My objectives for returning to school are to fulfill my personal and business goals by increasing my knowledge and gaining skills to become an asset to my company and family. I need the challenge and stimulation that learning offers me to enhance my self- esteem, which will enable me to handle conflict in the workplace. My main goal for increasing my knowledge base is to make a difference in the lives of others. Financial stability is also important aspect when making the decision to return to school.
Education is a tool to achieve many goals. Learning gives me the challenge I need for self – enrichment and to expand my awareness by helping me understand the corporate world. It will also enhance my self-esteem and bestow pride in what I have accomplished. Someone told me once that ‘Knowledge is something that can not be taken away from you.’
Financial stability is a factor for gaining more skills that will help me become more marketable in the workplace. By increasing my knowledge base it will benefit me in obtaining a promotion. Being a single mother with two children has been very demanding and my expectations for providing for them is essential.
One of my main skills that I need to obtain is to learn how to handle conflict. Conflict is a difficult subject for me to deal with. I hate confrontation and have a hard time adapting to those types of situations. My way of dealing with confrontation is by not dealing with it at all. It’s not that I am fearful, but I can’t understand why some people are unable to be a
The Implementation Committee must clearly identify the desired results for this project. The ultimate goal is to improve customer satisfaction as a result of the leader adoption of the rounding process and timely identification and resolution to patient issues. In order to do this, nurse leaders must adopt and be held accountable to the Orchid technology and standardized rounding script. This process will improve efficiency of rounding, recording and reporting process. Meanwhile this robust reporting will identify, track and trend data collected during the reporting.
The action in the entire story surrounds and normally begins with something the grandmother has said or done. At the very beginning of the story, she starts off by stating that she does not want to go to Florida. She would rather go to east Tennessee and tried anything she could to change Bailey?s mind (Page 426). Later in the story, as they began the trip to Florida, the grandmother talked the entire time. She would tell stories of her youth to the grandchildren and lecture them about being more respectful to their native state, and to their parents. Although the grandmother is the protagonist, it is her fault that the trip ended in the devastating way that it did. She, unknowingly, led her entire family to their fate. She is even more responsible for the deaths because of what she brought on the trip with her. If there had been no cat, there would have not been an accident. If the accident would not have happened, the family had an extremely good chance to survive their vacation.
Not long after being on the dirt road the grandmother recalls a “…horrible thought…” that sent shock waves through her feet scaring “… Pity Sing the cat [, and causing it to] spr[ing] onto Baileys shoulder”(O’connor.428). Bailey not long after loses control of the car and crashes them into a ditch flipping the car a couple times. The author noting that “The horrible thought she had had before the accident was that the house she had remembered so vividly was not in Georgia but in Tennessee”(O’connor.428). The authors insight on the grandmother allows the reader to fully understand the grandmothers selfishness and inability to admit she was ever wrong in anything she did. It is not long after the foreshadowing catches up to the helpless family stranded in the midst of nowhere as a strange car slowly approaches them with three men in it. The grandmothers outspokenness is once again continued as she made it vocally known that she recognizes the misfit as one of the men. It is at that moment the misfit says “…it would have been better for all of you, lady, if you hadn 't of reckernized me”(O’connor.429). The reader can conclude the fate of the family at this point and lay blame everything that has happened on the grandmother. Soon after killing the rest of her family the grandmothers social order begins to vividly and rapidly change as she tells the misfit to “pray” and even tells him “…you’re one of my babies. You 're one of my own children”(O’connor.432-433). The reader can now see the grandmothers transformation as she lives the last couple minutes of her life she talks about Jesus, and even considering the misfit to be a “…good man at heart”(O’connor.430). Not long after the grand mother is shot through her chest several times and is carried into the woods and placed next to the rest of her
“In A Good Man Is Hard To Find “ Flannery O’Connor utilizes symbolism to give more meaning to her short story. O’Connor describes a story about the Grandmother vs. the Misfit, or in other words good vs. evil. This story is about a family that is on there way to Florida, but unfortunately that takes a wrong turn down a dirt road, which ends up causing them to get in an accident, and is caught by the Misfit. This confront prevented the family from ever arriving in Florida, because the Misfit just ends up killing every last single one of them. O’Connor uses symbolism by creating a story with a lot of meaning to sky, trees, roads, grandmother, and other necessities to depict the continuous battle between good vs. evil.
Currently, in the United States, the federal minimum wage has been $7.25 for the past six years; however, in 1938 when it first became a law, it was only $0.25. In the United States the federal minimum wage has been raised 22 times since 1938 by a significant amount due to changes in the economy. Minimum wage was created to help America in poverty and consumer power purchasing, but studies have shown that minimum wage increases do not reduce poverty. By increasing the minimum wage, it “will lift some families out of poverty, while other low-skilled workers may lose their jobs, which reduces their income and drops their families into poverty” (Wilson 4). When increasing minimum wage low-skilled, workers living in poor families,
On April 4, 2016, California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill that would significantly raise the minimum wage for California workers. By 2022, California 's workers will receive a minimum wage of $15 per hour (Kurzweil, Anthony, Sara Welch, and Kareen Wynter). Brown signed this bill because employees cannot live above the poverty line if their minimum wage is not proportional to the cost of living (Scheiber, Noam, and Ian Lovett). The purpose of the minimum wage is to ensure that workers can provide essential amenities for themselves and their families. Many economists have been in a debate about this topic with mixed feelings, whether increasing the minimum wage would be a reasonable legislation or not. For most average American workers, at first, the idea of raising their salaries might make them feel thrilled and optimistic. However, increasing the minimum wage will have its pros and cons effect on the economy. Despite numerous of arguments from both sides, a compromise can be met regarding minimum wage.
In” A Good Man is Hard to Find” there are many factors that can be the theme. The theme can be about a family as a whole that lacks love for the grandmother, or about a family that goes on a trip that wound up having an accident, which puts them at the wrong place at the wrong time. Both of these themes are obvious to any reader, but it does not quite seem to match this author’s depth style way of writing. In a brief write up on Flannery O’Connor, it says “O’Connor is a moralist, she focuses an uncompromising moral eye on the violence and spiritual disorder of the world.” By knowing this about the author O’Connor we can look deeper into this story and find morals of two characters as the theme. The two characters are the Grandmother and the Misfit. Even though they are both different as night and day, they both have morals and stands by their morals no matter what.
Though the grandmother dies in the end, O’Connor’s use of foreshadowing, characterization, and a distinct point of view lead me to believe this is the beginning of a different life for The Misfit. After he kills the grandmother The Misfit immediately starts cleaning his glasses, an indication that he sees the world in a different way. He had originally thought there was no pleasure in anything but cruelty, eventually the Misfit decides “It’s no real pleasure in life.” He had wanted to see Jesus raise the dead more than anything, and The Misfit ultimately got his wish; the grandmother had a last minute relief from her unbearable pomposity and then died, presumably redeemed. And the Misfit finds a glimpse of human empathy and compassion from the last woman we would have expected it from.
In" A Good Man is Hard to Find" there are a variety of themes. The themes in this short story are: the grace of the grandmother and The Misfit, the vague definition of a “good man”, and the class of the grandmother. All of these themes are apparent to any reader, but it does not quite seem to match O’Connor’s depth style way of writing. The two characters, the Grandmother and the Misfit change from beginning to end. Even though they are both different as night and day, they both have principles and stand by their principles no matter what the circumstance.
Since the beginning of the story, the readers have come to known the grandmother as a spiteful old lady due to her repulsive and deceitful attitudes toward others. Right from the start, we can see the grandmother using her manipulative tactics on her family. “The grandmother didn't want to go to Florida. She wanted to visit some of her connections in east Tennessee and she was seizing at every chance to change Bailey's mind.” (O’Connor 1) This initial quote shows an early indication that the grandmother is determined to obtain whatever she wants and will not allow anything to get in her way, even if it means manipulating her own family. This line already suggests that the grandmother may have sly motives concealed in her mind. “Here this fellow that calls himself The Misfit is a loose from the Federal Pen a...
My financial situation has not been the most stable throughout my post-secondary education. At the moment I have a part time job while I am at school. Having a job while I am at school does effect my performance, however I am still able to do very well. Over the course of my post-secondary education, my financial situation had become so severe that I was not sure if I should even complete school. Gladly, I am still in school and am working towards my goal however, things are not yet that bright financially.
Returning to school was a huge step in my personal and professional life. I very strongly encourage my children to get a secondary education and I wanted to lead them by example. I want them to see that hard work pays of and it is never too late. I also have many goals I want to achieve in my career, and getting a degree will make many of those goals within reach. By having a degree it puts me in a position to be qualified for career advancement. Knowledge is power, therefore, we should always strive to learn and grow.

Financial Stability. According to Goodhart (2006), financial stability has proved difficult to comprehend, mainly because there is no one accepted definition of what financial stability means. However, a vast national study by the United Way Worldwide identified two critical components that must exist in order for families to attain financial stability: stable adequate income and stable adequate financial resources (Valley of the Sun United Way, n.d.). Moreover, a report from the Corporation for a Skilled Workforce and United Way Worldwide (2011) stated that financial stability is achieved when families obtain sufficient resources via jobs that render enough income to sustain their daily necessities. Consequently, the main goal of financial stability is to increase the
... education? Education serves very minimal purpose if not used to further an individual’s knowledge. Knowledge allows us to apply what we have learned through interactions to education, revoking the concept of banking. Memorization does no good and by developing a cumulative education, we will become reinvented individuals, developing a curiosity for knowledge and insight. As society develops, we must change our educational systems so that the students are not dependent upon the teachers or parents and have educational aspirations and standards of their own. Students should not live up to the expectations of others, but to the expectations that they themselves hold. By creating this independency amongst the students, they will be nurtured by their own determination, leading to a truly educational environment where the students are striving to reach their own goals.
