The U.S Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) formed the Internet in 1973. The interknitting project "Internet" was a network connecting computers to each other so they could communicate amongst each other. However the public didn’t really "log on" until the end of 1991, with the population being 4,000,000.

With the Internet today, a person could find information about whatever he or she is looking for. This is good because it saves time. Before the Internet, when someone needed to find information, they had to get in their car and drive to the library. There they would spend a day looking for the right book and after that they were able to check it out for a week. But, when the week was up, the book had to be returned. Now, you just log onto a search engine, such as www.ask.com, and type in what you’re looking for.

The downfall of this is that children, among others are unable to understand the full impact of things. Everyone can find information on illegal things, such as building bombs and making drugs. The other thing about the information you can find on the Internet is that it isn’t so much as what you can find, its what other people can find out about you.

The Internet is used to bond people together. This is good because you can chat with long distance family members and friends free of charge. In addition to this, there are many different instant messengers services, such as ICQ and MSN, which make it possible for you to meet new friends with the same interests as you.

This to has a negative side to it as well. Often times, people say they’re someone that they’re not. For example, older men sometimes say they are younger so they can meet young girls in person. Unfortunately, when this happens, most of the time they rape and abduct the children.

There are also many entertaining sites on the Internet. You can do several things, such as learn a new joke, read stories, play games or find a new hobby. These are great things to help pass extra time. However, with the Internet it seems like there is twice as many negatively entertaining things on the Internet. Some of the many examples I found included 4.2 million websites on the Internet are pornography sites and gambling sites. That calculates out to be about 12% of total websites.

The Internet has had a massive impact on my life, with both its positive and negative aspects. I have met many new friends thanks to the Internet, because I can come off as somewhat shy in person. The Internet chat services help me become more outgoing. Another way the Internet has made an impact on me is by helping me with my homework assignments. I can email my teachers and ask for assistance or find a tutoring website for a particular subject. The Internet entertains me by the vast amount of games you can play or download for free, such as Pong. However, this can sometimes be a negative thing, because it can be very tempting to play games and explore instead of do homework or venture out into the “real world”. Finally, the Internet has helped me find a job by posting my resume on the Internet and looking for job openings in surrounding cities. I’m sure the Internet will continue to impact my life in a massive amount of different ways.
