My Biggest Adventure
To start off my story I was born and raised in the same city my entire life. I grew up in the same neighborhood and even the same house, never to fully experience the sensation of moving into a new house or having to make new friends at a different school. Some may say I was lucky I never had to move, but deep down in my heart I always wanted to be that new kid and feel see what it feels like. Worst of all, my schools I had attended were only about ten minutes away from my house; all of them. School never really was one of my interests and because of that I never really studied and did homework in class instead of listening to my teachers. I just did enough to graduate from my high school and do it with grades I thought were acceptable. And of course they were acceptable enough for an acceptance letter from my first choice school, Northern Arizona University.
Before I knew it, I had graduated from high school and I was preparing myself for my journey to college. I had no idea what to expect from the people and the life style I was about to encounter. One part of me felt sad that I was going to leave a lifestyle that I had become so accustomed to, while another part of me felt relieved that I was finally going to be on my own and have a freedom I have not experienced before. Finally my summer had come to end and I was packing my car for the long journey ahead of me and a new chapter in the book of my life. I started to think about all those things I was leaving behind and those things that were ahead of me. I knew that my life was about to change dramatically; I was going to be living on my own in a new environment not knowing a single person or having someone to hang out with.
Out of everything that is different in Flagstaff I would have to say that the weather is the most noticeable. In Southern California the weather is the most neutral compared to the rest of the United States. We have sunny warm days all year long so in a way one could say that it is summer all year long.

I spent much of my high school career researching colleges and universities. My mom and I traveled to well over 10 different colleges and universities in 4 different states trying to find the “perfect” school for me. By the end of my junior year of high school I had finally found the ideal school, or so I thought. The school was small, environmentally friendly, new, beautiful, diverse, and just happened to be located 1,000 miles away from home. Everyone at my small high school knew that I was going away to school and it was a huge deal because the majority of my classmates were going to in state schools. I traveled to the school multiple times for orientations, to meet my roommates, and to make sure it was the “perfect” school for me. Early May of my senior year of high school, right before graduation, I woke up with a feeling in my gut that this
National economics are often adversarial in nature, a global contest where countries seek to gain advantage over their neighbors, all in the name of wealth and gain. America is no stranger to the game; the U.S. has been the world’s economic leader for the better part of a century. China, however, is the leading contender for the economic top-spot (), and America continues playing directly into China’s hand. America’s current trading posture with China is drastically skewed in China’s favor; if America is going to preserve its position as the leading economic power, existing U.S.-Chinese trading agreements will need to be revised, and additional regulations must be introduced to promote balanced dealing.
My entire life I have always been viewed as the black sheep of my family, and out of 14 grandkids, I was always the one that nobody ever thought would amount to anything. My father was a high school dropout, and everyone assumed that I would be an alcoholic drop out, just like him. I never had a wonderful childhood where everything was laid before me to choose from; instead, I have had to fight and scrap for every little bit of approval from everyone in my family, and my peers. All of my Aunts were school teachers, and my Uncle was a chemical engineer, and they were able to send their kids to college as soon as they graduated from high school. It has taken me almost a decade to be able to send myself. I was never able to achieve good grades when I was young. I tried and tried to make good grades, but trying on your own with no help can be like the blind leading the blind. I had almost given up all hope before I came to Lone Star College, but my experience at LSC saved me; there is no better way to say it. My time as a student here has instilled a refreshing sense of pride and...
The day I moved away, a lot of things were going through my young mind. As I took my last look at my home, I remembered all the fun times I had with my family and friends through out my life. Now I was moving 800 miles away from all of that with no insight on what lied ahead for me. As my family and I drove away from our Michigan home, I looked out the window wondering what Virginia would be, and what my friends were doing. A lot of things were going through my mind at the time. At the time my main worry was if I would make any friends, and how I would adjust to everything. During the whole drive down, my mother would often let me know that everything would be all right and I would like it. Trying to be strong and hold back my tears, I just shook my head no, wondering why we had to move so far away. Life would be different for me and I knew it would.
China has been the fastest growing economy in the last thirty years. Its contributions to the global economic growth are substantial. China is the second largest exporter and holds the largest foreign currency reserve in hand. China's account surplus reached 11% of its GDP as of 2008. All of these successful and positive economic indicators increased the global expectations of China. Even though China was extremely responsive in its own borders, during the 2008 G2 submit, China displayed very low-key appearance in front of the world. Moreover, China was still artificially devaluating its currency to sustain its trade surplus, and increasing unnecessary tax cut/incentives on a large number of goods to encourage the exports to be more competitive in pricing. China’s policies were the great indicators that it did not display enough effort to show its global leadership role.
While I wish finding my way around the school was my only problem, I was faced with some internal challenges. As the school year started, my friends slowly started to leave to these “big shot” colleges or simply move away to other community colleges. I, too, wanted the complete “college experience” somewhere in Arizona or across the country; yet I felt stuck and unaccomplished. I also felt jealousy which could have been because I did not get to decorate my dorm room. While talking about dedicating hard work to your education, Gina Rodriguez said “Just remember, during those times of fear and doubt, that you are right now discovering your true strength.” And in those times of doubt, I reminded myself why I could not just move and leave everything behind. The root of my challenges and concerns are my family. As I enrolled as a full time student, my family was fighting some financial problems which created marriage troubles for my parents. I could not leave at a time like this. I knew it was not the first time my parents were talking divorce but somehow I knew it was best to stay. I got financial aid from the school which saved me the fuss of asking my parents for money. It really meant so much to not put another worry on their
In 2001 China entered the WTO it has made major stride in the world economy especially with trade agreements with the biggest capitalist economy and the biggest GDP and most developed country in the world the United States of America which has nearly 2.3 trillion of exported goods and service in 2013 (President, n.d.) When China entered in the WTO it had become the sixth largest economy and the largest market trade and was slightly ahead of Italy and just behind France. “China is third largest trading partner with the U.S and its trade surplus with the U.S. has increased to $201 billion around 2005 and by 2014 the total China-U.S. trade deals was 591 billion”. (Morrison, 2015) It had a global current account of $160 billion around 2005 (Hufbauer, Wong, & Sheth, 2006). As of 2015 “China is the U. S’s second largest trading company and the third largest export company and its biggest source of import”. (Morrison, 2015) Sales from a foreign affiliated U.S. firms in China totaled at 364 billion by 2013. (Morrison, 2015). What is also amazing is that China has the biggest U.S. treasury bonds and that keeps U.S interest rate low. Between 2010 to 2014 General Motor sold more cars in the Chine’s market than in the U.S. market and many U.S. firms participate in Chinese market to stay globally competitive. (Morrison, 2015). This kind of
As the end of my senior year in high school approached, I had to make an important decision. What school was I going to spend the next few years of my life at? When the financial aid packages arrived, I was torn between two colleges. After sitting down with my mother and discussing the advantages and disadvantages of both schools, I came to my final decision. It seemed like a year ago I was imagining what college life would be like and suddenly before my eyes, I would be a college student in a matter of four months.
For over a decade, China’s economy has experienced some dynamic changes, especially with the transformation of their labor market. China’s entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001 was a significant event because it symbolized to the global community their country was a competitive trading par...
China has also expanded their trading industries with countries such as South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, ASEAN, India, Russia and Hong Kong. This has not satisfied the Chinese greed for income as they also export and import goods to American countries, name...
I woke up around noon, just like a regular Saturday, and took a shower then got dressed; only then did I realize that I was supposed to get my high school diploma that night. I did not really know what to think and I just sat at my desk for a long time thinking about what my life was going to be like in the next couple of years. I thought about living on my own, going to college, paying bills, and the scariest of all a job that I am supposed to do for the rest of my life; I was excited about all the new possibilities that were going to open up to me but I was scared about what the future actually held. I eventually started thinking about some worst-case scenarios, like all minds tend to

Ever since I was little I’ve been what you would call a “high achieving” kid. I did well in school, I did well in sports and I did well in my community. I was always the first one to class, and the last one to leave the field. I was the kid that all my friends’ parents compared their children to. I was the kid with a room full of trophies and awards. In my mind, the worst possible thing I could do was disappoint the people around me. In elementary school I was involved in every club imaginable. I was in the band, I played in the orchestra, I sang solos for chorus, I was in the math club, I was president of student council, I played travel soccer, I was involved in every activity possible, and I excelled in all of them. This
A new experience, a change from the norm, looking out for myself, and living on my own: for me this is college. The transition of high school student to college seemed immensely overwhelming and even a bit scary. The shift opened a can of worms and created challenges, both good and bad, behind every corner. Due to the change of scene, I am now dealing with the everyday acceptance of the greater world around me: the town, the people and my new life.
