HOW TO FIND A SUMMER OR PAR-TIME JOB

The first step to get a job is deciding on the kind of job you want. You need to look at the type of job, the location, the hours and the pay. The second step is to ask yourself “What do you have to offer an employer?” “What kind of skills do you have?” Then you develop a resume and talk to your family members and ask them if they have any contacts at your ideal job’s company. Next you have to read the newspaper or go on the internet. After you see a job you are interested in, apply for the jobs. Make sure you are familiar with job applications and have all the information you need. The last step is interviewing for the jobs. Develop answers to interview questions, think of a few questions you could ask, and dress conservatively.
There are many places where you could look for a job. Local stores often need help, as well as stores in the mall. You could go to hotels and resorts or to tourist attractions.

A Letter To Sherlock Holmes Essay

- Dear Holmes, I hope you are doing well, and I continue to pray that your health stays in tip top shape so that we can successfully conclude this investigation. My main reason for writing you this letter is to keep you up-to-date with all the goings on at Baskerville Hall. In our carriage, I and Sir Henry were treated to some mental stimulus in the shape of serene meadows and farmers tending to their amply sized cows. I never imagined that after travelling through such tranquil and heavenly landscape we would be greeted upon arrival by a barrage of soldiers....   [tags: Sherlock Holmes]

A Child Called It By Dave Pelzer Essay

- A Child Called "It", by Dave Pelzer, is a first person narrative of a child’s struggle through a traumatic abused childhood. The book begins with Dave telling us about his last day at his Mother’s house before he was taken away by law enforcement. At first I could not understand why he had started at the end of his tale, but after reading the entire book it was clear to me that it was easier to read it knowing there indeed was a light at the end of the dark tunnel. This horrific account of extreme abuse leaves us with a great number of questions which unfortunately we do not have answers for....   [tags: Dave Pelzer]

Music For Torching by A.M. Holmes Essay

- Music For Torching by A.M. Holmes A.M. Holmes’ critique of the American dream’s malfunction in modern suburbia examines contemporary domestic life through a variety of socially realistic metaphors. No metaphor is a stronger critic of the dark domestic world she presents than the recurring theme of clothing as a mask which her characters use to hide their true identities. The novel focuses on the importance of “socially acceptable” clothing as an expression of each character’s overall desire to reach a state of normalcy, if not perfection....   [tags: Music Torching Holmes Essays]

- Dave Speaks to the World When I was back home and lived with my mom, we were reading the paper together one day, she was reading the Tropic and I, the comics. When she was through with the Dave Barry column, she gasped and said out loud, "I know that shark!" Now, of course this startled me and I wondered what on earth she meant. A Child Called It, The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave Essay

- For this report, I have read all three of Dave Pelzer's books about his life: A Child Called “It”, The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave. A Child Called “It” chronicles Dave's life as a child, and is told from that viewpoint. From his earliest recollections of a relatively happy life with "the Mommy" to his life and death struggle with "The Mother", this book details the horror of Dave’s dehumanizing existence. Going far beyond “typical” physical, emotional and psychological abuses, Dave’s story tells of intentional starvation, forced coprophagia, poisoning and much more....   [tags: Dave Pelzer]

3 STEPS TO A GREAT COVER LETTER

A cover letter is important because it is the first thing the manager sees. You have to make a connection so your cover letter stands out. The three basic parts to making a connection are to draft a strong opening paragraph, show your personality, and target your audience.
A strong opening sentence and paragraph are crucial to capture the manager’s interest. Remember to state why you are qualified for the job, and state how you can benefit the company. A friendly informal paragraph will work well if you are applying to a small company. A more formal, professional tone would work better for a large firm or corporation.
Your writing style should reflect your personality. Your employer needs to see who you are and what you value. Pick some of your best accomplishments or abilities, and highlight them in your letter.
You want the manager to know that you are great for the job, so it is important to take the time to learn about their mission, products, and they goals for the future. Always address the cover letter to a specific person, and make sure your cover letter is easy to read and professional looking.

RESUME RUNDOWN

It is necessary that your resume makes a positive first impression. If you are a recent high school graduate, a one page resume should work, but don’t be afraid to do more, especially if you have some work or volunteer experience. There are three common types of resumes; chronological, functional, and combination. A chronological resume calls attention to your employment history in reverse chronological order. A functional resume de-emphasizes positions, job descriptions, and employment dates. A combination resume is a mix of the two formats.
Depending on the font choice, the size should be somewhere between 9 and 11 point. Section headings can be larger, and the higher your level of responsibility, the more likely it is that you will use a serif font. Conservative use of lines, bolding, italics, and bullets can be very effective. They will help show the organization of your resume.
The final touches of writing a resume is to check the spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. A resume with errors is likely to be immediately discounted because they assume your job performance will be sloppy. Proofread your resume, and ask a friend or someone else to proofread it also.
