Abortion as defined in medical terms as 'premature expulsion of the
foetus from the womb' in modern society is still one of the most
controversial and talked about subjects in Christian homes. Should a
woman have the right to choose what happens when she finds herself in
a situation faced with an unwanted pregnancy? An unwanted pregnancy
can happen given different circumstances. A woman who has suffered
incest or rape may not want to be constantly reminded of the violent
act performed against her, but is that really a strong enough argument
to end a life? If the medical help is sought in time, the woman has
the right to immediate intervention to remove the semen and prevent
fertilisation. This is morally right according to the Catholic Church
views on abortion (1994) but in some cases of incest the victim is too
frightened or ashamed to tell anyone what has happened, by which stage
conception has already started. In some cultures people believe that
in modern society, if a woman is consenting to sex with a long-term
partner or other, without using contraceptives, then pregnancy in many
cases will be the consequences. How then can the woman abort or end
the life inside her? Family planning clinics are now worldwide and are
openly available. Women should have the right to choose when they
become mothers. In many religions family planning is not acceptable so
what is the woman to do in this situation? If she is not physically or
mentally mature to become a mother then who does have the right to
tell her otherwise?
Years ago abortions were carried out in what was commonly known as
'back street clinics'. The methods used in these clinics were crude,
unhygienic and extremely dangerous for the woman. In years to follow,
the abortion, although still controversial and wrong in parts of
society, became widely available to women who found themselves faced
with the situation of unwanted pregnancies. With modern clinics and
medical staff who knew what they were doing, the number of back street
Anderson brings up point after point to support his opinion on pro-choice abortion. Anderson writes about how the government should have no say in a woman’s decision to abort even if she is past the first trimester: “Pregnancy and motherhood affect every aspect of a woman’s life - public and private, emotional and physical - and Roe v. Wade confirmed that it was an invasion of privacy for the government to step in and make reproductive decisions on a woman’s behalf” (Anderson, 2015). Anderson explains how he believes a woman who decides to have an abortion does it because it will negatively affect their life in a way that will be changed forever. The article goes on to explain some reasons why women choose to have abortions. To back up his
My name is Brittney Elbl. I’m 21 years old, attended the University of Iowa with a major in Journalism and Mass Communications, and now work as a full time journalist at TIME magazine. As a magazine focused on current events, we were very interested when abortion debates arose in conjunction with the 2014 election cycle. Abortion debates have been circulating since the dawn of its legality in the early 1900’s and still continue today. With this said, the recent election is spurring a vast increase in these debates claiming, “As a society, we cannot be afraid to discuss social and moral issues” (Raymond). As you can probably guess, there are very conflicting opinions on this topic, ranging from the Pro-Life advocates, demanding that abortion is murder and focused on the abolition of abortion all together, to the Pro-Choice advocates, who believe women should be allowed to make their own choice in what they do with their body. In each group’s opinion, there is not much of a grey area between the two conflicting ideas, which leaves little room for compromise. This kind of extreme opin...
Abortion is a complex social and moral issue that remains unresolved in today’s society. It is continuously changing and renewing under new influences presented by different individuals as well as the global civilization as a whole. Arguments from both sides are often extremely dogmatic and defensive, presenting merely from one perspective. However, the common argument revolves closely on what the true definition of a person or a human being is and its relations to whether a fetus is a human being or not from the moment of conception. This is examined from a liberal point of view by Thomson (Thomson, 1971, p. 47-66), who explains that abortion can be justified in a wide range of cases and challenges the notion that it is morally impermissible. Anti-abortionists have taken an opposite stance and claimed that Thomson’s argument is exaggerated and patently false. In this paper, I will briefly examine Thomson’s perception of abortion and explain how the analogies demonstrated in her paper assist in supporting her view on legal abortion as well as why I agree with Thomson on some parts of her argumentation.
In our society and culture, we are presented with many ethical controversies, all of which seem impossible to resolve. One of the most considerable debates in today's world is abortion. A person's value system and religious belief often influence their view on this complex situation. Since there are many strong arguments made for abortion and many against it, it becomes almost impossible to resolve. Among the many disagreements, some of the most common dealt with issues such as the right to live which makes abortion morally same as murder, along with a women having reproductive rights and the different circumstances that justify having an abortion such as abortion due to rape. In this paper we will briefly explore the pros and cons of these issues.
Abortion has always been a hard decision for a women to have to make. Mainly because people have always viewed abortion as either morally wrong or not wrong at all. Everyone has different thoughts and concerns when it comes to abortion. There are a numerous amount of reasons why a women has to choose abortion, whether it be rape, the feeling of being unprepared, not ready age wise or their life is in danger, whatever the case may be it should be their choice.
Each day throughout our world, medical professionals suction thousands of babies from their mothers’ wombs through a procedure called abortion. The law protects and provides consent to both the mother and the medical professionals for these procedures. However, the babies seemingly have no right to protection or life themselves because of the argument regarding when a fetus is determined be human and have life. Pro-life author, Sarah Terzo, in a LifeSiteNews.com article, relays the following testimony supporting this from a medical student upon witnessing his first abortion, “Rejected by their mothers and regarded as medical waste by their killers, society allows these babies to die silently, with no recognition or acknowledgment of their humanity” (Terzo).
Less than 1% of all abortions are performed to save the life of the mother, and there have been millions of abortions in the United States alone since they became legal. Abortions are when the fetus is removed from the uterus before it has reached the stage of viability. There are a lot of ways that an abortion procedure can be done. During your first trimester which is up to twelve weeks of your pregnancy they usually do the endometrial aspiration, suction, or curettage to remove the baby from the uterus. In the endometrial aspiration procedure a thin flexible tube is inserted into the woman’s cervical canal (the neck of the womb) and then sucks out the lining of the uterus (the endometrium) with an electric pump. There is another procedure called dilatation and evacuation (also called suction curettage, or vacuum curettage), the cervical canal is enlarged by metal dilators while the patient is under anesthesia, after that a rigid suction tube is inserted into the uterus remove the fetus. Both the evacuation and curettage can be used up to about the 16th week of pregnancy (Britannica, 2013). But after those 16 weeks have passed the woman will have to be injected with the saline solution if there is enough fluid in the amniotic sac surrounding the baby. Saline solution is used to trigger uterine contractions. If that doesn’t work than other methods may be used to induce contractions, but these substances may cause severe side effects. After the toxic mixture is injected, the baby swallows the salt solution and is poisoned and his skin burned. After suffering for 1 to 1 and a half hours, the baby’s heartbeat stops. The effect of the salt solution burns the lungs and strips away the outer layer of the baby’s skin (Life, 2012). This ...
How would you feel if someone decided that you should never get a chance at life? That
In this work we cover a debatable topic in our society and no matter how many diverse and opponent opinions are, abortion keeps being the interruption for pregnancy, it can be by choice or not. Abortion is seen as a human right just as the public health.
Abortion is the untimely and early ending of pregnancy. Thirespondedss can be carried out by the will of an individual or can occur on its own because of any abnormality or disease. Abortion ending due to any abnormal condition is referred as ‘spontaneous abortion or miscarriage.' Abortion, as a term, is specifically used for the ending process of pregnancy by the will of the mother. This process can be carried out in a variety of ways depending upon the gestation period, the condition of the fetus inside and preference of involved mother.
Abortion is a serious topic that people have been debating about for years. Everywhere you turn the topic of abortion presents itself, on TV, in the newspapers, in books and magazines. It already has, and will continue to cause, controversy for years to come. As long as abortion remains legal, pro-life advocates will continue to protest what they believe to be these horrible acts of murder.
You don't want to live miserably, so it cannot hurt to try and change it. For instance, there is an abundance of controversy surrounding abortions, but it can save someone's life; you should stand up for what you believe any any risk.
The right to life is a fundamental right given to all Americans. Federal funding should not be used to destroy life. The right to life is found in the U.S. Declaration of Independence and reads as follow;
What a pity it is to live in a world where people can just throw away their newborn infants. This is an alarming epidemic in America where women are no longer choosing to have babies instead, they are opting to get rid of them on the tax payers dime. These young women are not only refusing to take responsibility for their action, they are purposefully getting pregnant to swindle extra money from the federal government to pay for their horrid abortions. The only solution that would be effective and put an end to this deplorable act is to ban abortions altogether no matter the cause; to prove that America means business why not impose an abstinence law that all women must obey.
There are a lot of issues around the world debating on whether abortion is right or wrong. Many are pro-life and think abortion is murder. Although, some who are pro-choice may argue that a fetus is not a human yet so having an abortion is not considered murder. I would have to disagree. According to most doctors, “[They] will start counting from the gestation period when the mother stops having her menses. The heart forms soon after fertilization” (newheathguide.org). Since a living human has to have a heart to function then an unborn child should be considered a living human being. But, the heart does not start beating until five weeks into the pregnancy? You might say. The average female
