Leadership Qualities
The most meaningful and challenging experiences in my life have been through sports and the 4-H club. They have instilled the values of perseverance, confidence, and teamwork within me. I feel that my peers and others could learn valuable life lessons through participating in these organizations. They are not just clubs, but a guiding light for life. For example in sports I have had the opportunity to play on both losing and winning teams. This has given me a different perspective of looking at things. I now realize that even if you fail or lose that is no reason to give up, you still have to get right back up. Just realize your mistakes and errors. Then come back the next time, mentally and physically, ready to meet the challenge. To often in life youth and adults alike fail at something and automatically think that they cannot do it, and give up. Instead of just pushing themselves to run another lap, lift another set, study for another hour, or learn another theorem. Imagine a world if the early American settlers had given in to the British, if the North had given in to the South after the first loss of the civil war, or if Michael Jordan had given up after being cut from the team in high school. People just need to learn to have perseverance and believe in themselves. 4-H has been a series of stepping-stones for me. When I first started out at age four I was shy and afraid to do things that I had not done before, but now I have blossomed into a confident and outgoing young man. I no longer fear getting up in front of large groups and speaking because of the experiences I've had in public speaking events. In addition, 4-H has given me the chance to develop myself as a leader. Over the years I have held various leadership positions on the club, county, and district levels. Also, 4-H has given me the chance to go into the community and help people by leading youth in workshops, assisting the handicap and elderly, and also learn from what others have to teach. In both of these organizations I learned the need for teamwork. For example last year my football team went 0-11 and the main reason because of that was we were not a team.
Richard Cory poems are a traditional type of poetry found all throughout different time periods. The poems range from the original to song variations, all contributing their own perspectives on what Richard Cory symbolized, and each takes their own distinct form. Richard Cory poetry usual contains the distinct ending of Richard Cory taking his own life, but each poem adds its own variations to this repetitive theme. Throughout the poems, there are also many similar themes, which portray a consistent theme of the American Dream and how it transforms. Many symbolic issues that deal with this dream are related to wealth, which is the most prominent reoccurring theme in the two poems. Whereas Robinson's "Richard Cory" focuses on symbolic issues of wealth during an early time period, Paul Simon creates a contemporary "Richard Cory", showing the transformation of the American Dream coinciding with the passage of time.
The idea of approaching leadership from the standpoint of values has been echoed in several studies. O’Toole (1995) compared and contrasted contingency and situational approach to leadership with value-based leadership. He stated that all leadership styles eventually enforces the individuals to follow what their leader commands them to do rather than focusing on what is the will of the followers – this he called as disrespect for the individuals. It is important for the leader to understand, why people are resistant to change in reality and must make a personal commitment to overcome this resistance to changing environment or culture. Frost's poem addresses the tragic transitory nature of living things; from the moment of conception, we are ever-striding towards death. Frost offers no remedy for the universal illness of aging; no solution to the fact that the glory of youth lasts only a moment. He merely commits to writing a deliberation of what he understands to be a reality, however tragic. The affliction of dissatisfaction that Frost suffers from cannot be treated in any tangible way. Frost's response is to refuse to silently buckle to the seemingly sadistic ways of the world. He attacks the culprit of aging the only way one can attack the enigmatic forces of the universe, by naming it as the tragedy that it is.
While due to the reason that Authentic Leadership is still in the formative phase, the textbook by Northouse provides different definitions of this type of leadership depending on the viewpoints that make this leadership style very broad compared to other more defined leadership styles, I do find Authentic Leadership as a compelling theory. While it is a broad style, it is also very complete by having different approaches that fulfill the goal of explaining the different components of this style. What constitutes an effective leader? Perhaps the most notable is that through actions and thoughts an effective leader can inspire us. The concepts surrounding leadership remain debatable, since old theories are still considered and new ones continue to emerge. Regardless, leadership can be influenced by several factors relating to three main features based on traits, behavior and situation.
Since elementary school I have been in Celina's Boy Scout Troop 69. Starting as a Tiger cub and after many years eventually becoming a Boy Scout. 10 years later it is my last year of being a Boy Scout and I will be aging out in April. From building fires, tying knots, and learning first aid, scouting has taught me life skills that I will never forget. The greatest lesson of all though has to be grasping the skills of being a leader. The character and roles of a leader are very important for everyone to understand. But they can also be hard to grasp. I was 16 and decided to run for the position of SPL or Senior Patrol Leader. The SPL is in charge on all troop activities and is tasked with running things smoothly. The
"Stopping by Woods" The visible sign of the poet's preoccupation is the recurrent image of dark woods and trees. The world of the woods, a world offering perfect quiet and solitude, exists side by side with the realization that there is also another world, a world of people and social obligations. Both worlds have claims on the poet. He stops by woods on this "darkest evening of the year" to watch them "fill up with snow," and lingers so long that his "little horse" shakes his harness bells "to ask if there is some mistake." The poet is put in mind of the "promises" he has to keep, of the miles he still must travel. We are not told, however, that the call of social responsibility proves stronger than the attraction of the woods, which are "lovely" as well as "dark and deep"; the poet and his horse have not moved on at the poem's end. The dichotomy of the poet's obligations both to the woods and to a world of "promises"--the latter filtering like a barely heard echo through the almost hypnotic state induced by the woods and falling snow-is what gives this poem its singular interest.... The artfulness of "Stopping by Woods" consists in the way the two worlds are established and balanced. The poet is aware that the woods by which he is stopping belong to someone in the village; they are owned by the world of men. But at the same time they are his, the poet's woods, too, by virtue of what they mean to him in terms of emotion and private signification.
The poem is showing how many people are questioning the way Frost conducts himself and his happiness. Everything in Frost’s poem up until the last stanza is dark and depressing. An example of this is, “Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year.” (Frost, Lines 7 and 8). Frost is so consumed in the sadness, that its very dark around him. The last stanza is where Frost’s hopefulness is presented. The happiness is hinted towards, “The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.” (Frost, Lines 13 to 16). He has promised himself to always keep moving forward and focusing on the goodness that life has to offer. Frost knows that he isn’t quite there yet, but he will not give up. He emphasizes his perseverance by reaping himself twice when he says “And miles to go before I sleep,” (Frost, Line 15). He had a break through and knows that he cannot give up. He is taking the little bit of happiness he knows to transform his life completely too where he is happy with every aspect of it. He is taking the hope that he does have and running with it, not looking back at the despair he feels that surrounds
”Richard Cory” is told from an outsider’s point of view, so that the reader does not gain any more insight into Cory’s mind then the people on the pavement. This also adds to the surprise when Cory, seemingly happy, puts a bullet in his head. Richard Cory had no friends the people of the town never really saw him as a person, in fact they never saw him at all, the “people on the pavement looked at him”, never spoke to him, he was only something to admire. With God’s help the Biblical leaders Ezra and Nehemiah were able to fulfill their roles as leaders in the Jewish community. These men of God were chosen to be leaders to pray for the Israelites, relay Gods commands and encourage the people. As God’s leaders Ezra and Nehemiah carried out their respective duties even if fierce opposition awaited them.
An authentic leader is someone who over the years has developed a unique vision; a person who is respected, not only because they are expert in their field, but is also respected because of their humility. An authentic leader is someone who is open to hear ideas other than their own ideas; someone who fosters creativity in a team. An authentic leader is someone who also sets clear expectations for the vision they have and along the way challenges their employees to achieve more than they even though was possible, but will those accountable who are not on board with the vision and expectations set forth. Lastly, an authentic leader is someone who will face and have to make difficult decisions without compromising core values.
Being a good leader means being able to guide people or organizations such as businesses. Being a leader means you have leadership in you, it means you have a set of skills that not everyone can possess and you can apply them to the situation that you are in. Not everyone can be a leader because not everyone can step up and take over a situation or maybe they don’t care enough to do something about it. A leader has to possess the following and more qualities, honesty, communication skills, confidence, commitment, intuition, a positive attitude, and creativity.
What makes a leader extraordinary consists of these three main ideas? In this essay, you will find out the answer to this question. One, the idea of having good authority or being an inspiration to others. Second, a good leader needs to be a excellent strategist. The last idea is that a good leader needs perseverance to his colleagues and his citizens to never give up no matter what situation both good and bad.
Since August of 2015 I have had the privilege of working with an incredible leader in Andrea Williams, principal of Theresa Bunker Elementary School. She is the epitome of a well-rounded leader who exemplifies all of the qualities of a leader as described by House’s path-goal theory of leadership. Mrs. Williams works diligently each day to create a productive work environment. She is direct when she needs to be and is extremely respected by her faculty as a fair leader. As I have observed her over the past two years I have seen her leadership skills in action. I have been extremely impressed with her drive, passion, fairness, supportiveness and ability to create a positive climate and culture that makes work a positive
What makes a good leader? What makes a good leader is having the experience, knowledge, and skills to undertake the tasks and responsibilities.A leader would work toward their goals and succeed. There are many different characteristics to become a leader “Leadership is the art of leading others to deliberately create a result that wouldn’t have happened otherwise” (Search Inside Yourself). This is a great definition of being a leader and how they should rule. Some leaders can either have all or only some qualities to become a good leader.
