Studying Law within a Broad Context
While the law may be too ungainly and inefficient a vehicle to directly change the world, it offers a unique opportunity to help influence people's interpretation of the world. I have always longed to be in a more intellectual environment where I might be allowed to see things from a different perspective. Having thoroughly enjoyed the academic study of Government and Politics and Economics where understanding political rhetoric and economic influences on government policies had to be analysed through abstract theories I am looking forward to studying law within a broad political, economical, historical and social context. Through obtaining a law degree, I will also be able to join many others in the struggle of our rights and dignity and strive within an imperfect political system toward the goal of greater equality within the law.
My work experience placements have left me wanting to do a lot more in the legal sphere. Whilst working at the BBC, the dominance of international and domestic issues in news items which were broadcast, highlighted the relevance of a thorough knowledge and understanding of social issues and hence the legal system. In addition my work experience in a non-governmental organisation (HCA) helped me to distinguish the different types of problems faced by those who were seeking help from the organisation, such as injustice and civil conflict. My work experience with a freelance solicitor has also been invaluable in gaining practical skills in the implementation of the existing law system. My work experiences have undoubtedly built upon the skills I have gained through my academic experiences.
Throughout my studies I have successfully undertaken individual research. I have prepared and presented seminars to my peer group and prioritised my workload to meet deadlines with work of a high standard.
Within my school community I have undertaken volunteer work. As a library assistant my duties included organising the book loan system and making sure younger students used their time efficiently. As a school prefect I held many responsibilities such as organising school events and monitoring younger students. I also participated in In-class support assistance where I assisted with year 11 German lessons.
Out of school I enjoy travelling to a variety of locations as this broadens my perspective of life. Meeting a wide range of people and learning about different cultures and traditions is I believe of paramount importance in comprehending the entire world.

This year I have served 74 hours for Learner Leadership Council, 27 hours for National Charity League and 17 hours for New Tech High at Coppell. One of my favorite places to volunteer is at Cornerstone Closet where homeless adults come to get needed items and take showers. We get to help them find clothes, and necessities and spend time talking with them. Another organization that I spend a great deal of time serving in the summertime is Metrocrest. We put together the food backpacks for families through the Backpack Summer Hunger Project. These organizations reach out to other organizations and charities and assist with acts of service. Even on campus I have been able to serve others. Being a NTH@C Tour Ambassador has been an important way for me to give back to my school. I enjoy showing others our learning environment and the importance of what happens each day. By attending clubs on campus is also another way that I feel is a pertinent way to serve alongside others and celebrate their passions. School events such as ‘The Day’ and other school wide bondings also exemplifies service participation. It is a powerful way to show our connection to those around us on a daily
Since second semester of sophomore year, I have the privilege of participating in my schools National Honor Society. Every month we have a meeting and, by the end of the year we are expected to have thirty hours of community service accomplished. Along with NHS, I attended a couple School Leadership meetings, but reluctantly had to stopped due to my schedule. Both junior and senior year i have participated in the club Business Professionals of America were I held parliamentarian junior year and secretary senior year.
I have also volunteer at Walnut Park Middle School for three years, and I tutor students who needs my help in the subject they are struggling on. I’m also in an organization/volunteer work which is call Community for Better Environment and we sue big factories/companies that harm our communities and we stop big project like the expansion of the 710 freeway which the governing border wanted to expand our freeway into eight lanes. Expanding the freeway right next to our city will increase air pollution, asthma, breathing problems and heart
An Experiment to Investigate the Effect of Light Intensity on the Rate of Photosynthesis. Introduction Photosynthetics take place in the chloroplasts of green plant cells. It can produce simple sugars using carbon dioxide and water causing the release of sugar and oxygen. The chemical equation of photosynthesis is: [ IMAGE ] 6CO 2 + 6H20 C 6 H12 O 6 + 6O2 It has been proven many times that plants need light to be able to photosynthesize, so you can say that without light the plant would neither photosynthesize nor survive.
Analysis of Film Posters Having studied film posters this term, it is apparent that certain forms and conventions are applied. In all, this assignment has helped me a lot by enforcing the need to research before making great decisions. One great decision in my life at this moment is trying to decide on a major and trying to reveal and find out what I really want to be. This assignment has helped me discover what it is like to get into a good law school, what the work load is like, what types of law there is to pursue a career in, and what the salary is. All these components will keep me grounded and stay true to what I originally wanted to pursue which is a career in the legal system of our country.
A predominant one are “legal advice clinics” set up by law schools which present an excellent opportunity to gain experience working on cases whilst also developing their key legal skills, supervised by an experienced practitioner. One example is the Northumbria Student Law Office, a successful clinical legal education scheme by Northumbria University [8], where students take part in a legal advice and representation scheme as part of academic development, covering a wide range of legal areas such as housing, family and employment [9]. Others include “Streetlaw”, where links are built with schools or community groups to assist students in researching certain areas of law, then prepare and deliver interactive workshops on them; volunteering with legal organisations (eg. Citizens Advice Bureau) to give advice or assist them in their services; work on cases involving potential miscarriages of justice (“Innocence Project”); and enhance advocacy skills through the Free Representation Unit (FRI), among others [10].
Perhaps one of the most difficult aspects of the practice of law is learning to be a lawyer. Virtually every new lawyer today is a graduate of law school, a much dreaded, but fulfilling journey to practicing law. Modern law schools differ greatly from their earlier counterpart, in that many more requirements and responsibilities exist. In colonial times, students pursuing a career in law would enter institutions for instruction of the law, and would automatically become qualified to practice law in the courts after a few years of study. Today, however, becoming a lawyer takes much more training, rigorous work and effort, and many years of studying in order to take a bar exam of which passage represents qualification. There is much more consideration concerning who is admitted, what kind of curriculums are taught, how exams are offered, what kinds affiliation exist, how much law schools differ from one another, and what it ultimately takes to be fully competent as a practicing attorney.
I take pride in and put effort into all my work, whether academic or not.
There is nothing quite like traveling, going someplace new and finding out more about the world and yourself. Anyone can become a traveler it just takes a little bit of faith and courage. Traveling across the world or even across the country is a learning experience. When you are a traveler you see how people live and how different cultures work. It is the best educational experience you could give yourself. You see how the world works in a way no one can teach you. Seeing different cultures and people help build the person you want to be. If you are a traveler the world influences you, because when traveling, you see the good and the bad, and you learn from the right and the wrong. I am very lucky that I am able to be a traveler and see this
