An educator means that you are someone who cares and wants to see children be successful in your class and in their futures. The reason I want to become an educator is to make a difference in a child's life. I have worked with children for over seven years and everyday I spend with a child I learn someone new, about them and about myself. I want to give back to the community in which I was raised. I want to show them that they have helped make me become what I am today. A teacher can make a difference in a child's life to the good or bad if they went into the field for the wrong reason. I want to be remembered for the one who helped and made a difference a child?s life and also as good role model.
In my classroom I would like to arrange the desk in a semi-circle and I want a sit at the head of the circle and than the circle will be complete. That way I will be able to see all of the children faces when involved in class discussion or in-group activities. This will show the students that I am equal and no one is better or less than the other. I still want my students to see me as the teacher and not a playmate when it comes to learning and see that I am in control of the class not them. I want them to be able to express what they are feeling and not be afraid that someone is going to put them down. On my bulletin boards I want to place work and coloring pictures that the students have brought in or did in class. I want to work with every student not just a selected few. I do not want to leave anyone out; I want them to be proud of their work. I would also like to have bulletin board with an historical theme such as up coming holidays, where the students can go and learn through different fun activities like coloring pages and information sheets that are on the board.

Discipline and management is very important in a classroom. I tend to more of an idealistic when it comes to these areas. On the other hand, the experimentalism allows students to do hands-on activities and idealism allows them to seek the truth in different activities. I would like to have my classroom organized. The children would have all of the extra materials and the things they are not using to be put away in an orderly fashion where they are not at eyes view. This way the children will not be as distracted and can be focused on the assignments they are working on.
Some children need to have a reason to do well and others will do well just because they want to. For those who need motivation I will allow them to earn points for their behavior, attitudes, and willingness within the class. At the end of the week, I will let them choose to watch a movie, if the class does well and if only a few, then let them choose out of prize box or free snack on Friday. Positive reinforcement will let the children see the hard work and positive attitudes that they have had all week is appreciated.
I think that discipline should be handled within the classroom as much as possible; these ideals are from an idealist point of view. If there is a student who acts up or does something wrong I want to talk to them and ask why they did it and I want them to tell me what they did. I just do not want to jump to a conclusion and assume the worst. The student may not know they did something wrong. I want them to know I will help and give them a chance to become a better person and try to help them achieve that better person. It would give us both something to work towards.
I want to teach on their level, not stand up in front of the class and just lecture to them. I want to be able to sit down with them and let them know I am human and not better then they are. I am there if they ever need me, even if they have left my class. I want to lead a good life at school and in the community. I want to teach them to be good citizens. So that if they were to see me outside of school they would only have good thoughts about me. If they respect me at all times it will be easier for me to reach them inside of the classroom. I want to be a role model for them, someone who will help them be a better person and to teach them they can be anything they want as long as they try their hardest.
I think that the requirements for education need to change with time. If we still taught like they did in the nineteenth centuries where would we be? I think sometimes we need to focus more on science than other subjects and other times more on math. It will just depend what is going in the world at that time. As an educator, I would teach everything but I would focus more on what would help the children in their future. Such as if you live in a community where farming is big then I would teach them problem solving and in a city then I would teach them how to be a good businessman/woman. I would teach them how to survive in the world they would be living in. I understand that some will move outside of where they grew up and we also need to get them ready for the rest of the world also. We are there to teach but, each day in a classroom we help the children get ready for the future. We are helping them realize what they want to become and even what they do not want. We have control of the children that are in our class and we have to decide if we are going to be role models or just someone who pushes them to the next teacher to deal with. I want to be a role model and encourage children to do their best and do their all because what they do today will play a part on their future.
