A Comparison of the Length of Words Found in Magazines and Newspapers
I will be writing up a hypothesis comparing the length of words in
magazines and newspapers. I also have to design and carry out an
investigation to test my hypothesis. I will use both sources to see
which one uses more length of words. My results will be shown in
various formats i.e. bar charts, tally charts etc.
Investigating further
---------------------
I will be looking to see which of the two sources uses greater length
in words.
My hypothesis
-------------
My prediction is that the magazine will uses more lengthy wordings
then the newspaper..
Extension hypothesis
--------------------
I predict that the magazine will have more words in sentences than the
newspaper.
I can have various problems when researching the article to choose
this is due to the fact that the articles may differ from one another.
This usually happens due to the fact that the newspaper will contain
the most recent updated information as the magazine may not.
The newspaper I have used is called The Sun and the magazine I will be
using will be Shoot this is a football magazine. The articles are
therefore about football.
Collecting Results
I will be using basic counting of the length of the letters and
recording my findings in a tally chart format. I will be using in
average about 100 words.

customer violently shakes a cereal box and voices his anger with a light rainfall in the direction of the manager. The cashier, one of Pierrefonds’s well-known employees, Christyne Chartrand, stands at a distance and adjusts her glasses waiting for peace to be restored in this chaotic situation. As frustrating as these types of confrontations might be, Christyne perseveres through it all and continues on with her day.

I am currently reading a book called “WORD NERD” by Susin Nielsen. Ambrose is a twelve-year-old, he calls himself as a word nerd because he loves to play scrabble. He kept on moving from places to places with his overprotective mother, Irene. Until the last school he attended, he was in a near-death experience. There were bullies that bullied Ambrose that he can’t afford to buy a Nike shoe but instead he wore a shoe from a shoe brand called “Ikes”. Ambrose called the three bullies “The three Stooges”. The bullies knew that Ambrose had a peanut allergy, they decided to test if that fact is true or not. They sneakily slipped a piece of peanut into Ambrose’s lunch. Ambrose took a bite of his lunch, he fainted and he went to the hospital. The principal called “The Three Stooges” and Ambrose’s mom, Irene to have a discussion about Ambrose's visit to the hospital. The principal decided to give them the proper punishments to “The Three Stooges”. Irene knew that a normal school would not be proper for his learning environment, she decided to put him into home school.
In the short story “The Pedestrian” by Ray Bradbury he warns society about what the future will be like if we only watch tv and don’t exercise or go outside. Mr Leonard Mead was the only person the ever take a walk in his neighborhood when everyone else would be watching tv. He would say this to the houses as he walked by “Hello, in there, he whispered to every house on every side as he moved”(Bradbury 1). The author is showing us that Leonard is the only person who takes walks and the only person who doesn’t watch tv the entire day. He also shows us that he’s the only one who still cares about the beauty of nature. There is only one police car in the entire city because everyone just watches tv. Since the crime was
When someone doesn’t achieve their dreams , they feel insecure which makes them have hatred towards people that are happy. In chapter 3, Curley comes into the bunkhouse to look for his wife and because of this, the men in the bunkhouse start laughing and make fun of him. Lennie also starts laughing at the thought of his dream farm. Curley thought Lennie was laughing at him so he attacked him, “ Come on, ya big bastard. Get up on your feet. No big son-of-a-bitch is gonna laugh at me. I’ll show you who’s yella. Lennie looked helplessly at George, and then he got up and tried to retreat”(62). Curley is insecure about his small size because that ruined his dream of becoming a boxer. When he walks in the room to look for his wife, the men start laughing at him and he feels that they were making fun of his
The advent of the moveable type by Johan Gutenberg in 1455 marked the first step towards transforming Western civilization from a predominantly illiterate culture into one of universal literacy. The rapid spread of the printed word brought new ideas and philosophies that brought Europe into the modern world. Printing with moveable type served as the catalyst for the Renaissance, Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution. Simply put, it could be argued that typography is the most important inventions in Western Civilization’s history. (Meggs, 68)
Typography plays a huge role in not only its basic function of communication, but also as a visual design element that can easily make or break a work. Knowing this, I strive to be very strong typographically. An artist that I take typographical inspiration from is Michael Bierut, who happens to be terrific with typography.

Technology has made a significant impact on mass media. Therefore, Sunset Magazine has evolved from a print publication used to market to travelers to one that includes a digital version, as well as an application, and accessibility through various social media platforms.

It’s a question that keeps floating around in the public sphere: is print advertising and newspapers dead? The world is becoming more and more fast-paced and although, our want and need for the up-to-date news and breaking stories has not changed, the way in which we consume it has. This background report investigates and explains the downfall of the newspaper and the technological shift to online news. It will also discuss differing opinions of this relevant topic of the future of journalism from a range of reliable primary sources and investigative data.
Print media is on the decline, this can be seen in the U.S.newspaper industry as it is facing “its worst financial crisis since the Great Depression” (Kirchhoff). A few huge newspaper chains declared their bankruptcy, while many others have shut down (Kirchhoff). This has lead to many reporters and editors to be out of the job, lesser pay and even becoming web-only publications (Kirchhoff).
