Casey Martin Trial
As a result of his physical disabilty, Casey Martin should be permitted to use a motorized golf cart on the PGA Tour. In addition, the prohibition on the use of golf carts should be removed.
It is quoted that Martin has "a heart three times too big and a leg two times too small" (Reilly). He suffers from Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrom, a degenerative disoder in whis right leg. His leg would literally snap if her were to have to walk an entire golf course: he needs a golf cart. He does not want to have an advantage; he simply wants a fair chance at winning. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act he deserves a fair chance. He is neither breaking tradition nor breakin any rules. After all, the majority of golf spectators are not at a game to watch the players walk or move from hole to hole, they are there to watch the players swing the club.
People with no heart and consideration, such as Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklausfeel that he should have to alk. Have they no feelings for others? They can see that Martin is barely able to walk and they are more concerned with "sticking to the rules." They are ingibitin an individual's process of earning a living. With such a disorder, the only aspect of his life that keeps him going is his dream to play golf. Every other player who is solely concerned with winning should be completely emabarrassed and ashamed. Martin is a man with a dream to play and he should be given the best opportunity to accomplish this feat.
If the opposition is going to argue that it is "unfair" and an "advantage" then why not simply remove the ban on golf carts all together? It would be a great deal easier to settle the controversy if every player were allowed to use a cart. Thus, Casey Martin would not be an alteration of the official rules, rather, the standar. Even still, history has shown that all major sports have in some way adjusted their policies for certain players with similar situations. The PGA Tour needs to offer more equal opportunity to all of its players. It is a disgrace that the Tour and some of its players awilling to take away the hopes of an unfortunate yet dedicated young man.
The defendant of the Casey Anthony Trial, is Casey Anthony. At the age of 19 she had given birth to her daughter Caylee Marie Anthony, the victim in this case. The one who first noticed the 2 year old daughter missing were her grandparents, Cindy and George Anthony. Casey was found a month after she left her parents house, with her boyfriend Tony Lazzaro. It was then that Casey had told the police about how her daughter was missing for about a month because the babysitter, Zenaida “Zanny the Nanny” Fernandez-Gonzalez had kidnapped her. These were the main people who started off the investigation on Casey Anthony.
Not guilty was the decision made by the jury during the George Zimmerman vs. Trayvon Martin trial. That verdict may have been the most controversial one of recent time. Many people were upset by the decision and felt that justice was not achieved for the young victim, Martin who was seventeen years old when he was killed. This incident seems to be a tragic example of stereotyping and racial profiling. It is also an example of how a verdict, based on the strict interpretation of the law can be the wrong verdict.
Contrary to what most think, an “Arnold Palmer” is not just a blend of tea and lemonade. One day, all might be able to swing a golf club like Arnold Palmer. Golf has been around since the thirteenth century and was introduced by the Scottish and Dutch. The main goal of golf is to reach the hole in the fewest amount of shots possible. One main difference between golf and many other sports is the lower the score the better. Regardless of the fact that the game was once banned, golf is now enjoyed by many (“The History of Golf”). Despite the images in common golf commercials, the golf swing is endlessly complicated.
...as fulfilled part of its duty by banning Rose for over 20 years; it has failed to acknowledge his on the field contributions. MLB has the duty of honoring the greatest players in baseball and those who are record setters; clearly Pete Rose fits into both of these categories. As the holder of multiple MLB career records as well as being considered one of the greatest players ever, Pete Rose has clearly made his mark on baseball. Thus, it is MLB’s duty to honor him for his accomplishments. MLB must now fulfill its second duty and reinstate Pete Rose so he can be acknowledge for his on the field play. With Kantian ethics, MLB’s sense of duty to the game requires the punishment of Rose, as well as the acknowledgement of him in the hall. With the time spent banned MLB has fulfilled one duty and must now allow Pete Rose in the hall to fulfill their duty to the game.
Most amateur golfers believe that impact on the ball is the only key factor for hitting straighter and farther by swinging harder and faster, forgetting important facets in basics of the swing. There are multiple parts of the swing that involve biomechanics however; some key points are set-up, backswing, downswing, follow-through, and ground reaction force (GFR). To focus primarily only on one point of the swing to fix all problems is an obscure way to view the s...
The sun beaming down, burning his skin. Sweat pours down his face like a bucket of water. At this moment he knew… his journey to hole eighteen had begun. Step after step and swing after swing he is getting closer and closer. His opponent is close behind him in points and hole 18 is approaching. Swinging and missing and hitting the ball in the wrong direction sets him back. After finally making it in hole 17, he realizes it is going to take a miracle to win this match. He sets his feet shoulder width apart, he looks down at the ball and centers his body. The man takes one deep breath in and on the exhale, he swings with maximum force. Quickly he finds the ball flying in the air, approaching the pin with a bright red flag. The ball hits the green and rolls toward the hole. Within a matter of seconds, the ball disappears. It had made it in the hole. It was
While playing professional baseball, Robinson was wildly given disadvantages. “He risked sanity and safety to give history the last full measure of his strength, nerve, and perseverance.” (Simon, 10). The physical brutalities thrown at Robinson would be enough for an average man to quite, giving into the pressures of what seemed like the whole world, but certainly not Jackie. “Some players were physically violent -- he once received a 7-inch gash in his leg from an opponent who spiked him with his cleats -- while others hurled verbal racial insults at him and his teammates.” (McBirney, 6). Even his teammates were attacked. However, this was after they attacked him themselves, “Initially shunned by fans and even his own teammates, the infielder focused, instead, on being the best in the game,” (Jackie Robinson - Mini Bio, 00:00:33 - 00:00:40). Standing strong, Jackie Robinson seemed almost unfazed by the attacks bolted towards him, even death threats. “Local police had culled the stadium’s mail to show him an assortment of explicit and persuasive death threats,” (Simon, 3). Outstanding poise in the midst of attacks and brutality, Jackie Robinson focused on his top two important things: baseball and equality for
In July of 2008, one of the biggest crime cases devastated the United States nation-wide. The death of Caylee Anthony, a two year old baby, became the most popular topic in a brief amount of time. Caylee’s mother, Casey Anthony, became the main suspect after the child supposedly was kidnapped and went missing. To this day, the Casey Anthony case shocks me because justice, in my opinion, wasn’t served. I feel as if the criminal conviction system became somewhat corrupted in this case. The entire nation, including the court system, knew that Casey Anthony was behind this criminal act, but yet she escaped all charges. I chose this case not only because it’s debatable, but also to help state the obvious, this case was handled the wrong way. Clearly the legal system was biased, which worked in Casey Anthony’s favor, freeing a murderer.
His period of trials and triumphs were significant to changing American perception for the Civil Rights revolution. By becoming the first African-American baseball player to play in the major leagues he brought down an old misconception that black athletes were inferior to white athletes. Successively his example would inspire those advocating for their civil rights, he lived out a message of nonviolence similar to the one Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lived out. Despite the constant prejudice he faced in his sport, he was able to keep himself composed and never retaliate. Instead of fighting hate with hate, Robinson was able to gain the respect of his white peers for his calmness and his courage. In ending segregation in baseball before any other institution in America, Jackie Robinson demonstrated to American society that African Americans were to be treated with respect and dignity. Robinson was never afraid to speak up against injustices, on one occasion when a service station attendant refused to allow Robinson to use the restroom, Robinson protested by refusing to fill the bus’s 50-gallon tanks at that gas station (cite to pg 47). His protests are a foreshadowing of civil rights movements such as the montgomery bus boycott. Robinson’s moral indignation with the injustices in his world would serve to inspire
In past, golf provided racism and only white people could have access to it. The article, “Race Relations And The Sports Of Golf: The African American Legacy”, by Marvin P. Dawkins demonstrates that Americans exploited and exclude the African American slaves to participate in white-controlled sports. African American formed their own organization in sports like basketball or baseball. The desegregation of race relations in sports starts to increase after World War 2 (Dawkins 327). It was not the case of golf. Firstly, the author examines the development of black golf in America. Golf was the last major sport to remove the black participation at professional levels. The first black professional golfer was John Shippen. He competed in many USGA tournaments. Also, he professional golf association exclude blacks for becoming members in 1916 (Dawkins 328). This restriction was not removed until 1961. Moreover, many of black clubs was fighting against discrimination in golf. In 1950’s, middle-class blacks create the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The black elite led in developing their organization to promote golf among African American. “Little progress had been made in terms of significant increase in the number of African American playing on PGA tour since Sifford gained full PGA membership status in 1964” (Dawkins 329). However, racism against backs ...

He went into deep detail of each course that is there, and he also described the different tournaments that have been hosted there. Golf is different than any other sport I’ve ever played. Golf challenges the body, mind, and soul. The average person doesn’t think a lot about golf, or thinks that it is not a challenging sport. Once they have played it is a different story. Golfing is not just taking a swing at the ball, it involves several tedious techniques and strategies such as; making sure you are aimed where you want the ball to go, your hands are in the right spot on your clubs, your knees are slightly bent, etc. In the book “The Mind at Work” a member of the UCLA Graduate school of education and Information Studies, Mike Rose, states “With time and practice, all this becomes routine, automatic.” We are asked to compare Rose’s work with intelligence that we as students have acquired through our lives thus far. Something that I have worked for and learned about since I was young is golf. I
Golf is the ultimate battle between man and nature. It is a beautiful sport in which dreams come true and hearts are broken. Man is challenged on every stroke by nature’s elements. Wind and rain are only a few of the conditions that affect this great game. Undulating hills, sand bunkers, thick rough, and even creeks and ponds come into play on most golf courses. These features are fierce at Augusta National Golf Course. Located along the fall line, the natural beauty of the region is the perfect complement to this championship golf course. Every spring when the flowers are in full bloom, Augusta plays host to The Masters Championship and is transformed into the Mecca of Golf.
PED in golf is a thing that i thought would happen rarely and would happens less than sports like baseball and football but apparently not. So I found some information on the issue and and apparently the PGA(professional golfers association) has a list of suspected PED takers. Now what i think is that PED shouldn’t be in golf because it’s not needed, this is also said for other sports. Now people can argue that it’s a simple sport and it won't change anything, but it will. I will now talk about this issue with the use of other sources, and what people have said.
This time of the year, I get calls from many golfers who want to qualify for the US Open. Many of the golfers who reach out to me are club pros, teaching pros, college coaches and assistant professionals. For the most part, they are talented players, but only a few have the physical and the mental skills to succeed at this level. Remember, one bad shot or one bad hole can sometimes kill a great round.
