King James I was a devoted Christian who wanted the all common people to have their hands on the holy bible. Since King James was multi-lingual in, Greek, Latin, French, Italian, Spanish and English. He became the king of Scotland in 1556 at only thirteen months old and in 1603 acceded to the throne of England. At that point he combined Scotland and England the first to call it Great Britain. It is said that he also endured racism since he was Scottish but ruling over England but as a child he received his knowledge and education from Scottish tutors which he loved do much. The King had a devasting childhood since he was the only child and his mother, Mary Queen of the Scots, was placed in prison in 1567 for 19 years then executed in 1587 and also in 1567 his father was murdered. It is said that in 156 Mary had to give up her throne because she was defeated by rebels. This was after James’ father, Lord Henry Barnley was killed in an unexplained explosion at his house. Many claimed the King James was a bitter enemy of the Catholic religion. He always tried to extend his protestant religion to the entire island. It is also said that the Roman clerics tried to kill him more then once since was born at the time of the reformation. Because of the changing conditions, another official revision of the Protestant Bible in English was needed. The reign of Queen Elizabeth imposed the uniformity upon the church. In a conference of churchmen it was requested that the Bible be revised because existing translation were corrupt and not answerable to the truth.
Robert Frost is an iconic poet. One of his most well-known poem is titled “The Road Not Taken”. This poem is about the narrator monologue about his travels and choices he faced. It opens up with the view with a fork in the road where two roads take different routes. The narrator must choose which road he will take. The narrator describes his setting vividly of the woods that he is traveling in and the choices he must make, such as “Yet knowing how way leads on to way, / I doubted if I should ever come back.” (14-15). The roads are not only literal choices, but also figurative choices. As they represent all life choices one must make in their lifetime. Frost uses multiple elements within his poem to bring the meaning of it to the reader’s attention. This poem is a metaphor for the choices people must make in their lives and how those choices impact their lives forever.
... finally executed for all the drama and problems in her life that she created. Some of this drama included, her getting married to Henry and then Henry murdered her best friend. Mary then blew up Henry’s house, and finally Mary tried to kill Elizabeth, the Queen of England. No matter what Mary did, it created excitement and drama but it unfortunately killed her.
Under the reign of Elizabeth I, England enjoyed a period of religious toleration. However, near the end of her reign, a growing religious minority, the Puritans, became increasingly critical of her policies, believing that she was still too close to Catholicism. These grievances were magnified when Elizabeth's successor, James I, a devout Anglican, proved to be far less tolerant and tactful. Furthermore, James was accused of abusing his royal authority by attempting to undermine Parliament. The growing tension between Anglicans and Puritans worsened under James' son, Charles I, who repeatedly angered a Parliament in which the House of Commons had gained a significant Puritan influence. In response, the Puritans, led by Oliver Cromwell, called for a reformation of the church, including the abolition of the Anglican Book of Common Prayer and a ban on bishops voting in the House of Lords. When Charles attempted to dispel the situation by arresting five Commons leaders, loyalties in the country split and the English Civil War began.
In the beginning of the poem the narrator hesitates at the fork in the road before continuing on with his journey as he does not know which road to take. We see that a decision has to be made as the narrator says he is “sorry [he] could not travel both,” (line 2). So he waits for a while to weigh his options.
A common quote is “nobody can judge a book by its cover”. America has experienced terrorist attacks from many different types of immigrants. Thus, people can only assume all people from outside of the United States are labeled terrorist based on the actions made by others. Most people are not aware that terrorists are already in America and has grown up here. People think immigrants will have diseases that will spread to them. The solution would be before the immigrants come over to get tested for diseases to keep from spreading to others. Another thought passed through America’s mind is that immigrants are stealing jobs from American people. Citizens have doubts about having a stable job to attend each day or getting paid. When immigrants come to the United States, individuals worry that immigrants will take their jobs because they are willing to do any work for less money and without complaining. The immigrants coming over only have limited amount of money and do not have an education. These immigrants are only getting jobs that many people will not want to do because it could be back breaking work or little pay. Immigrants are not stealing jobs; they need money just like everyone else to survive and to support a
Shakespeare was very wise and wasted no time to flatter the king he Macbeth, the Scottish play, which contains witches (a fascination of James'), Scotland (of course), Banquo (who is an ancestor of James') and themes of guilt and conscious (which was another area of great interest to James).
Social justice is advocating for all people to be entitled to their human rights. It is a view that everyone deserves equal economic, political, social and educational opportunities. In the United States, everyone does not have equal opportunities and are treated fairly, which leads to the different civil rights movements and reform efforts. A social justice issue that does not receive a lot of attention is that children in the U.S do not have equal educational opportunities. Typically, geographic location determines if a child would receive a high quality education. A high quality education would involve a strong vision and leadership, ambitious standards and effective teachers and principals (Stewart, 2012). Unfortunately, all
Pressing for action, Protestant reformers sought out Parliament for the safest recourse. For the first time in England, Edward VI’s reign had brought about the formation of Protestantism with changes that involved the abolishment of clerical celibacy, Mass and the obligation of required religious services in English. Following Edward VI’s death, just six years later, his half-sister Mary took over the throne. With her strong beliefs in papal supremacy, Mary made an effort to put an end to the corruptness her brother had brought about for the Catholic Church. Had Mary lived longer, the reestablishment of the Catholic Church might have been successful, leaving Edward’s reign, rather than hers, as a historical
While walking in the forest, the speaker recalls approaching “two roads diverged in a yellow wood”. One would never think that while taking a scroll, they would come to such a critical moment in their life. A fork in the road, both are equally worn and they are equally leaf-covered. Leaves the traveler to make an important decision regarding which path to take. Left or Right? Knowing that only one path can be traveled, the narrator is wary with his decision “long I stood | and looked down one as far as I could | to where it bent in the undergrowth” (lines 3-5). After careful consideration, the traveler choses to take the road less traveled. The roads symbolize the choices that one may face during their journey of life. This could lead one to believe the traveler is somewhat adventures or the traveler lied about taking the road less traveled.
Mead expressed that there are three types of cultures, labeled as postfigurative, configurative and prefigurative, which explain the culture in which we are living in today society. Postfigurative cultures are based on the cultures of the past in which the older people
Above all, 'The Road Not Taken'; can truly be interpreted through much symbolism as a clear-sighted representation of two fair choices. The two roads in the poem, although, 'diverging,'; lead in different directions. At the beginning they appear to be somewhat similar, but is apparent that miles away they will grow farther and farther away from each other. Similar to many choices faced in life. It is impossible to foresee the consequences of most major decisions we make and it is often necessary to make these decisions based on a little more than examining which choice 'wanted wear.'; In
“The Road Not Taken” examines the struggles people run into when they come to a place in their life where a life altering decisions has to be made. The man who is described in this poem is traveling when he comes upon “two roads diverged” (1). He then has to choose which path he will take to continue on his journey. After standing at the diversion for a while, he knows he has to make a final decision. One path was worn down and “bent in the undergrowth” (5), so he took the other path, which was described as “perhaps the better claim/ Because it was grassy and wanted wear” (6-7). The man of the poem begins to ponder about a time when he will be telling his story of the path he took. Although we are not sure if the man regrets his decision or is relieved, he lets us know taking the road less traveled “has made all the difference” (20).
In the first stanza, the speaker creates an image in the reader’s mind by saying “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood” (Line 1). By saying the color yellow, the reader is now thinking it is probably Fall. The reader also knows the speaker is at a fork in the road, by the word diverged. As the reader continues on, they would learn that the speaker is sorry he cannot take both paths. At the conclusion of the stanza, the speaker looks down the one of the paths as far as he can see and notices there is a bend in the
