Recommended: Hurricanes
Hurricanes are one of the deadliest and most expensive natural disasters around. They are more common in areas of humid yet moist weather so they are very foreign to certain places. But to the places were hurricanes are the norm, the people take them extremely seriously because they kill people and ruin countless amounts of property. Hurricanes can attack and harm people in so many ways they can kill people, leave them homeless, it leaves children orphaned and disable them. On the west coast of the United States and other places hurricanes aren’t taken as seriously as other more common disasters, such as, earthquakes and volcanoes yet the hurricane can be a lot more damaging that both of those. Hurricanes are cyclones that develop over warm oceans and breed winds that blow yup to 74 miles per hour.
In the hurricane the mixture of the water and winds can be extremely damaging. The winds are extremely dangerous and usually don’t go faster than about 75 miles per hour but have been documented to go as fast as 85 miles per hour. Due to the fact that hurricanes need water to survive they cannot go too far on land, but that does not stop them from causing billions of dollars in damages. Hurricanes are so dangerous that they were listed number 1 on the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Hazard and Disasters list.
Picture this, you laying on top of you car as you are being violently slung down your street, which was once dry and calm and is now wet and foreign, at an extremely rapid pace. You can’t find your family and all you can do is hope that they haven’t drowned and are able to stay afloat against the violent waters that are angrily attempting to destroy everything in its path. You look around the weather is gray and it’s raining heavily. It is a struggle to breathe between the rapid rain and the violent waters which are attempting to pull you under, forever. Your house no longer exists it is broken down from the pounding waters and fast winds. That is exactly what it would be like if you were in the midst of a hurricane. After hurricanes are over the confusion is crazy, children who had loving families are now orphaned, people become homeless, and people miss certain joys such as walking due to becoming paralyzed.
The man who she was with was about to eat an elephant ear, which is fried dough. A harsh comment of, “you don’t need to eat that” (P. 221) was mutter towards the guy. This gets her questioning who really needs to eat an elephant ear, what gives a person the right to dictate whether or not someone needs to east something or if a skinnier person were to eat the fried food, would it be any beneficial? It isn’t until paragraph 3 where we start to see the sarcastic approach to her main point by stating that she has “never been discriminated against”. She uses the phrase, “I have never” several times implying that she indeed has experience all of the things that she’s denying. People think that just because she’s a white middle class woman that she’s never been discriminated against. That’s another reason why she uses the phrases “I have never” many time throughout this essay. “I have never been called crude names, like, “fatso” or “lard-bucket”. . . My nickname on the school bus was never “Bismarck”, as the famous battleship.” (P. 222) This quote implies that she has been called these names before and it obviously had some sort of impact on her life. I see this as using sarcasm to mask the fact that she was is and fed up with the way society views plus sized
A hurricane is easily the most powerful storm that mother-nature can throw at us. Every year people who live on the coasts fight hurricanes with no dismay. A hurricane is simply too strong. Their winds reach speeds of 75 mph. The winds around the eye wall can reach 130 to 150 mph. They are 200 to 300 miles in diameter. The number of casualties is endless, as well as the widespread destruction that takes millions of dollars to repair. Even if the hurricane doesn’t cause a lot of damage, the storm surge will. Storm surge is the great tidal waves that crash into our coasts and make huge floods that are caused by hurricanes.
Hercules, the son of the Greek god Zeus and mortal Alcmene, was one of the most famous hero in Greek mythology. He is known for his super strength and his many adventures he went on. When Hercules was born, Hera became furious that her husband had sired another child with a mortal. Hera punished Hercules by putting a spell on him that made him mad. While Hercules was under the spell, he slaughtered his own wife and six kids. After Hercules’s sanity returned, he deeply regretted the actions that he had taken. To pay for the crimes of murder that he had committed, Hercules was sent to the land Tyrin, where he was sentenced to perform 12 years of labors that were assigned to him.
Hercules, or known in Latin as Heracles, was the greatest of the Greek heroes, a paragon of masculinity. In art Hercules was portrayed as a powerful, muscular man wearing lion's skin and armed with a huge club. He was also described as being a macho man buffoon, who was very impulsive. Hercules’ home and birthing place is in Thebes, Greece. Thebes is a city in central Greece. It plays as an important setting in many Greek myths, such as the stories of Cadmus, Oedipus, Dionysus and many other important roles in Greek Mythology. The demigod, Hercules has an interesting origin, he is most famous for his 12 labors, and leaves a legacy in words and expressions.
When a storm strikes, the aftermath of destruction that it leaves behind can be absolutely horrific. A hurricane can destroy houses, cars, towns, cities, and sometimes even states. A hurricane can cause fatalities, millions and millions of dollars in damages, but most important, in just a couple of hours, a hurricane can change your life for good. So what is a hurricane? According to NASA, hurricanes are simply just a large swirling storm. (Knows!) Such a basic definition for such a destructive event. When you think about just a large swirling storm you generally don’t come to think about a hurricane or even a tropical storm. However, hurricanes can produce winds speeds of over 160 mph and can unleash more than 2.4 trillion gallons of rain a day. The title, “Hurricane” does not apply everywhere in the world. In northern India and Bay of Bengal they are known as cyclones. In the western Pacific Ocean they are known as typhoons.
Most of my knowledge of hurricanes has come from Hurricane Katrina and the devastation I saw portrayed on the news. My other source is from a family-friend who lives in Florida who has had to endure a hurricane or two. Hurricanes are amazing at inflicting pain, poverty, filth, and illnesses on communities. They are a great way to spread pollution with all the debris. With all the houses, vehicles, and other massive objects hurricanes plow over, it is easy for them to be ruined then dumped miles away. Hurricanes not only bring man-made materials from here to there, but also bring plants or animals from the ocean into the mainland. Flooded streets may become the new home to poisonous snakes or dangerous fish or sharks. There are infinitely possibilities of being bitten, drown, or undiscovered. Hurricanes are brutal and violent natural disasters to endure and can be deadly in many cases.
In order for us to understand what he meant by using Hercules' name and amount of background would need to be known.
Cheating is never a healthy sign, even if it is not their intention to do it. Cheating takes time to to rebuild the connection, but it is possible
Monetary incentives is a great way to motivate employees to produce outstanding work performance. What better way to influence employees to do their best than by offering them extra cash. Not only does the employee get rewarded but the company is able to increase productivity. Monetary incentives not only increase employees productivity, it can also improve attitudes therefore
Hurricanes are powerful and destructive storms that involve great rain and wind. The United States of America has dealt with many hurricanes that have cost a great amount of damage. However, there is one hurricane that happened in 2005 that stands out among the others, Hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst hurricanes to hit the United States, a category 5 on the Saffir/Simpson Hurricane Scale. An estimated 1836 people died because of the hurricane and the floodings that happened after (Zimmermann 1). Katrina initially beg...
...e “ The reward system of the organisation guides the actions that generally have the greatest impact on the motivation and performance of individual employees”. Similarly, Wah (2000) argues that companies which treat their high-performing employees significantly better than those that don't are the best-performing companies around and they reside in the upper quartile of shareholder returns. In addition Lawler (as cited in, Readings In Contemporary Employment Relations, 1998) states that if all the psychological rewards are removed employees will grudgingly remain at work, however if all the financial rewards are removed they would most likely leave.
Cheating, no matter how innocent it may seem to be, is so destructive to relationships. The credibility of the cheater is shattered, and there may well be a permanent breakdown of trust. Out of fear and human weakness, a person may be tempted to seek refuge by cheating. That is the course of least resistance or mistaken kindness.
Management spends a huge amount of time to design incentive systems and schemes to motivate their workers and to ensure they work in their best possible manner. Motivating workers by giving them decent pay helps in winning employees heart to make the work done efficiently, significantly and effectively. The most effective way to motivate people to work productively is through individual incentive compensation (Pfeffer, 1998). An attraction of getting more is a powerful incentive to people for high performance. While most people agree that money plays a major role in motivating people, in organizations there is a widespread belief that money may also have some undesirable effects on morale.
Going back to a few decades ago, when an affair occurred in a marriage, couples were more likely to resolve their issue to overcome infidelity. They put more effort into working through issues instead of immediately throwing in the towel. Now flash forward. In today's society an affair is “ a death by a thousand cuts” (Perel). What does that mean? When a partner in a relationship makes the decision to be unfaithful, it hurts the significant other to the point that they lose their self- identity. The partner may start to question who they are or what they believe. They'll start to blame themselves for their significant other cheating. Saying they aren't good enough for that person or that they haven't been doing enough to ensure their happiness. When in reality it's no ones fault for the cheating except for the cheater. No matter how hard times get, couples made a promise to one another and working through their issues is the priority. You should always work through their issues before resorting to other options. The moral option would be to end the relationship before starting up a new
People say cheating has so many forms, but the worst one would be cheating in a relationship. A cheater is someone who cheats on his partner; someone who systematically betrays his partner either on a physical or emotional level. About a week ago I thought cheating was okay, but now I realize the harm it could cause to their significant other. True love doesn’t hurt, true love protects, and cares. Cheating can cause someone to have a mental break down, and leads to a complete loss of respect. When it comes to relationships, remaining faithful is never an option; loyalty is everything.
