Video Game Violence
Video game violence has been a long going controversy. Video games have not been around all that long, “first introduced in the 1970s” (Cesarone, Feb. ‘95), and started out as being centered towards the Children. Well anybody that has grown up with games are now older and more mature and demand more from their gaming experience, and so the creation of new types and styles of games have evolved to suit them. I have grown up with games, and am at the age where ‘kids games’ just don’t do it for me anymore. The games that I thought were enjoyable when I was a kid are now very boring. I need a more complex game with many variables to consider, and I am mature enough to handle violence, and what is more complex than a war game? This is where the controversy comes into play. The games that are now being made for the older generation (those that are 17 and older) are also being played by the younger generation (those younger than 17), which is not the intention of the industry. These games tend to be more violent and mature, since they are intended for a more mature audience that can handle the violence without taking it seriously. While entertaining to the older generation, people see them as desensitizing the younger generation, and actually harming them emotionally, and so wish to get rid of them completely.
Violent video games should not be gotten rid of, and I will tell you why. First I will give you the reasons why video games should not be violent, and controversial. Then the safety issues that are in place to protect the kids from getting, and playing these games. And finally why they should not be gotten rid of, followed by a concluding paragraph.

...ds that actually do play these games go out and do what they did in a game. Not many. I know I haven’t done anything in real life that I have done in a game, or seen in a movie. Most are intelligent enough to know what is on the screen is not real, and if they can’t make that realization, they shouldn’t be able to play them. They shouldn’t play them anyways since they are marketed for older folks. If these games are abolished, I know of plenty of adults that would be very bored, and even out of work, since more than half of their consumers are no longer satisfied.

Alcohol Anonymous (AA) is a fellowship worldwide consisting of over one hundred thousand men and women who are alcoholics, banded together in solving a common problem and in helping fellow alcohol users in their recovery from alcoholism. A.A.'s twelve steps are considered a list of principles which are spiritual in their nature, and if practiced as a way of life by members, can help significantly in expelling a member’s obsession to drink, and enable a holistic awareness. Step one is when the member admits they are powerless over the use of alcohol, resulting in an unmanageable life. No one wants to admit defeat, but admitting powerlessness over alcohol is the first step in becoming liberated. Step two is having a belief that the almighty power can restore their sanity. It is clear when reading the Aeneid that Virgil was familiar with the earlier works of Homer, The Iliad and The Odyssey. Virgil, more than just being aware of these earlier works, uses themes and ideas from these poems in his own. Far more than just copying scenes and ideas, Virgil expands and alters these themes to better tell his story, unique from the Greek originals he is drawing from. Virgil reveals what qualities he regards as heroic through the juxtaposition of Aeneas’ character and the negative aspects of the underworld. By looking at which qualities are esteemed and derided respectively, we can identify the qualities that Virgil would like to emphasize positively to his readers. Also, we can argue that Virgil is indeed trying to convey a particular set or morals to those readers. Beyond the underworld, it is possible to clearly identify these traits in the other sections of the poem where Virgil is borrowing and making his own alterations. Using these distinctions we can very clearly derive Virgil's morality from the poem, and see where Virgil's ideal characters veer away from the Greek ideal that came before.
...meeting was one of awe and some relief. This meeting made me realize that I should really appreciate the things that I have in life because there are others out there who are way off worse. What I learned from the meeting is that the problem is not how much you drink; it’s what happens when you drink. Getting clean and sober is for those who want it, not those who need it. The key step for addicts is to maintain a motivated way of thinking once you start feeling good about yourself from making amends. I believe 12-step sober support groups can be extremely beneficial to the person attempting abstinence. The premise is that one addict can best help another and that by helping another you actually help yourself. AA is a fundamental example of how groups support sobriety in individuals as long as they are willing to follow a program and commit to changing their habits.
People have always been looking for a reason why horrible things happen. The media is quick to blame video games as the target and cause of many shootings that have occurred, ever since Columbine and Quake. People have been blaming video games for violence for years now, ever since violent video games have been made. News reports blame video games more and more for each shooting, telling the public how this person played video games for x amount of hours a day, and that video games caused him or her to shoot people, and how video games encourage and reward violence. Anti-video game lobbyists have been campaigning to have violence removed from video games, citing resources that they themselves have created as reasons for such, poorly done studies where they confirm that kids are more aggressive through how much hot sauce they put on someone’s fries. While unbiased studies of video games and their links to violence are hard to come by, recent research has shown that video games do not in fact have a casual link to violence, and may even have the opposite effect. Violent video games have nearly no link to violence in teens or adults.
From the beginnings of the industry, violence in video games has been an issue of discussion. From the pixilated weaponry in 'Space Invaders' to the myriad of weapons in 'Unreal Tournament 2003,' games have evolved over the years. Newer games are more real. Their environments are more immersive. Small details such as rain drops or a falling corpse are now realistically detailed in the games we play. Because of this, some people believe that this level of realism is desensitizing our kids and making them violent. Fueled by the school shootings of a few years ago, these people are calling for the censorship of video games and regulation of the industry by the government. Based on bad research and faulty logic, these people seek to squash the freedoms of adults because of a perceived danger to children. Freedom of speech, in the form of video games, should be preserved because it does not harm our children and it furthers freedom.
Book IV of the Aeneid can stand alone as Vergil's highest literary achievement, but centered in the epic, it provides a base for the entire work. The book describes Aeneas's trip through the underworld, where after passing through the depths of hell, he reaches his father Anchises in the land of Elysium. Elysium is where the "Soul[s] to which Fate owes Another flesh" lie (115). Here Anchises delivers the prophecy of Rome to Aeneis. He is shown the great souls that will one day occupy the bodies of Rome's leaders. Before the prophecy of Rome is delivered, Aeneis's journey through the underworld provides a definite ranking of souls according to their past lives on Earth. The Aeneid does not encompass a heaven, but the Underworld provides a punishment place where souls are purged of their evils and after one thousand years, regenerated to Earth. The ranking of souls in the Underworld warns of punishment for sin, and provides a moral framework for Roman life.
I attended an AA meeting at the 5th street fellowship on October 6, 2015. I looked forward to attending this meeting since the beginning of the clinical rotation. The meeting exceeded my expectations. It was an eye-opener and a life changing experience. The meeting at the 5th Street Fellowship consisted of a leader and two members. Even though there was only a smaller group gather, I could see the positive impact AA has had on each of the members personally, regardless of years of sobriety. The chairman of the group discussed the influence his sponsor, AA, and the 12-step program has had on his life and how he lives a happier, healthier, and a spiritual life due to his sobriety. Aeneas is the son of Venus. This fact alone brings about much of the hero in him. Venus, a concerned mother, always looks out for her son. She does everything she thinks will help to ensure his safety and success. At the beginning of his journey from Troy, she prevents his death at sea. Juno has persuaded King Aeolus to cause vicious storms, rocking Aeneas' fleet and nearly killing all of them. Venus then goes to Jupiter and begs him to help Aeneas: Venus appealed to him, all pale and wan, With tears in her shining eyes:
Has something in your life ever persuaded you to do a bad thing? Did a person persuade you or did a video game? There are a lot of violent video games in the market right now that a lot of people are buying. Many adults don’t like these games and they want them to be banned for their children’s behavior. I don’t think that violent games should be banned. I believe these games can be dealt with in other ways that don’t get rid of them completely. I will be trying to convince you that violent video games aren’t that bad. I don’t think it’s a big deal because it is up to the parents whether they want their kids to be playing that genre of games, it is common sense that you shouldn’t do acts of violence, and there are other things out there that can influence people to do bad things.
The key aspect in this debate is whether or not teens should play violent video games or RPG 's. Some people are distracted by the thought of violence in the game. Then out of spite, think that it 's mostly all about violence and no good can come out of it. How one-sided can this be? This is an extremely limited view of life and is likely to completely unbalance, confuse and make one feel powerless & helpless in times of life-threatening or survival circumstances. I strongly believe in realism and we are living in times where terrorism has become rampant in different parts of the world and even America where we are living is no longer immune. America is also impacted on a daily basis by increasing gun-violence. Video games showing violence develops the instinct to be geared to such a possibility hitting you and also prepares one to think about the options and choices available or to be created if not available to survive. It however does not mean that one needs indulge in violence because if that were so then no self-defence program existing today will ever function. Infact programs like Karate, kung-fu etc makes you physically and mentally strong and makes you take better judgement in times of crisis. Thus I strongly believe and support teens playing violent video games as it helps improve vision, increases the ability to strategize and plan, helps in being psychologicaly better prepared psychological cases, and that they don 't cause mass shootings.
We also see in the story what someone must sacrifice in order to fulfill their goals. Though Aeneas's destiny was much more grand than many of our own, we still must make choices that can sometimes hurt others. I really thought that Vergil captured our inner emotions with the affair between Dido and Aeneas.
Parents should not allow their children to play violent video games because they are at risk of becoming desensitized. Parents often let their kids play violent video games so parents do not have to watch over their kids. Why shouldn’t parents let their kids play violent video games? Parents should not let their kids play violent video games because they will be influenced to make the decision to hurt other people. According to Dr. Phil (renowned psychologist), kids don’t think they are actually killing people, usually when they are shooting someone in the game, they are getting bonus points. Kids are also becoming desensitized by all of the violence. Parents, I just want you to know that, if you are allowing your kids to play these horrific games, then you need to keep a close eye on your kids as they grow up, because you never know if they are going to grow up with such barbaric behavior and then apply it to another human being. Obviously, I do not appreciate the fact that parents allow their kids to play violent video games at such a young age. It is undeniable that your kids are might grow up to be serial killers or homicidal
The video games perception is somewhat new in this modern society. In spite of they often to be entertaining, the contents have become more violent and troubling as computing technology has become much more advanced. Today, the popularity of violent video games has caused a growth in controversy. Parents and experts feel that some games are just too fiercely, and they request the government to regulate the sales of these games. On the other hand, I completely think violent video games do not cause an expansion in aggression in adolescents is caused by an exaggeration of the effects of violent video games and this plan is indeed pointless.
The interaction between gods and mortals, is shown from the first paragraph. Virgil lets us know that Aeneas is not even at fault but Juno despises him.
