In 1991 President George Bush sent U.S. troops to Kuwait to force out Iraqi President
Saddam Hussein and his troops who were trying to take over Kuwait, thus starting the Persian
Gulf War. This war started in 1991 and this war also ended in 1991 and an agreement was
made between George Bush and Saddam Hussein. The agreement was that Iraq must destroy
any chemical and biological weapons they had. This peace treaty also entailed that United
Nations inspectors would search Iraq on a regular basis to make sure these weapons were
being destroyed. An embargo also kept Iraq from selling oil or buying weapons on international
markets until the United Nations confirmed that Iraq was complying with the peace treaty.
Problems with Iraq still continued after the Persian Gulf War through Bush's Presidency
and into Bill Clintons. It was thought that Iraq was hiding weapons and blocking inspectors
from certain areas containing these weapons.(www.nationalpriorities.org) Saddam Hussein claimed he was
following all the rules and demanded that the embargo be taken away but it was not this easy. Clinton
almost started the second war with Iraq but an outrage by the Grassroots peace group put an end to it.
(www.nonviolence.org)Clinton's presidency lasted two terms and then George W. Bush, George Bush's son,
took over.
Only after a short time into George W. Bush's presidency the United States was
attacked by Afghani terrorists. The World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon were
crashed into by hijacked commercial airplanes. This set the United States in an uproar. Bush
reacted to this by starting a war against terrorism. Well that's how it started, but it has turned
into another war against Iraq and thousands of American military troops have been deployed
overseas to fight a battle with no real known cause.(www.nationalpriorities.org) Thus bringing up the point
of why war is unnecessary at this time.
There is no tie between Saddam Hussein and the terrorist attacks on America on
September 11, 2001.(www.nationalpriorities.org) Then why are we focusing our attention on Iraq and not so
much on Afghanistan anymore? George W. Bush believes Saddam Hussein has chemical and biological
weapons that are a threat to the United States.(www.nationalpriorities.org) However, there are other
countries who have more leathal weapons such as the United States, the Ukraine, Pakistan, Russia, China,
Iraq and Saddam Hussein were trying to take over Kuwait, which was a major oil supplier to the world. If Iraq got Kuwait than Saudi Arabia would be right next to them. So then Iraq would pose an Immediate threat to take over Saudi Arabia, which was also a major oil supplier.
September 11, 2001 was a day that Americans and the world for that matter will not soon forget. When two planes went into the twin towers of the World Trade Center and two others went into the Pentagon and a small town in Pennsylvania, the world was rocked. Everyone in the United States felt very vulnerable and unsafe from attacks that might follow. As a result, confidence in the CIA, FBI, and the airlines were shaken. People were scared to fly after what had happened.
The Persian Gulf War started on 17 January 1991 in response to Iraq’s invasion and annexation
Even though the invasion seemed like it succeeded, internal conflicts in the troubled regions led to the Iraq War that began in 2003, also known as the second Gulf War.
... Kuwait to get to the southern part of Iraq. In this situation, Iraq was left cornered. Also the movement of some of Osama Bin Laden's beliefs had greatly affected the war. This brought forth many opposing forces against the United States.
...lf War the Iraqis were a little ticked off due to their losses against the american soldiers they decided that they were not going to quit their war with us there. This war may have been one of the best military victories in military history but then again it also started up another war that would end up way worse than this one. Leading to one of the most brutal Iraq wars that the United States had which then later led up to the Afghan war. Desert Storm pretty much started a domino effect which the average civilian could look at and say that Desert Storm was bad or they could also say that it was good. Not only causing another war it also caused another disease. This disease which affects the war veterans from the Gulf War and Desert Storm. Leaving out the brutality of the Op it was a great success for the military so it can be marked down in the books of the good.
The Gulf war was a conflict that took place from 2 August 1990 to 28 February 1991. The reason for the United States involvement in this conflict was to liberate Kuwait from the invasion of Iraq. (Henry) SHORAD had a large role to play in this event through the protection against Iraq’s air breathing and munitions threats.
They were to America’s support of Israel. Some of the terrorist lived the united state for more than a year . Some terrorist took flight lessons American commercial flight schools. Some also slipped into the the country before the attack 9/11. 19 terrorists smuggled box-cutters and knives through security .
On September 11, 2001, four planes were hijacked by Iraqi’s, and sent to destroy government buildings. Two planes hit the World Trade
The Persian Gulf War played an important role in the war on terror in the United States. The Persian Gulf War began when Saddam Hussein ordered the invasion on the neighbouring Kuwait in 1990, defying the United Nations Security Council. After the constant demands from the UNCS to withdraw from Kuwait, Hussein didn't leave. In addition to that United Nations Security Council feared that Saddam Hussein was going to target to be Saudi Arabia the largest oil producer and exporter. That prompted the United States to fight and other NATO allies such as many of the arab nation leading a anti Iraq coalition. The U.S-led a massive air offensive known as operation Desert Storm on the troops in Kuwait. The war ended in 1991 with the withdrawal of Iraq from kuwait over 8,000 to 100,000 Iraqi soldiers died in comparison to the coalition which lost about 300 soldiers.
George Bush was the president during Operation Desert Storm. When President Bush found out about the invasion of Kuwait, he gave a warning to Saddam Hussein, the dictator of Iraq, stating that by January 15, 1991 for all Iraq forces to be out of Kuwait (Elise C. Hill, 196). Saddam Hussein ignored the president’s order. President Bush replied “this will not stand!” It then began January 17, 1991 at 3AM when the Iraqi’s fired missiles at Israel (u-s-history.com). Saddam Hussein declares “The great’s
Saddam Hussein was the ruthless dictator of Iraq from 1979 until 2003. He ruled Iraq with a brutal hand. He used fear and terror to stay in power over the Iraqi people. Saddam Hussein invaded neighboring Iran in 1980 and carried on a war for seven years and 11 months, making it the longest conventional war in the 20th Century. The war ended in a stalemate with approximately 500,000 Iraqis and 400,000 Iranians dead. Both sides, major oil producers, suffered economic losses of half-a-trillion dollars.
During May of 1990 a war loomed in the Middle East when Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein declared that Kuwait’s overproduction of oil was “economic warfare”. Hussein accused Kuwait of stealing from an Iraq oil field, and threatened military action. On August 2nd Hussein made good of his promise, and 100,000 Iraqi troops invaded, initiating the Gulf War. The United States’s involvement came only five days after the Iraqi invasion, with Operation Desert Shield. Following calls for help from Arab powers to protect oil-rich Kuwait, the United States sent troops into Saudi Arabia to help protect the small country from Hussien.
September 11th 2001. This tragedy will be one that lives in the hearts of many Americans for years to come. On this tragic day some of the most iconic structures in the American nation were deliberately destroyed by a Taliban group most commonly known as Al- Qaeda. The conductor of this group was the infamous Osama bin Laden, and his reasonings for the vile attack on our nation, was to drive western cultures out of the Muslim world.
The United States felt that the actions of Iraq should not go without consequences and needed to be punished for the aggression they put towards Kuwait. Hussein defined the UN's wishes and the Persian Gulf War has started with massive air attacks known as Operation Desert Storm. A large group of allied ground forces also known as Operation Desert Sabre. The operation started out with many troops heading into Kuwait and Southern Iraq coming for the northeastern side of Saudi Arabia. Iraqi troops were near termination and collapse when Bush ordered the stop of all fighting on Feb 28 which ended the Gulf War. The peace terms Saddam Hussein agreed to are that Iraq would get rid of all the weapons of mass destruction and they would accept that
