Romeo and Juliet is a historical tragedy written by William Shakespeare. In the play the two leading characters Romeo and Juliet fall in love after meeting at Juliet's balcony and pronounce there love for each other, and then agree to be wed the next day. But cannot show their true feelings or tell anyone of the marriage as their families are at war with each other. Just after they get married Romeo gets into a fight and kills Tybalt and as a result of this he is banished from Verona. Juliet finds a way for them to be together but the news doesn't get to Romeo as the messenger wasn't allowed into the city and he believes that Juliet is dead. He then goes to Juliet's tomb and kills himself upon seeing Juliet dead. Just as this happens Juliet starts to wake up, she realises what has happened and kills herself too. As dawn breaks, everyone arrives at the tomb to grieve, upon seeing Romeo there too the prince is told and he inquires as to what has happened, the friar comes forward and explains the tragic tale and it brings an end to the feud between the two families. During act two scene two Romeo and Juliet use a range of imagery to communicate their feelings.

Showing that Juliet feels that Romeo's name means nothing to her and if he was called anything else then he would still be the same person and she would still feel the same way about him. It also shows that she feels that she is cursed because she is a Capulet and he is a Montague. It also shows that Juliet is unprejudiced and fair. Another example of natural imagery is "This bud of love, by summers ripening, may prove a beauteous flower when we next meet."
Juliet means that she thinks that they should wait on there relationship for a while so that their love can blossom into a beautiful flower that will last for eternity, she is also saying that she wants them to wait a while so that it isn't a rushed relationship that will fail as soon as they hit a hard time.

In Romeo and Juliet, it is clear that Shakespeare commonly embodies metaphors in his play to elaborate on Romeo’s love for Juliet. The use of metaphors invites the audience to develop a further understanding of the object comparing values of love. An example of a metaphor can be noticed in the balcony scene when Romeo claims that “Juliet is the sun”. When we analyse this quote we notice that Shakespeare is displaying the respect that Romeo offers to Juliet. The purpose of using this particular metaphor is to show that Juliet’s appearance will always be accepted in Romeo’s heart. When the sun is mentioned it is referred as Juliet being high in the sky; overlooking and invalidating all those beneath her control. This metaphor is referring to Juliet as being truly out of this world, Romeo’s world; conveying ideas of excitement and affection. Since life is too complex to be classified into a single category, then why should a play imitating life be confined to a single genre? In the classic tale of two "star cross'd lovers", Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare dabbles with both the comic and tragic genres (Prologue, Line 6). The play starts in the traditional comic form but undergoes a transformation in Act III, Scene I. In this scene, the death of Mercutio, and consequential death of Tybalt, transform the play into a tragedy. With each death comes a change that alters the course of the rest of the play. Mercutio's death results in an inversion of the play's genre. Traditional comic elements are lifted only to be replaced by tragedy. The death of Tybalt constitutes another radical change in the play - this time in the plot. Before Tybalt's death, the ongoing feud between the Montagues and Capulets was nothing more than idle threats. The only character to take the quarrel beyond mere words was Tybalt. Ironically, his murder intensifies the feud and takes it to a whole new level. Also, Romeo's role in this scene propels the new genre of tragedy as he takes up the role of the tragic hero. This new role dooms both him and Juliet. Thus, the shifting genres in this scene set the course for the rest of the play.
What makes scene 4.4 in Romeo and Juliet unique is the way in which the dynamic between the public and the characters is handled. The people in the audience are put in a situation where they know more than the characters on the stage. Apart from the spectators the only other person who knows that Juliet is not actually dead, but just appears to be, is Friar Laurence. Shakespeare is well aware of the possibilities that this situation presents him with and uses them to enhance the scene and give it a second layer of meaning. The significance of Juliet’s change in character is to show her accelerated transformation from a young girl into a mature woman. In the beginning of the play Juliet is unable to make her own decisions. However after her meeting with Romeo, Juliet becomes more assertive and defends her love for Romeo.
