The article opens with a summary of the violence and anti-social behavior that children and teachers alike may become victims of. When the violence becomes very apparent, parents don’t know who to blame so they accuse the school, the families of the delinquents, the media, drugs, gangs and even peers. There is strong evidence that illustrates how school plays a role when it comes to juvenile delinquency. Children become frustrated, angry, depressed and begin to lose their self-esteem as the school year progresses because they fall behind on what is expected of them academically. In the first trial, 66 juveniles, ages 13-17, in a correctional institution were chosen to and put in pairs. The pairs consisted of two individuals who had committed the same number of violent assaults in the 13 weeks prior to the study. Only 62 of the juveniles finished the study. The juveniles who had received the active tablets were less violent than those who took the placebo tablets during the 13 week study. This same trial was applied to adult prisoners and found that there were definitely differences in the adults who took active tablets. This led the Aylesbury Prison to request more funding from the government for further research. If more juvenile correctional institutions were to give juveniles the active tablets, they may be able to rehabilitate these juveniles so that they could rejoin society in the near future and not commit any future acts of deviance. In the U.S. we don’t tend to deal with childhood misbehavior in the best way possible. Teachers, principals, and other adults in power will only put up with a child’s misbehavior so long before they no longer want to deal with it because they find themselves incapable of it. If these findings prove anything, it is that if most of these children are misbehaving because they are stressed and depressed about falling behind, the best possible thing for these adults to do is to find a way to help these children stay with the rest of the class.
