There are always unmarked paths or marked paths that you can choose to make or follow.

When starting a community service project, there are always directions and guidelines that will be beneficial to you. The most important thing to remember is your dedication makes the project happen. If you do not stick to your project and make an effort to get it done, it may fall apart. Be sure that your project is one that can be an ongoing effort. This is not a one time deal. Your project must be helpful to the community in some shape or form. If you would like, you can also involve the public in it. For example, if you are going to build things or do a bingo night, you would most likely need more people than yourself each time. If you are collecting money or supplies, then you would just need donations and maybe not as much public involvement for performing the task.

Most community service projects are always going to need money or a sponsor to get the word out. A sponsor can be a friend, your family, a community club, a school club, or a business. Sponsors will help get the word out. They can pay for things such as fliers to mail to the community or posters. Any supplies needed such as bingo cards or food can be purchased by a sponsor. A sponsor is also good for a designated donation drop-off.

If a sponsor is not suitable for your project, you may want to look into fundraising. The same reasons for a sponsor apply to the reasons for a fundraiser. It is like a "do it yourself sponsor." Some ideas can be the simple car wash, bake sale, or garage sale. More involved fundraisers could be competitions between groups to see who can collect the most money or supplies for the particular project. You or your group could come up with a fundraiser that is unique. For example, your school club may sell stadium blankets with the school logo on them - something that no other clubs would be doing. At the same time, you could be putting on a show that people would pay money or donate supplies in order to see. Fundraising is a different subject which could be another process.

Most likely, you will be dealing with an organization for your project. Once you have identified which organization you would like to work with, you will need to set up all the details of your project with them. Be sure to set up a meeting with the person who is head over the organization (this also needs to be done with your sponsor). During the meeting, you need to state the dates and times that your project will be carried out. The questions to be answered are: How often will you perform your project, during what day(s) of the week will you execute the project, when will the project be completed, and when will delivery be?

At the meeting, not only time should be discussed. Discussion of how the delivery will happen needs to be presented (if delivery is required) and how will you communicate with the organization on how things are going. Some options are calling before the project begins and when it ends. E-mails and visits are also other options. You may want to tour the organization and visit before you begin your project for that organization to make sure everything goes well. Other things to think about are: Is there any requirements of the organization that you need to fulfill in order to complete the project correctly? Some organizations required you to be immunized and interviewed so that they can make sure you are secure and healthy before you come in contact with certain people. Some places may also have papers and a security policy you will need to be aware of.

Once your first project is completed, everything will set in place and seem much easier. Be sure to continue this project and keep all details in order. Loss of interest in the project can cause failure. You need to be very dedicated and keep up with community needs and changes so that your project can be up to date. You are now ready to begin your own community service project! Go get started!
