." (2) In this modern age we will all face unfavorable situation but we must learn how to overcome these challenges in a positive way. That is why I prefer Jones article.
