Encourage Children to Follow Their Dreams
Philosophy Statement
After fourteen years of being scared of college, I decided to start my new journey in August of 2001. I wanted to go to college all by life to become a teacher, but I felt I needed to wait until my children were old enough to understand. Therefore, I pushed my dream back until one day it over whelmed me; I jumped in with both feet. I was so scared my first day, but over time, the fear went away and I am now fully focused on my dream. My husband and children have supported me with my decision; I could not have made it this far without them. I wanted to become an elementary teacher, but along the way, I found a new love—English. Therefore, I changed my major. I am counting the days until I have my own classroom.
I have been active with my children every since they were born. I have coached cheerleading for five years, and served as a team mom and cheerleading coordinator for two Little League teams. I am always at their school helping in one way or another. And I signed up to help with the Title I program. I can bring into my classroom my experiences with children. Many of these children have problems at home. I want to be able to identify these children and help them cope with these problems. Students today have to deal with issues that you and I did not have to when we were at that age.
I plan to work toward my Master’s in English after I graduate from Concord, but I do want to begin teaching immediately. I feel it is necessary to get into the classroom while I am excited and new with ideas. I want to start working more in my community with children. I would like to start a program to educate children about guidelines for a college education. They need to know there scholarships and financial aid available.
I would also like to help them with problems they are having at home, and show them that life is not all bad.
Looking back, I believe that the correct choice was made. Obviously, I cannot know for sure until I immerse myself in the waters of a full-time teaching position. Perhaps I will come to find that the field of education is not what I expected. Maybe I will be unable to get through to my students. Who knows—these are all possibilities. I think about these possibilities from time to time, and they always scare me. Devoting four years of my life to something only to fail at that pursuit would be devastating. Despite these fears, ...
have been a teacher's aide but never the teacher. My goal is to teach these children that they can
Since I graduated high school in 2009, I immediately went to El Camino Community College and earned my Associates Degree. Once entering California State University Dominguez Hills in 2013, I obtained a full time nanny position to an amazing family of two children, which allows me to focus on my schooling while still being able to work. From 2012 to 2016, I was volunteering in the Long Beach Unified School District as a VIP to get a feel for the classroom and to know what to expect when I become a teacher. In September 2016, I became a LBUSD Substitute Teacher and I have been enjoying it ever since because it has given me the opportunity to become a classroom teacher. Currently, I am in the last phase of the teaching credential program at Dominguez
As a young lady I have decided to become an early childhood education teacher. Throughout my high school years many of my friends have been thrilled to study a higher education level in college. The majority believe that being a teacher is not what I should do for the rest of my life because the income is not as immense as other careers. Many suppose that this job is simple, but in reality his job re...
After three years of resistance, my passion for learning and literature and my experiences as a student finally defeated my sensible plan. I decided it was not too late. I would become a teacher - truth be told, I already was.
Since I was a little girl I’ve always wanted to have my own classroom and teach kids. Most kids avoid school in all ways, but that is where I want to be for the rest of my life. After high school I am planning on furthering my education at a university to become a teacher myself. I’m majoring in Early Childhood Education (grades K-4) and also Special Education.
Most individuals can recall when they were very young saying, “When I grow up, I want to be a . . . ” For some people, over the course of growing up their ambitions changed several times. But for many, they ended up in a career which was a life long desire, goal, or ambition. Today, students must begin to think about their future on a more serious note than that of childhood during the latter part of their middle school years. This is during their eighth grade year usually, which is a year or two younger now than just a few years past. But, the reason for this is still the same. This will enable students to gear their education in a route which will hopefully benefit them after high school graduation or in their future. For some, these choices and decisions will never change. But for others, for various reasons, they may decide on a career change somewhere down the road or during the course of their life. As for myself, I definitely fall into the latter of the two mentioned. After working for years in the field of business (my first degree), I felt a desire and need for a career change. I wanted a more rewarding career. Personally I feel doctors and teachers have the most rewarding careers of any profession. Therefore, teaching became my goal and ambition for my career. Unlike most individuals, I was able to obtain first hand insight into my choice before returning to college to further my education in this area by substitute teaching on a permit for three years (based on my Bachelor of Science degree and six hours of graduate studies). During these three years, I obtained two long term positions, one for three semesters, and another for one semester. I spent the duration of my time...
I spent the whole night reading about the differences teachers make on student’s lives and how their hard work pays off in the eyes and minds of their students. The more I divulged in the books, the more I pictured myself leading the future of our community. From that day on, I was determined that teaching was going to be how I was going to spend the rest of life. I never knew that all I needed was for someone to see something in me as a student to affect my whole future and how I can possibly have that effect on future generations.
Growing up and having such a set career in mind, I knew who to follow around during my summers. Often tagging alongside my two aunts to their classrooms in Des Moines and Ankeny, I would help set up and take down the elementary classrooms. I loved having such a close connection and experience with the school system even when school was not in action. As a young child, I noticed everything, the way my aunt set up her library, charts, desks, and lesson plans, even down to the decor, I saw it all. I thought to myself, “Is this how I would teach and arrange things?” As I approach my graduation quickly and advance to my career training, I continue to collaborate new ideas for my future classroom. Not only did my family have a wonderful impact on my life to new opportunities at such a young age, all my elementary, intermediate, and high school teachers help in sharing their knowledge of teaching.
Taking an education journey at a college can take you in many paths. The path you choose or a path you have never even thought of. From graduating high school I had a mindset of going into the business field. It has been about 13 weeks into my first p’’semester and I found myself changing my degree/certificate to elementary education. I have chosen this career because I have always had a passion to teach as well work hands on with others. I did some research and found elementary education to be in my best interest, which was great kids and I get along perfect. In the past I have had many of my teachers would recommend me to teach but I always had a mindset of sticking with the business field. I have had experienced many teachers just teaching to teach, and having a teacher not be passionate about their job also affects the learning of the kids. I am passionate to see them be successful in the future and I am excited to go into a field where I will be able to shape and impact there early education lives.
College has consistently seemed miles away from ever happening, but suddenly it’s now only months away. Despite claiming we want to graduate, the thought of going off to college is nerve-wracking. For me, the nerves are alleviated by the thought of what I’ll be doing. For the last two years, I have known what I would study in college and do for the foreseeable future. I want to go to SUNY Fredonia to study Inclusive Childhood Education 1-6 with a middle school extension, concentrating in English. For me SUNY Fredonia offers the best experiences necessary for my degree, while letting me live away from home and learn how to be independent. Deciding to become a teacher, was never about finding a job where I would be rich, it was about taking my
I desire to continue my education after graduating from State College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, pursuing a master’s degree in elementary education, possibly majoring in science or history. With a teaching profession, the sky is the limit at what can be achieved. Who knows, I may one day change the life of a little person who grows up just like I did, and discovers that THEY TO CAN HAVE IT ALL! A family and a rewarding career in education.
When I was younger, college was never a blip on my radar. My academic goals never manifested themselves, and I was left to simply go through the motions of high school with nothing waiting for me at the finish line. After many years of kicking around different jobs, I have employment that I enjoy—my current job showed me the joys of working with children and the benefits of becoming a teacher. Armed with a clear direction for my education, I have enrolled in courses that suit my preferences. Thus far, I am thriving in all of my courses, and I am eager to continue into a more specific education degree program.
As an education major at State College, I’ve decided to become a teacher for several reasons. As I progressed through elementary, middle, and high school, many of my teachers were great role models for me. This has inspired me to become a role model for someone in the near future. My love for science and math has also influenced my desire to teach and make a difference in a child’s life. I want to teach students the subjects that I love so much. I want the feeling that I helped a child accomplish or learn something they couldn’t understand. One of the main reasons I want to become an educator is because I feel education has really lost teachers who truly love teaching and those who truly love teaching and those who have the desire to make a difference. I feel I can really help make a difference in the education world and bring back the love to teach.
After coming home from Burnaby North Secondary, I felt really happy with my decision of becoming a high school teacher. Standing in the English eleven classroom I felt an overwhelming feeling that this is the type of environment I
