Iago's Revenge in Othello
Iago has a large appetite for revenge. In his perspective, he believes
that it is he who should be in charge, not Othello the moor. This creates an
anger in Iago, who entraps Othello in a web of deceit. He does this through a
series of suggestions and hesitations that entice and implant images in
Othello's head that lead to his demise. But what is more important is that he
gives Othello the motive to murder innocent Desdemona. Iago is constantly like
a puppet master, pulling the strings of the people around him.
There are many instances in the play where Iago is left by himself. He
utilises these opportunities by telling his future plans to the audience. It
would seen that he likes talking to himself about himself, which suggests he has
much inner turmoil that he harbors close to his chest, but when the opportunity
arises, he describes his deeds with a passion. In the first of these monologues,
he makes his intentions perfectly clear. He implies that Othello has had an
affair with his wife by stating "I hate the moor, And it is thought abroad that
'twixt my sheets He's done my office". The irony of this statement is that in
the next line he says that he does not know it for a fact, but because he
suspects it, he will act as if for certain! This gives me the impression from
the beginning, that Iago is insane and exceedingly paranoid, going so far as to
set up a cache of murders, just on the suspicion of adultery.
Iago was also jealous of the open and loving relationship that Othello
had. When Othello and Desdemona are reunited after the journey to Cyprus, he
kisses her in full view of everyone. Iago treats his wife as an object and she
knows it. In Act three, Scene four, she tells Desdemona "They are but stomachs,
we are but food, and when they are full, they belch us".
In Iagos' racist mind, he views his superior, Othello, as being of an
inferior creed. He sees him as possessing an evil mind and soul, and having no
right to marry the very white and very naive Desdemona.

They also have social media pages on Facebook and Twitter, where they have a huge following. The Article, "Renovating Home Depot," describes how, since the arrival of the new Chief Executive, Robert Nardelli, the business strategy has shifted to a more militaristic style. In the beginning, Home Depot was a "decentralized, entrepreneurial" business, and now is switching to a different management style. Nardelli loves to hire ex-soldiers, and is perhaps using the armed services as a role model for the new business structure. Under Nardelli's leadership, Home Depot is becoming more centralized and the good financial reports following this are signs that it a good strategy (Grow 50).
Dating back to 449 B.C., Sparta and Athens always had an alliance, but as time grew that balance slowly began to fall as one felt threatened by another. Before any sight of unsteadiness the Spartans and Athenians had a bound partnership. Beginning after their domination of the Persian war, the two states slowly became aware of one another’s growing power. More time went by, and the Spartans began to grow conscious of the other states, feeling wary and paranoid around them (Fox, 170). No state was particularly to blame for the strain on their peace treaty, nor for the war, it came as the two states developed. Eventually the two states had clashed enough and declared war. Although the Spartans gave the Athenians a chance to back down and temporarily stall war, the two states would never be equal, their allies resented one another far too much. The growing urge for power was bound to take over sooner or later. Finally, after 7 years of uneasy tension, Sparta could wait no longer and declared war against Athens (Fox, 167). Although the Athenians and Spartans lived together in peace for so long, they existed in a fragile balance that was bound to eventually lead to war.

This is part of an unprecedented two billion dollar store expansion, which is the most aggressive expansion in the company’s fifty-five year history; thus, magnifying Lowe’s locality and customer convenience in the United Sates home improvement marketplace. In William Shakespeare’s Othello, unspoken fears of being an outsider and concerns about his public image contribute to the downfall of a tragic hero named Othello. Othello, a general in the Venetian army’s, final monologue reflects the importance of reputation and the conformity needed to fit his surroundings. He is seen as an outsider of the Venetian culture; he is frequently referred to as “the Moor” and is called an abundance of racial slurs by the Venice born natives. Although Othello never voices his internal struggle to feel accepted by the people around him, his image and physical appearance are some of major issues he faces. Even in the moments before he stabs himself, Othello is more concerned with the legacy he is leaving behind than with the death of his wife, Desdemona. Shakespeare uses Othello’s transformation from a heroic military soldier to a tragic figure to warn of the dangers of obsessing over one’s reputation and the need to feel accepted by society.
Othello is the Cultural Other in Venetian society, and while he is very learned, it is probable that he is not fully aware of the social and cultural mores that govern Venice. As a Moor, Othello was reared outside Venice, and thus remains separate and exoticized. Although a great military man, and accepted by the elite of Venice, there is still a foreign-ness to him. The characters in the play, for the most part, call Othello "the Moor" (1. 1. 37, 1. 1. 161, 1. 2. 56). By calling Othello "the Moor," his proper name is taken away and he is left as an object. He is only accepted because of his military prowess, and seems to be used almost as a commodity; he is sent to Cyprus, with little warning--almost at the whim of the Duke. It is only because he is valuable to Venice that he is not punished for marrying the white Desdemona; Brabantio's anger is a clear indication that miscegenation is not an acceptable practice. Therefore, being a stranger to Venetian society, even a vague inkling that he is only a body used to fight may lead to insecurity that only exacerbates the deep-seeded, pre-existing ...
The events that occur in the first half of Act 1 are all in anticipation of the lead character Othello who we are not immediately introduced too. We learn Iago’s name in the second line of the play and Roderigo’s soon after, but Othello is not mentioned by his name once. Instead he is referred to as ‘he’, ‘him’ and is frequently described as ‘the moor’ (1.1.58) he is also described as having ‘thick lips’ (1.1.67) and later as being a ‘Barbary horse’ (1.1.111) is continuously described by his critics, mainly Iago, as a ‘moor’, demonstrating Iago’s frequently concerning nature of race and also portraying Othello as something of an alien. From this reference we are able to immediately understand Iago’s true feelings and motives for Othello.
90) and “(For I fear Cassio with my night-cape too)” (2.1.301). According to Jonathan Lear, Iago exemplifies “a hatred that cannot be rationalized, an evil not based on reason” (Schapiro 483). Knowing he cannot support his claims, Iago still insists on revenge against the Moor, using Cassio to wreak said revenge; however, it is not because of a supposed infidelity with his wife that seeks revenge. His sole purpose is to get vengeance on not receiving a position he believes he earned, he would care nothing about Emilia having an affair. Iago’s envy of Cassio comes from his intolerance of Cassio and Othello’s relationship. He simply cannot handle Cassio being the Moor’s Lieutenant, while he has nothing-not the position he wants, not the power he craves, and not the woman he desires (Desdemona) (Segan 4). Iago also projects himself onto Othello and evil forms. Harold Bloom insists that the shock of rejection is what truly makes Iago. He becomes the evil presence that is Shakespeare’s own creation (Schapiro 486).
