Being A Better Health Role Model and Consumer
I feel it is very important to take care of yourself and a true responsibility to strive to be healthy. It is certainly something very personal, and that is what I really like about working towards this goal. There are not many short cuts and what you accomplish is usually measured in nothing more than hard work and proper habits. These habits are either natural to you or often times they are things that you have to acquire along the way. This is what this class did for me in many ways, it focused on important lifestyle techniques that I either already have or ones that I need to work on and try to incorporate into my everyday life.
One thing that I have really taken pride in is the idea that my family and friends do see me as a health role model. Since my freshmen year of college here at A&M, I have worked out very consistently, done cardiovascular activities, and have followed a fairly strict diet. What I really have enjoyed about this class is that it has showed me why things that I am doing are working and also shown me new things that I should work on. I would say that I have a better overall picture now of what it takes to be a health role model. I think now that I know more about an expanded range of categories like exercise, eating habits, and sleeping habits. Sleeping is one thing that I found very interesting because I probably do not get enough sleep overall and I see now how important that it is. This class has taught me how to improve and I like that. My exercise program and my diet are no where near perfect, and I never felt that they were . But knowledge helps you build on what you already have in order to improve it. I guess that I feel like I have been a health role model by example to those who know me well. Now I think that I have expanded myself because I can explain why I do certain things to people or why things work. A great example of this is with my diet. I always get questions on why I am eating certain foods and now I know how to answer because I understand why they are good for me, not just that they are because I heard or read that they are.
Nutrition, I have learned plays a big part in our life. To be honest I was clueless about how much nutrition affected our everyday lives. I love going to the gym working out, now that I know what should go into my diet I think I will see a lot more improvement. I occasionally follow the latest diet fads because I believed it would be better for my health, but in turn it really hurt more than it helped! This Diet Analysis project has been extremely useful course because I can personally relate to it and can use much of the information learned to my daily routines. The Diet Analysis project was a real eye opener because it let me see what exactly I was putting into my diet.

Being healthy in body and mind is the core of personal wellness. Getting to that point though is a process and it takes deliberate actions to make it happen. It requires choosing which behaviors will help and which ones won't. It requires making decisions every day that helps take a person to a better state of body and mind health.
Through out this course I have learned to understand why there is a need to educate my peers. Taking part in this can help increase awareness and knowledge about various health topics that relate to fellow students around me. The Health Fair helped me take part in advocating better health. From the taking part in the Health Fair I learned many things about how to educate my peers by breaking down barriers that I once had.
It will include my goals, my weaknesses as well as my strengths to the components of wellness as well as a plan for myself to manage all of these components. I also learned how to manage my stress through meditation and relaxation. I do value physical activity and to exercise regularly but I do not have enough time to exercise. After get off from school I have to run to another part time job in a different location. I am just too tired after work to get any exercise. Unfortunately, there is no quick way to good health. Having my own personal preferences and values help me see emotional and intellectual wellness in a better form. Fully allowing me to use the critical and psychological processes of seeing to evaluate the work helps as well. I feel the importance of health should be included in everyone’s daily lives. The importance of health to me is to live a long, prosperous life. Also, to avoid medical conditions that go along with an unhealthy lifestyle. In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, one of my goals to improve the life of those whom are around me maintaining a healthy weight. To do this, I must recommend reduce the amount of processed foods, junk foods, and carbonated beverages in my diet. Everyone has different values and preferences, so it makes it a challenge to some who don’t see what everyone else is seeing. I am determined to start early by setting up a pension plan or savings, which will help me prepare for my future retirement. In this I have already learned a lot about my future career in this semester .I have been a student. My interest profiler score report revealed that a social career is my best fit. People with social interests like helping and being of service to people. Medical Assistant is at the top of this list. The personality
"Eat Better, Live Better." I grew up in a healthy home, but, in college, I recognized the connection between what I ate and how I felt. My goal is to live by example and teach people tangible ways to eat healthily.
Everyone has a different definition of health. Everyone wants to tell each other to do better and to be healthy. What exactly does it mean to be healthy? My personal definition of health is a person that has a good outlook on what they've got. They are happy emotionally and mentally. They have five gold stars in every section of health and wellness. Everyone has their days off but these people never remain unhappy or upset. Health is not the absence of sickness, it is so much more. It doesn't have to do with just physical well-being it has to do with all different aspects of health. I do not see myself as a completely healthy person, I have many problems. I am nowhere near where I should be to be considered a healthy person especially in my mental state. I have a lot going on. I do want to improve and better myself as a grow as a person, and that is exactly what I'm going to do. This project has helped me start in that direction. I chose to break the habit of pushing the people I love and the people who love me away.
Being health conscious is arguably the most important thing a person can do for themselves during her lifetime. I was quite overweight as a child, so when I became old enough to realize the importance of a quality diet and exercise ritual, I strongly began to enforce them. Today I continue to monitor the amount of fatty, oily foods I consume, as well as maintain some level of physical activity. Until instructed in the course, Dynamics of Personal Health, I had never charted out my food consumption or physical activity. It was very interesting and beneficial to see a breakdown of my daily calorie intake and usage.
The essential element I learned in this course was Chapter seven; body composition. I like that chapter because before this program I had a hard time comprehending why my body was a certain way, I would always blame myself. In particular, I would ask myself why are my thighs and calves bigger and stronger. After reading that chapter, I now understand that not only does genetics play a significant factor in the way our bodies are but also
The thing that inspires me to live a healthy life is how I am going to feel at the end of the day. I want to advance my fitness journey so that I am able to better myself from the person I was yesterday. Chronic diseases and cancer are on the rise, and it is mostly due to how people treat their bodies, which is something that scares me and if I can do something to reduce my chances, then I will. Secondly, Instagram and Facebook are becoming more used for posting fitness journeys. This inspires me to want to start mine as it shows what motivation and determination can do to someone.
maintain good health physically, spiritually and psychologically. It is a science, such that one has to
I was never conscious about my health till high school. It was during high school that I developed a mental model. I learned the consequences of the food that I consume daily. I often ate fast foods and soon I started to gain weight. I gain this weight very quickly and my activity level went down drastically. My weight gain affected my confidence and that’s when I began to be aware of my health in a positive way. I stopped eating fast foods, I worked out everyday and soon I was back to my normal weight. This experience has taught me what it means to take care of your body. My mental model begin with my weight struggle and it turned into me having a healthy life style.
For the entire month of February, I challenged myself to go to the gym, to cut out all unhealthy foods, and to be a positive force to be reckoned with for thirty days. I went to the gym because I wished to live healthier, to become more in touch with myself, to see if I could not learn what the gym had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover I had not lived. I want to prove that I can do this, not for others, but for myself. Most people are uncertain about themselves and live hastily, but through dedication to live healthy, it has helped me live more for myself.
Having a healthy body can contribute to an individual’s overall well being and happiness. In the reading about virtue and health by Gary Ferngren, we learn about the meaning of ‘virtue’ in the ancient world which referred to the “quality or proficiency of men…” instead of in reference to moral behavior (Ferngren 176). The Greeks considered health to be essential to one’s virtue. Maintaining a healthy diet will help an individual perform better. Personally, I find that healthy habits are beneficial and uplifting for the soul. Those days when I eat right and am active, I am in high spirits, I feel good, and I am more motivated to achieve things. According to new US dietary guidelines, most Americans “don’t get enough health-enhancing and disease-preventing nutrients” which is a major problem that is not only physically detrimental, but also discouraging in terms of one’s mental health (Mayo Clinic Staff, “New dietary guidelines” 3). When I feel healthy on the inside, I have greater self-esteem and confidence and this is really important when it comes to how others view themselves or they potential. It also helps to maintain a positive outlook on
My personal health has been something I constantly think about. Whether it’s myself, my parents, my doctor, or others that bring it up, I’m reminded that I need to eat healthier or exercise more, etc. I know that I need to get better about what I eat and try to work more exercise into my daily routine, I just find it hard to find the motivation to go and actually accomplish what I know that I need to do. Especially in today’s society where we’re surrounded by a lot of non-healthy food, and getting access to healthy food is more expensive than the latter, it’s hard to make the better choice and choose the healthy option. I’m hoping now that I’m in college that I’m able to get better at taking care of myself than I have in the past.
