The Elephant Festival
We have all played Holi or atleast have witnessed the fun and
merrymaking that go with the festival. But have you ever enjoyed
playing Holi with the elephants. Well, this is a unique festival known
as the Elephant Festival and I shall tell you about that.
The Elephant Festival is a unique event held annually in Jaipur, the
capital of the north Indian state of Rajasthan. Groomed to perfection,
glittering in gold, row upon row of elephants catwalk before an
enthralled audience. The elephants move gracefully in procession, run
races, play the regal game of polo, and finally participate in the
spring festival of Holi. It is festival time for the elephants. This
festival is celebrated on the day of Holi, the Indian festival of
colors. In the year 2001, it was last celebrated on the 9th March
2001.
Elephant Festival - Celebrations
================================
There are deadly and fierce elephant fights in the Jaipur Chaugan or
polo field, the venue of the Elephant Festival. During Holi, the
Chaugan is brought alive with elephants, dancers, musicians, and
onlookers from the entire globe. The festival starts with an
impressive procession of the majestic animals lovingly painted and
tastefully attired with glittering ornaments and embroidered velvets.
The echoing sound of the bankiya (trumpet) fills the atmosphere. A
ceremonial procession is recreated with caparisoned elephants, lancers
on horses, chariots, camels, cannons, and palanquins. The large beast
is the center of attraction in the many races and beauty pageants.
Strangely, most of the participants are female elephants. The mahouts
(elephant keepers) take great care to decorate the elephants-painting
their trunks, foreheads, and feet with floral motifs and adorning them
from tusk to tail with interesting trinkets. The mahouts were employed
in the Phil Khana, the department of elephant in the royal
administration. They played an important role until the princely state
was incorporated into the Union and the department because redundant.
They, however, have continued their association with the elephants.
The game of polo forms the highlight of the festival.
In the heart of Miami, Florida, the Calle Ocho Festival is an event open to people of all ethnic backgrounds and age groups. This event dates back to the late seventies. The festival originated in 1977. It was organized by two men, Leslie Pantín Jr. and Willy Bermello, who wanted to start a project with the Miami Herald to bring the community closer together. They decided on a festival while scribbling on the back of a place mat at lunch one day at the Red Coach Inn during the summer of 1977. Pantín and Bermello's goal was to have a street party that would display the Latin-American lifestyle in the city of Miami for non-Spanish speakers. Today, this festival has grown into the largest Hispanic festival held in the United States. Hundreds of thousands of people attend the event for the dancing, eating, and getting to know everyone and everything that is part of Little Havana.
On the 13th to the 14th of May this year, the Kasseler Garten Kultur festival took place in the city of Kassel. It was a brand new festival to celebrate Spring in eight different parks across the city. Since the second day of the festival was on Mother’s Day in Germany, many people attended and enjoyed the plethora of activities for them to enjoy. This festival is one which is likely to continue next year and possibly for some years after, since therre was a large attendance. There are many ways in which this festival is typical of German culture, and also typical of the culture in the city of Kassel. These include
When carnival was created it was a day for the peasants to have freedom to do what they wanted to the kings and the hierarchy above them, but my question is why did the kings take it to heart? If what the Kings do to the peasants on a daily basis is not accepted when it is done to them on the day of carnival, then why do it at all?
Mile, this summer Chicago was embellished by a new landmark, or landmarks to be more exact. Nearly 300 cows have found a temporary home in the streets of downtown and its buildings. This extensive public art project, organized by the Chicago Public Art Program , commemorates the city’s industrial history, while bringing a sense of community and beauty to Chicago’s citizens and tourists. In this “parade”, every cow is full of meaning as well as artistic value. Although many might argue, I, to the contrary, would like to applaud the City of Chicago for the implementation of this great project.
There were many festivals in the Yup’ik culture but few of them we know today.
Culture is an important aspect to the society we live in today. With the economy so hard to live in, it’s making it harder for the individuals to meet their needs. There are many cultures that are around the world that is different in many ways. One way that many cultures come together is through the cultural events today. Cultural events are events pertaining to cultures, such as a feast or festivals. By attending cultural events, you experience firsthand the diverse offering of culture and artistic expression found in a community. The Essence Music Festival and the Mardi Gras are two of the festivals that many people attend for all over the world.
A Cultural Event is an event relating to a particular culture. These events are held within cultures such as clans or tribes. These Cultural Events are aimed to help bring together the community in ways that express the beliefs, customs, and ethics shared within the culture. The term Culture can be broken down into an array of categories: Language, Social Activities, Interaction, Spirituality, Thought, and Arts & Sciences. This paper will give an in depth look into two highly publicized Cultural Events: Mardi Gras and Carnival Rio De Janiero.
Scissors, Paper, Rock! For my first cultural event, I attended the University Performing Dancers rendition of “Scissors, Paper, Rock!”. This dance performance took place in University Hall here on campus. This performance is considered a cultural event because the game Rock, Paper, Scissors is an ancient game that many different cultures have claimed to invented.
Electronic Dance Music, also known as EDM, has increased in popularity over the past few years. The spike in popularity has helped create a bigger industry for EDM event planners. For example, the founder and CEO of Insomniac (a popular EDM event planning company), Pasquale Rotella is worth ten million dollars alone. In the 2014 Electric Daisy Carnival trailer, Rotella said, “Finally, I’ve felt like we’re getting somewhere,” in regards to the popularity and impact of these festivals. Because thousands upon thousands of people attend these festivals and the fact that industry has grown immensely over the past few years, this musicking experience is very significant. Experiencing electronic dance music at the festivals is nothing like listening to it at home.
'What were the functions of popular festivals, etc. in Early Modern Europe? And why did the authorities, civil and ecclesiastical seek to control or suppress them?'
Once the ringmaster steps into the ring and guides the animals into their positions the audience knows the circus is about to start. A circus is a traveling group of acrobats, trained animals, and clowns that perform in a tent for money. In the past, the circus began with only a few traveling entertainers that moved from one village to the next singing songs and bringing stories to life. Now circuses have both human and animal performers, they travel from town to town in different states and perform a variety of tricks and stunts. In spite of circuses being fun to attend, the animals are constantly being abused, through isolation, psychological torment, and physical torture.
The Olympian games were founded in 776 BC. The Greek people used athletic victory as an outlet for their aggression. In a country filled with civil war this was a way to bind the nation together.
If someone were to ask people ever wanted to see almost every artist from any genre of music in one place? Of course, anyone would say yes, because most people haven't been to an event like the huge one that happens in California each year. This is an event many people save up all year to attend just maybe once in their life time. The Coachella Music and Arts Festival, it is one of the most talked about festivals that this generation knows about. It is like a whole new world for most people each time they attend.
