I miss you Grandpa
I remember spending summers in Kansas with Grandpa. I grew up in the suburbs - spending summers in Kansas was a bit of culture shock.
I remember waking up early and sitting around the kitchen table and listening while Grandpa and my mom sipped coffee and talked. The Hutch paper was always spread across the table, and inevitably, the conversation would turn to me.
"He probably fails all his classes, don't he?" Grandpa would ask. A slow smile would spread across his aging face as his gaze shifted from my mom to me.
"I don't think so, Grandpa," I'd respond, partially knowing he was joking, and partially wanting to prove myself. Then he'd lean back in his chair and look up at the ceiling.
"No, you're a good kid. You're a good kid." He'd say quietly. He'd comment on a story I'd written, the

I gotta entertain the little turds for a couple of weeks." That was Grandpa.
Later we'd end up at Ike's Windmill and Farm Supply. Grandpa would drink more coffee, smoke a Marlboro, and joke with Geno and Ike, and whoever happened to come through the door.
I remember trips to the Fish Gas Station, when Grandpa would treat my brother and I to a candy bar and a pop. I still remember sitting in the duck taped chairs in the old Fish station, listening to Grandpa trade stories with Charlie Fish and the few customers who passed through.
I remember trips to the Alden café, where I ordered Chicken strips and a Coke, and Grandpa would always take the leftovers home to the dog.
I remember driving the tractor in circles in the field, joyful entertainment for a city boy.
And I remember Grandpa teaching me to drive when I was 10, my white-knuckled hands gripping the wheel of the '79 Ford pickup like we were going to die. Meanwhile Grandpa was pulling at his faded blue jeans, gazing off into the distance.
... Kuwait to get to the southern part of Iraq. In this situation, Iraq was left cornered. Also the movement of some of Osama Bin Laden's beliefs had greatly affected the war. This brought forth many opposing forces against the United States.
Concerned about rumors of communist brainwashing of POWs during the Korean war, in April 1953 CIA Director Allen Dulles authorized the MKULTRA program, which would later become notorious for the unusual and sometimes inhumane tests that the CIA financed. Reviewing the experiments five years later, one secrecy-conscious CIA auditor wrote: “Precautions must be taken not only to protect operations from exposure to enemy forces but also to conceal these activities from the American public in general. The knowledge that the agency is engaging in unethical and illicit activities would have serious repercussions in political and diplomatic circles.”
During the 48 hours that Holden spent alone in New York, pity for him can be expected to develop quickly. He’s so desperate to communicate with someone-anyone-that he is reaching out to absolute strangers, oftentimes even considerably older than himself. When Holden was still at Pencey, he was feeling so dejected after fighting with Stradlater that he actually reached out to someone that he had painted a picture of as a poor hygienist, and as a social outcast, because surely ...
“Ugh, I was just about to say that,” my mother says disappointedly, knowing my dad has just gained a point in our never-ending competition.
Western Europe suffered numerous hardships through the ninth and tenth centuries and this was the ultimate reason they established a new political organization which was known as feudalism. By providing honor, protection, and a sense of control, this new social system revived peace and order in Western Europe after the fall of the Carolingian Empire. Feudalism was a necessary ingredient to yield stability in during these times of calamity.
The Persian Gulf War played an important role in the war on terror in the United States. The Persian Gulf War began when Saddam Hussein ordered the invasion on the neighbouring Kuwait in 1990, defying the United Nations Security Council. After the constant demands from the UNCS to withdraw from Kuwait, Hussein didn't leave. In addition to that United Nations Security Council feared that Saddam Hussein was going to target to be Saudi Arabia the largest oil producer and exporter. That prompted the United States to fight and other NATO allies such as many of the arab nation leading a anti Iraq coalition. The U.S-led a massive air offensive known as operation Desert Storm on the troops in Kuwait. The war ended in 1991 with the withdrawal of Iraq from kuwait over 8,000 to 100,000 Iraqi soldiers died in comparison to the coalition which lost about 300 soldiers.
At night I would sit on the porch with my grandfather, Drink milk with ice, eat sardine, and listen to his stories.
“Oh no, the evil resides in the darkest part of each soul. Evil tendrils slither around this very boat, because you can never escape yourself.” The utterance carved through the night air, leaving their hearts encircled with darkness, taunting the hunger inside.
He often speaks of past experiences he has had with girls and his confusion about them. He recalls, “Last year I made a rule that I was going to quit horsing around with girls that, deep down, gave me a pain in the ass. I broke it, though, the same week I made it-the same night as a matter of fact” (Salinger 63). Although his “rule” was not exactly an essential responsibility, Holden still displays his inability to resist outside temptations from what should be done. During his stay in the shady hotel in New York, Holden hires a prostitute to come to his room. However, when she arrives, Holden backs down and attempts to make conversation with her. When that fails, he sends her away, only to have her, and the elevator man, rob him of another five dollars. The whole incident reveals Holden’s immaturity emotionally and his irresponsibility in believing he was ready for the
I can remember my mom taking my twin brother Brett and I to the local library in my little hometown of Rimersburg,
Remember the time you were really thirsty in third grade, and went into the room after recess, only to remember that there was a party today, and there would be cupcakes and Kool-aid served in a matter of minutes? Remember saving a seat for your friend to sit on the bus, knowing that you were gonna share all the cool stuff you did yesterday? And how glad you were to be able to share this?
I don't have a lot of fantastic memories of childhood. There were no spectacular family adventures, no unique family projects that taught some sort of moral lesson, no out-of-the-ordinary holidays. We ate family meals together, but most of the time the children and adults lived in different worlds. The kids went to school, did homework, and played; the adults worked. I was lucky, though. When I wanted a little of both worlds, I could always turn to Grandpa.
“I know it is not polite of me to have gone through your things, but I did and I found a picture of my mom. A couple of days later I wanted to look at it again and this time there was more pictures and some postcards. The postcards are dates from recently and I don’t understand what’s going on. Whether you think so or not, I am old enough to know what my mom is doing that she couldn’t provide for me herself.” As I finished my speech they glanced at each other and then my grandpa finally spoke
My mom and dad were my playmates, since there weren’t any other children in the family my age. We did everything together, we swam and picnicked in the summers and played in the snow in the winter. They took me on long trips to different states where we visited all the tourist spots. I was a very busy little boy all the time, but one of my favorite things was to watch my movies and eat my goldfish crackers. As I grew I began to play video games, it is still one of my favorite things to do for relaxation. I also loved to go to my “Da and Ninnys” house. My great grandparents were so good to me, I loved them and they loved me. I got to spend as much time as I wanted with them, they were getting older in age and their health had begun to decline over the years. The same was true with my other great grandmother “memaw”, she was at our house a lot over the years and she doted on me all the time. I had it made back
The entire family got together and it was always a last minute thing but no matter what was going on we all decide we would go up to County Park Lake to have family time. There would be my grandma and my Aunts and Uncles and their kids when we pulled up to the parking lot. Under the shade trees the women would be sitting trying to stay cool and the older men of the family stand around a grill they would be sitting up the charcoal pyramid to lite to start grilling the food while the kids where at the tot lot playing the equipment you could hear the laughter of the kids playing . Also the mean talking about which is the best way to grill. The women would be laughing at the guys arguing over which way was bett...
