Loyalty and nobility are supposedly infallible characteristics to most people. Nevertheless, the honorable influence of others and venomous influence of greed is a common threat, shattering bonds between others. The good of others and greed tends to blind a person, weakening the connection between people, killing off trust, nobility, and shared bonds. In George Orwell's 1984, love, friendship, and loyalty are crushed by the hands of an oppressive government and trust is scarce. A totalitarian government is threatened and helped by individuals, however, one thing is common, the obligation to love of the authority, Big Brother. In William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, friendship and patriotism are crossed, as well as vengeance and power where Rome is betrayed and lacerated by the Conspiracy. The outcome of Caesar's assassination is caused by his close friends and companions becoming twisted into traitors vanquishing the bonds made. Both works deeply show the powerful influences of love, the good of others, loyalty, and patriotism recognizing the supposed strength of bonds that are eventually stripped in each work. In both George Orwell’s 1984 and William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, betrayal is an operation constantly acted upon; an action that leads characters to demise or victory.

Betrayal in relationships is a topic shown in 1984 and Julius Caesar. In Julius Caesar, Brutus is a character who shows patriotism for Rome and is brought into the Conspiracy to kill Caesar by the deceitful Cassius. Brutus then sees Caesar as a potential tyrant and follows through with the plan. By this action, he betrays Caesar for the sake of Rome and its people.
