I gave this paper a lot of thought before I began to write. ?What qualities and traits do I posses that make me desirable as an employee, a teammate, and as a person?? First, you must be able to identify your own personal strengths and weaknesses in order to become a lifelong learner and an essential part of a ?team?. As technology is constantly growing you have to be willing to accept what makes you an asset or a liability in any given situation you may encounter in your life. The qualities and traits that I feel make me a valuable entity to my employers, co-workers, classmates and within my personal relationships are varied. I will go on to describe some of the attributes I think are most important in establishing and maintaining successful relationships whether personal or work related. On a daily basis I am challenged with a multitude of situations that I must prioritize and resolve in order to move ahead. Through these experiences I have developed the ability to juggle these situations in a timely and satisfactory manner. Thus, making me a multitasked individual capable of handling a variety of rigorous tasks. Multitasking enables me to be more productive within a demanding atmosphere. Aside from being an expert juggler, the ability to work well with others is a crucial part of most social interactions, as we are forced to interact with individuals in our social and personal realm. Active listening and an open dialogue are the keys to good communication. This has helped me to fulfill my obligations as a team member. Dedication and hard work are additional components that have enabled me to gain ground in the workplace. For example, the refinery I work at is running 24, 7, for me this means having to sometimes work overtime or on the weekends. Taking on-line courses has made it easier for me to remain accessible and dependable as an employee. I haven?t learned how to fit in time with friends and family yet, but I hope by my 3 or 4 course this will be a breeze. Although I would like to think I was perfect, I have come into the reality that in order to move forth in life you must continually try to better yourself both professionally and personally. I feel that my most crippling weakness is my lack of education. Now days, you can?t practically get a job flipping burgers without an Associates Degree.
Multi-tasking is the second of my weaknesses that can hinder my team effectiveness and slow productivity. It is true that a large number of tasks have to be accomplished within a limited
David Silverman provided four main reasons why multitasking can be a reliable source for doing many tasks at once. The first reason is multitasking can help a person collect pieces of information faster. Silverman used the example of him getting contact from a customer to make a slide, but wasn't available so his employee started on the slide. After reading his email, Silverman and his employee accomplish the slide within thirty minutes. This example shows how in a certain time a person can collect information quicker from doing another task. The second reason is multitasking can help a person from any distractions or interruptions from doing the tasks
Although some people may think multi-tasking is a benefit because they can get more done, they don’t realize that the more they try to balance at once the less attention they are giving to the tasks at hand. In James Gleick’s article “Attention! Multitaskers,” he talks about how a young co-worker is having a conversation with the companies
People tend to have different ideas of what constitutes good communication. It is important to define communication and ways to build effective communication within teams, in order to have a successful team output. Some people think of communication solely as speaking, but it should be stressed that up to 90% of communication can be listening to fellow team members, and only 10 % talking (Lay, 2008). There are different aspects of effective communication that should be discussed by the group when it is initially formed. In order for teams to be successful, they should define how they will communicate with each other, and define the tasks that will set out by the team.
Michael is a happy student who is working to improve his communication skills with his classmates. He is slowly making progress in his educational goals. Although Michael does show some frustration issues, he has shown great improvements and responds very well to praise, one on one attention, and immediate consequences. While Michael does need to be encouraged to participate in activities and independent work he is improving on these skills. However, he just needs an extra boost compared to most students.
When it came time to meet with Dr. Amy Pardo for an individual meeting, we sat and mapped out the plan for the semester in English Composition II. Before enrolling into English Composition II, it was scared because it might have ended up being like English Composition I where the professor expressed that I did not write very well. After writing a paper for Dr. Pardo and receiving her critique back on it, she said the writing skills were excellent, but work needs to be done to a few things. During the individual meeting, we figured out work need to be done as far as grammar, punctuation, and structure, but the critical thinking and sentence formation are excellent. By evaluating the summary, rhetorical analysis, critique, and research paper, the strengths and weaknesses vary throughout all of the essays.
For many in the workforce today multi-tasking and busyness have become the norm and the only work environment many employees have ever known.
Paul declares in 1st Corinthians that to each of God’s children a spiritual gift has been given. Over the years of my walk with the Lord I have concluded that I possess the noticeable gift of speaking in tongues and perhaps the gift of discerning spirits. As we have been learning about our proclivities towards certain strengths, I have been thinking about different ways mine are useful in and for the Church. Analytical is in my top 5 and it greatly assists my ability to learn and discern during the teaching of the Word. As Gallup puts it on their website, I have a “prove it” mentality. Therefore, habitually, I scrutinize everything the speaker says and cross-reference it against my bank of theological knowledge. However, I realize that I
In today’s society, people like to believe they are different or unique; however, we all share the same qualities as far as our weaknesses and strengths go. While one group’s greatest strength might be forgiveness, it might be another group’s greatest weakness. It is important for people to know what their greatest weaknesses and strengths are because these qualities help define who people are. Furthermore, it is crucial for people to not only focus on their negative qualities, but to also focus on their positive qualities. Upon taking the “VIA Survey of Character Strengths,” I learned what my top five strengths are, how my weakest strength is also one of my top strengths, and how I already incorporate them into my everyday life.
There are literally hundreds of desirable traits in the workplace. Of these, one of the arguably most important is to be well-rounded in the workplace. Many skills can assist an individual in being a well-rounded employee. Oral communication skills, written communication skills, teamwork, technical skills, leadership skills, adaptation skills, computer skills, interpersonal skills and analytic abilities are some of the key factors to a well-rounded employee. While these skills all seem to be of equal ability to the well-rounded employee, the scope of this paper will only delve into a few of the skills preceding. Technical skills, oral communication skills and leadership skills will all be detailed in this review in an attempt to help you (the reader) become a well-rounded employee.
Multitasking is something we all do. With lack of time and needing to get things done fast we often find ourselves doing more than one task at a time. As a college student I find myself multitasking a lot more than I’d like to admit, but it has become such a hard habit to break. Multitasking can often make us feel more productive, but it may not be as efficient as we would like to believe. Multitasking may be causing us more stress, it can be dangerous and cause us problems, and it may cause us to waste more time than we realize and cause us to produce low quality work.
I ended up contacting 3 of my family members, and I told them to be brutality honest with me. I also told them whatever they said to me would not hurt my feelings. The four people I contacted where my brother, mom and dad. My dad said that my strengths where that I’m independent and I like to work on my own, that I was very determined to be successful, and that I am very driven to be the best at everything. She said my weaknesses where time management since I sometimes put off homework till last minute, that processes where hard for me to follow because I like to do things my way, he also said that I am very needy for approval after I have completed something. My mom said that I am a hard worker and feel the need to compete tasks fast, that I am a very loyal friend, and I am very determined to succeed in life. She said for my weaknesses that I can sometimes be selfish when it comes to work because I care about me succeeding more then others, she also said that me being a loyal friend is also a weakness because I care about them as much as I care about myself, and finally she said that I can sometimes get distracted easily. According to my brother my strengths are that I am very studious when it comes to school and work, also that I am very determined in life,
I am an ISTJ with unique personality strengths and weaknesses. My strengthens are being hardworking, productive, efficient, and driven (Kroeger, Thuesen, & Rutledge, 2002, p. 306). In opposition, being compulsive, inexpressive, and driven by routines are my weaknesses (Kroeger et al, 2002, pp. 308-309). The Prentice Hall Self-Assessment increased awareness of more personality strengths and weaknesses for my consideration.
Honestly, it is much easier for me to say what my weaknesses are than my strengths. I usually tend to go for the difficult men; the ones with some kind of “problem”. This tends to land me in the middle of nasty break-ups and unfortunate broken hearts. So now one would also agree that I am too forgiving and give too many second chances. Now, all those hurt feelings can sometime tend to leave me cruel and bitter. I am now beginning to understand that not everyone has the same work ethics as I do. It greatly frustrates me when I see a fellow co-worker messing around on the job and when I tell my manager it seems as if they don’t care. It makes me feel like a nag, but it is really something that is important to me, especially since the matter deals with patient care on the bottom line. At work, I get rather upset when I see fraternizing between certain cliques. I know that any office has the same politics, but it to me is still hard to swallow. Another weakness is that when I have my mind made up, there is no stopping me. Now, one could see this as a strengt...
I believe that life is a learning experience and being able to recognize our own strengths and weaknesses can help us become better individuals in anything we choose to do, whether it is positive abilities and skills that can help achieve our goals or negative personal areas that need improvement. Knowing yourself and what you can do, can help you recognize and overcome your weaknesses.
